Brandon Sanderson is my husband’s favorite author! The Lemoncello prequel is really good even better than the original (very first game). I’d love to see more about how you schedule and use Partnership Writing with your tips etc thanks!

It’s reassuring to me when you mentioned you slowed the Abeka K5 LA down with your twins. I have done the same for my little guy. The readers were pushing him over the edge and there was a lot of overwhelm with the number of page requirements to read for that lesson. So I pulled back on the readers and kept going with the phonics lessons and he’s MUCH happier and no more tears! I’m hope your health and your husband’s keeps getting better and better! Thank you for your channel. It has been so helpful!

Thank you! We also move the reader to the afternoon - I don't do an AM and PM reading ... it's just too much! I treat the phonics lesson as AM reading and read from the reader in the afternoon!

We love Anna Hibiscus too! I have identical twin girls, so we really enjoyed seeing Double’s and Trouble’s antics. Oh my goodness - I had to add this. I totally agree about the twins comparing and competing. I haven’t even started formal lessons for the twins, but I notice the competition SO MUCH. 🙈 I’ve been thinking through how I want to teach them this year, and have already decided on separate lessons. 🙏🏾✨😅

So sorry for the rough time with health issues--that's very overwhelming when all the needs of parenting and family life continue in the midst of sickness. I tend to lean toward doing a lot more science, not so much history, with little ones. I find that nature science is fairly easy and relatable and interesting...while it requires a bit more maturity to begin really comprehending history. That's why I purposely skipped history completely for this Kindergarten year, and we're going to start very gently in 1st grade, just beginning to learn some basics.

I love that! I have really learned to follow the lead of my kinders ... they usually make it more than clear what they want to learn about :)

Oh Angie, my heart is with you. I am just dragging myself across that finish line right now. Praying for you guys and a smooth end of the year. Your perspective is great though! Thanks for sharing with us. My son and I have been reading Alcatraz and the Evil Librarians too! It is funny and perfect for a kid this age. Glad your son is soaring in his reading. You can have a your own little family bookclub someday. Love it.

My kids are pretty sensitive, and Mary on Horseback bothered them a bit. Since you have just gone through some major medical stuff, I would recommend pre-reading it. Death is a theme, and if I remember correctly, several children have parents or siblings die, and the text is pretty blunt about it. I personally loved the book and found it very inspirational. I’m borrowing our HBL K, but I plan to track it down for our permanent library. I’m going to read it again when they’re older. It’s a great book, but kinder is pretty young for this read, especially if you’re in the midst of a tough season.

We just finished it and I would agree completely with you! My bigger kids are more sensitive than my kinders but I was the one that fell to pieces reading it! It is an amazing book, but it definitely doesn't shy away from the hardships of life!

I have twins nearing the end of 1st grade and I have to do their math and ELA separately too :) I think in second grade, I am going to try to do the actual lessons together, but do independent work separately 1 on 1 with them. I think they really crave that 1 on 1 time too and honestly, it helps me understand them as individuals and any gaps, strengths, etc.

Oh man I can so relate. My rheum has been checking my labs every three months due to being on a biologic, and around Christmas my kidney function took a nose dive. I had to stop the biologic, which caused my pain to return. I had to see a nephrologist and have a kidney biopsy ugh! All that to say I am ok now, but trying to decide whether to try a new biologic or just try lifestyle stuff to manage my condition. Hugs, because I know how hard it can be to homeschool along with having chronic health issues. ❤ Hope things get better for you!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear you are going through all of that! Yep, that is pretty much what happened to me except it was my liver function ... not sure what the new game plan is for my next round of infusions yet! Stay strong, it is hard to have health issues while homeschooling, but I wouldn't have it any other way :)

@@sciencemama Yes! I focus so much on just trying to find the joy each day. I tell my kids that if there weren't hard days or challenges in life, we wouldn't appreciate all the beautiful, wondrous and mundane moments in everyday life. I hope they are able to find something that works for you without any adverse effects!

I have twins and I have to keep them separated for Math and LA. It does take extra time but its whats best for them. Because they both are neurodiverse in different areas I had to even have them in different curriculums. They are in 3rd grade and this semester I finally put them in the same Math. 1 does Nicole the Math lady and the other I teach and that has worked well. But it has taken us awhile to get there. I also had to teach them at separate times because, like yours, they competed and were more concerned with what the other one was doing. 😂 It takes more time but I also have more of my sanity. Lol

I have twin 5 year old girls, and there are certain things I can have them do at the same time (like certain games from Math with Confidence), but most lessons must be done separately to make sure one twin isn't leaning on the other twin to answer. One thing that's helped me is reminding myself that they are 2 separate people that happened to be born at the same time. If they were singletons, I wouldn't be forcing them to do individual lessons for math and science together, so I shouldn't expect to do that for my twins.
@sciencemama

Yeah, they are definitely two separate people! Thanks for sharing :)

I have 5 kids, even a high schooler and this is the first year I had to teach everyone separately bc mine also don't do well learning together which is so much harder for me but it's better for them. Solidarity ❤

I have a question! My 4.5 year old is really into reading. We started with letter sounds instead of names, so because of that, she can read. I pieced together Abeka K5 after watching your videos and thinking AAR would be too slow of a pace. She got into the big cards with the blends. We have learned ck, sh, th and ch. The 2 vowel rule just came up naturally and she picked it right up. She still confuses r and n, but knows silent e. I'm sharing all of this because it's HARD to figure out what curriculum to use. I want it to be fun, because she is going to be a young Kindergartener. She would be so far into most programs though, and it's expensive to buy. We haven't even started Abeka, but I feel like it will be busy work for her, for at least the first half. She is my oldest though, and I need something to follow. She is interstate and learning organically but I am at a loss. I would love any and all feedback.

It sounds like Abeka may be a bit too much busy work ... you could always get the readers and workbooks and go at her pace until she slows down and then pick up the rest of the program. Or maybe a more straight forward program like Teach Your Child to Read in 100 lessons ... I think that is what it is called!
@lisaroper421
@lisaroper421 3 ай бұрын
So I have used Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, and I think your kiddo is passed it! :D I can't tell if you are looking for a reading curriculum, or a broader LA thing. I have a kiddo who has picked up reading super fast, so I will tell you what I am doing with both and you can see if any of it fits your situation! For our main LA we have used The Good and the Beautiful. Super trendy and mainstream, I know. But they have the huge benefit of offering their stuff free so you can check it out with no monetary commitment (if you can order, I would suggest you do, if you think it ends up being a good fit-- they have good quality printing, and still very affordable). The other reason I like them is that their reading can go at a lightning fast pace while other things just chugg along. So my K is reading their 1st grade stuff, and doing K book work. And it works without a hitch. I also add in lots of early readers from all sorts of other places so that we get reading practice, but not necessarily a formal reading lesson every day. Tl;dr: I like TGATB for letting reading rush along, or just adding in good books from wherever! Sounds like you have a lovely reading future!

Prenda Treasure Hunt Reading program is free 300+ page pdf download with free videos to go along with each lesson. There's a parent guide video to watch first to make sure you understand the program and follow it. My daughter started it the summer before Kindergarten and starting reading because of it. Then we paused it to do her formal circculum which is Abeka. We only do Abeka Language phonics and Abeka Math. No need for science or history at this young age. I will circle back to Prenda Treasure Hunt Reading program over the summer to pick up where we left off because it goes over letter blends towards the end of the course. It's a really fun, free, engaging, and solid phonics circculum. Abeka offers games and songs sold separately if you want to add in more fun but you don't need it.
