Hi Lauren So agree about Babel. Am 3/4 through Yellowface. So good2. Love the way that the surface story about what happens when J thieves the manuscript but also enjoying the themes about the publishing industry, how social media anonymity affords opportunity for vileness and questions about what is cultural appropriation and trying to nail creativity eg isnt borrowing something all writers do.

I really want to read Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries as I think I will love it! An Immense World is also one of my top non fiction TBR for this year as well, have only heard amazing things. I really liked A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting but it was the slow burn romance I really enjoyed, as I find a lot of regency is quite fast-paced and into bed very quickly so I loved the slow burn, enemies to lovers until 99% way with this one haha.

Monsters sounds very intriguing. My feelings around those sorts of things have always been pretty complex, and I don't think they'll ever stop being that way! Would be really interested to give Monsters a read and see if it prompts any thoughts about it all

I just bought Babel this month after seeing you mention it a few times. Sometimes I’m wary of reading things during the hype. So excited as I’ve just found out Susannah Clarke has a new book out this year set in the same world as Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

I actually DNF'ed Madam a while ago but I can't remember why now. I might have to give it another go! I definitely want to read Babel ☺

I don't know what it says about me that your description of "Family Meal" makes it more interesting to me. Yong's "An Immense World" was such a good book for me. I was one of the KZfaq Prize judges who voted for it to win the best nonfiction book.

I've listened to The Tw*t Files as well, and I agree, I enjoyed it on the whole, but some bits were a bit meh. I'm seeing Dawn French in May when she comes to Australia! I'm a bit excited about that, and glad that I left six months between the audiobook and the show. I've also listened to The Curfew and thought it was ok. I want to get to Babel one of these days, books that long really quite intimidate me though. I'm just finishing up the audio of How to Say Babylon from the Women's Prize for NonFiction long list, and must say it's sensational! Safiya Sinclair's narration, and her beautiful Jamaican accent really adds so much to the bones of the story. Definitely one for audio.

Thank you Lauren for all the time you give to your videos! Wondering if Emily Wilde would be a good book to save for a winter read?

On Sunny and diet culture talk: just because it is still there doesn't mean you have to read it. I really utilise Storygraph's system to avoid things I don't want to read about.

When the GC lot were kicking off about Welcome to St Hell ("Think of the children" blah blah) being in the YA section at Waterstone's, I nearly bought it out of solidarity. But based on your review, I might actually buy/read it because it sounds really good!

Some great recommendations there. I'm reading the Emily Wilde one now, I originally thought she was the author 😂. I won't read Monsters and certainly don't agree that Joanna Rowling is one. I wasn't aware of the Lewis Hancox book and have added it to my list, it sounds like good fun and especially important in these times when so many kids are transitioning. With The Curfew, I'm totally put off by the cover, you're not supposed to judge, but I can't help it 😂

I'd really like to read Babel but I'm a bit intimidated by its size it's a beast of a book maybe I'd manage better with the audiobook 😂

My husband appeals especially if it's revenge related. I am still looking for books with 'Promising young woman' (the film) vibes. Please let me know if you can think of any? Thanks
