Yeah the stump grinders on the skid steers always are a bit iffy because they don't have a lot of weight or hydraulic power, seen them for back hoes and the likes and they seem a bit less janky and struggle less.

UBC and Fecon are a great team. The grinder is so powerful and cool to watch. I don’t know what the view is like from inside the cab, but several times I thought if you inched forward or backward a hair the grinder head would be more perpendicular/ level to grind a straighter path down into the heart of the stump, especially on smaller stumps. Has Fecon thought about placing a large visible level on the black motor casing so the operator can watch the level bubble? Seems that would do the trick…if it’s even needed. Maybe I am overthinking the process. 😁 Another fine job by Jon, Josh, Willie and Micah!

I seen a couple videos using a stump grinder like the stump-x before but, they were much slower. Time wise of digging the stump out would be just a long if not longer and you still have to get rid of the stump. If you are worried about the wear and tear on the 120 go out and buy a older machine just for the stump-x. The stump-x did a good job grinding the stumps up in a timely manner.

Hey jon! Couple of tips for you! 1 plz wear your chaps! Your legs/ knees well thank you! Trust me i know! 2. When bucking size wood like that or bigger have at least 2 wedges with ! You can use them to keep your saw from getting stuck! 3 . On your logtrailer look at a trailer from the pnw! On our bunks thier is a peice of iron on the bottom of ours! Its thier to help keep your load of logs from moving or shifting ! The knives as thuer called help with it they cut into the logs enough so they dont move as easly. Trust me im nit sorried about your driving its the folks out thier in 4 wheelers that i am a hard breaking while hauling logs is not fir the fainted heart. And all yhe saftey you can take the better bro! Br safe

I'd love to get a peek at the engineering regarding the StumpEx. If I could make a suggestion? Cutting the stump as low to the ground as possible before starting would help a lot I think. You'd have less stump and you'd hit root/dirt quicker; just a thought. Great video as always. *God bless.*

Just a FYI for you always put new tires on one axle never split them up cause you will wear them out quickly the new tire has more meat than the used tire witch will lift the use tire up and all the weight is now on the new tire. The tire place that put them on should have told you so it was either a lazy guy or one that was not trained correctly witch is still lazy but from the teacher

That grinder did a nice job on the main stump but if I see a disadvantage it would be in chasing the roots out away from the stump, especially on the big ones like you had there. A conventional grinder may make it easier to chase those big roots.

That could make $$$$$ with a custom lumber mill guy. Imagine a table or desk top made out of wood with the kind of grain that would come out of that log. Yeah, if you don't have time a lot of those interesting logs end up as chips in the compost factory.

I think that's the first time I've seen you faceplant the skid steer like that. That had to be an odd feeling. That is one wicked stump grinder though. The way it walks the whole skid steer sideways just wow. It made an impressively easy job of that give stump. I don't know if you were, but I would continuously put forward pressure on that left track since that's the direction that stump grinder wants to walk the ASV. It might help prevent that torque walk.

Thank you John and fecon there's nothing like putting the hands of your tools into a contractor Sands, what I got out of the video is that I would use this on 30in stumps or smaller otherwise it's too hard on the pins and bushing. If you have many of anything bigger than that higher a professional stump grinder machine.. I am more worried about you loading the front of that trailer without the tractor hooked up to, hopefully you will get it hooked up without tipping the trailer over and get it hooked up and or get it hooked up before the landing gear sink in the ground and can't get underneath that without unloading it first. I've been there and done that or with that the logs log loaded over-the-back tandems of the trailer or in the center if possible. One last comment on the stumpex make sure you get plenty of money when using it for pins and bushings and possibly welding.)-[@#=]

Personally, I prefer the vertical 'Wheel' type although I find it tends to be what the customer is doing with the land afterwards and the size of the 'stump' compared to the size of the 'cutter'. In your case the 'stump' was bigger than the 'cutter' - always a problem. In our Country you would have been welcomed at any mill with that Oak (branches and all), in fact they would probably have come and cut it down personally and taken it away, plus they would have paid you a very good price per cube for it. An Oak 40" at the base of the trunk is a very desirable tree, - Why, - Every single one in our Country (UK) has a 'preservation' order on it now.

That stump head sure does have huge amount of torque but the keeping of the bit stable on uneven surface is kind of a drawback. But still gets the job done, maybe FECON will develop a head that pivots like a standard high speed stump grinder. Great video🤩🤩🤩

I think at times there was too much down pressure applied to the StumpEx. If you just let it eat, it shouldn't twist the loader arms. Patience is the key. You ground a 36" stump in 20 minutes I'd say you pushed it really hard even though you were very methodical with your approach.
