Tati saw this video and she confirmed she isnt a fry screamer. She's using her false folds in her throat to do that scream. Many people in metal do so!!! It's not uncommon for women to do this, but she's become popular for it! I'm proud of Jinjer and how far they've come! Their music is amazing!!! Perennial and Bad Water are top tier for me

@virginialee50654 жыл бұрын
But... it wasn't vocal fry, people?... It was growling, wasn't it? Vocal fry sounds completely different and growling is based on vocal fry, possibly, but they are not the same thing?..
@ksmnocreativity4 жыл бұрын
@@virginialee5065 it was both. In that live session, Tatiana overdubbed herself. So live, she's using vocal fry, and in the overdub she's growling with herself. That's why it sounds so strong and gut punching.

I would call Tatiana’s technique at 02:11 “false vocal” singing. She’s developed her second set of vocal folds (ventricular folds), which create a sub harmonic. Vocal fry is generally at the true vocal fold level. Awesome vid, by the way. ❤
@aqs33 Жыл бұрын
In the metal community it's known as a false cord scream. There's also fry screaming which is a misnomer and unrelated to vocal fry.
@kokovocals Жыл бұрын
@@aqs33 Nice! Yeah, ‘false cord scream’ makes sense. Voice science terminology tends to use ‘fold’ now instead of ‘cord’. (I should have said ‘false vocal fold’.) But what exactly is fry screaming? Can you describe the physiology? Curious.
@triplej86668 ай бұрын
What is Fry Screaming? First, let's make it clear what I'm talking about here. The term fry screaming comes from the term vocal fry, which is used to describe both the voiceless sound done by closing our vocal folds, and the cracking sound that comes up sometimes when we speak. Even though neither of these things is exactly what we do to scream, the Kim Kardashian voice and the so-called fry scream have something in common: they both comes from the arytenoids, and that's where the name came from. So this will be the definition I'll be using here, screams that are done by distorting your voice with the arytenoids. To make it clear - this is what I'm talking about: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fcppgsuK19WwfmQ.html What you need for fry screaming is to find a way to make our arytenoids slap together and rasp to distort your voice. That requires them to be close to each other, but it also requires some room in your glottis for them to vibrate. The trick is finding that balance. Closing your Arytenoids There are two muscles that can close your arytenoids: the LCA and the TIA. Each of them give a different tone to your scream. Being able to control them separately (either to isolate them or to combine them), will give you a lot of flexibility in your scream. The LCA is the muscle that activates when you raise your soft palate. If you're not sure if you can control it, take a flashlight, go to the front of a mirror and yawn. You'll see your soft palate raising. Practice until you're able to sing with your soft palate raised that way. It might take some practice if you're new to vocal technique, don't worry. The TIA is the muscle that activates when you reach the 5th octave. Just do it, the timbre doesn't matter. (if you don't play any instrument, here's a reference kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8mIiM56y8DcqZs.htmlm24s) You should feel a muscle at the back of your throat being pulled back and upward as you raise the pitch. You'll also notice the shape of your soft palate will change compared to the yawn shape from before. The LCA will give you the so-called power fry tone, which sounds like this. The TIA will give you a more "raspy" and weak distorted tone, which sounds like this. Opening your Arytenoid There's only one muscle that can open your glottis the way we want, the PCA. It is the muscle you use to achieve your whistle voice, if you can do it. If you're a normal human being, like me, try this: close your throat with everything way you can, tense up all the muscle in your neck, and now... take a deep breath. You should feel a muscle opening your larynx that you literally cannot inhale air without moving it. Repeat it a few times until you feel it. That's your PCA. What you need to do is to train your brain to be able to contract your PCA while singing (exhaling air.) But, of course, you need to keep your LCA and/or your TIA strong or your glottis will open too much and you'll not make the sound you're looking for.@@kokovocals

Wow, the overtone singing is amazing!! I have cds of Tibetan monks doing it & a few tracks of Mongolians doing it, it's always fascinated me. I'm a sound vibration healer & I can overtone but nowhere near Avi nor the 2 I mentioned. I have a deep voice & the overtone sounds I make sound like a didgeridoo, lol. I have saved videos of how to overtone, I haven't watched them yet but this has inspired me to do it, it'll add to my sound vibration healings & the sound baths I facilitate 🎵💓🎶

I like the variety of generes displayed here, I don't want it to be a metal video, but... some of the most "Alien" voices I know from metal are: Youri Raymond (Unhuman) Som Pluijmers (ex-Cerebral Bore) Oliver Rae Alleron (Archspire) Florian Magnus Maier (Alkaloid, Dark fortress) And theres a lot more, but those are the ones I recall in this moment
