When I was a kid growing up in rural Indiana I ran a 1980 JD 4440. It was a very strong tractor. Manure spreading, grain cart hauling, whatever my little 10 year old butt could do I was on it. We had to strap a bag of feed to the seatback so I could push the pedals. Legs were too short! Eventually we fabricated up some extensions so I could get rid of the bag. Loved that tractor

Hi Eric, It makes definitely sense to overhaul the old Deer. I don't think the new machines will stay so long as the old ones. And take a look on the tires - the Pressure seems to be low. Greetings from Germany!

Army did a study on Maintenance with Professional Mechanics or Grunts or fixing it when it broke. Mechanics had better uptime than Grunts but doing maintenance when something broke gave them the best equipment uptime.

Love your videos! My Grandpa bought a new Oliver 77 with live PTO in about 1950. It had over 42,000 hours on it by the mid 1970s. The only time it was washed was when it got overhauled. My cousin still has it but I told him I’ll buy it if he ever sells. Love old tractors!

You might just need to adjust the flow control on top of the remotes. That tractor has way more hydraulic capacity than your old one.

The 4240 had open center hydros while the 7130 has closed center hydros(could be switched not 100% sure). This causes them to not work as well. We have a 4440 and a 7130 and had a similar problem. The pumps are just slightly different. Edit the 7130 we have has 5000 hours on it while the 4440 has 12k (for reference)

Hi Eric, we have been running a 4240 on our mixer for years. It didn’t have a turbo on it and was using a lot of fuel so about a year ago we put a turbo on it and we still run it on the mixer. Not only to we save a lot of fuel but also runs better and sounds a lot better.

I think you guys made the right move in switching out the 4240 JD with the 7220 JD. Makes good sense to me, saving money on the fuel usage is real important in this economy. I see your point on the fender, I guess there are some things that may be not quite as good. Great video, liked it a lot, thanks Eric. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Try switch what remote does what. Sometimes remotes are prioritized. Like if remote one runs the belt the tractor will make sure that it’s needs are met before remote 2 can work.

One thing I know you guys want to do more, but time and work stops is cleaning your equipment. Cleaning as you know, aids in maintenance and its easier to diagnose problems. It's easy to implement on paper, but finding time on a dairy farm is like finding gold in a mountain, you know it's there, but getting to it is the problem. A good example is Cole the Cornstar. They make it a point to clean their equipment. It's not daily dairy use, but it makes it so much easier.

It is better using a newer tractor for a mixer. They often use less fuel for mixing. When you think the old cheap tractor is better, the more expensive newer one is more economic at the end of the year. It is running lots of hours even if it doesnt feel that way!

It’ll be the closed centre hydraulics on the 7130 and the belt will be taking the most oil flow so it’ll power it first then ur next spool. Our mixer tractor is the same When the conveyor is running it won’t close the door fully sometimes

Straight to the point here I'd say ya it makes sense to put that tractor on the mixer it's definitely nice to have heat in an inclosed cab don't really need 4 wheel drive for anything but ya might as well keep things interesting change it up a bit after all that tractor was just going to sit all winter other than the spreader but

Personally I would have kept the old tractor on the mixer because one thing it is old and reliable and it is two wheel drive so if you have to do some mucke spreading in the winter you will not have your 4 wheel drive to do it with.

All this time and no one has ever mentioned. I know someone makes a valve you plug into the remote and you can turn 1 into 2. If I remember right it's got an electric switch and you flip back and forth without getting out. So you could run the swing to the side you want then switch to the belt to run feed. I'd have to ask uncle Google to try and find it.
