Thank you for sharing all of your information. I just have a 7 1/2 gallon tote as I start out to nourish my small raised garden. Thanks for the encouragement, Captain Matt! I'm an engineer by trade and after working being a desk for 14 years, I've found worm farming quite refreshing. The hardest part for me is leaving them alone! I've learned a lot from your videos and often times watch with my children. Maybe they can get your autograph some day! Thank you for the kid friendly content.

I appreciate your honest & simple approach to worm farming. I grew up as a child with my grandfather farming worms. He had a cinderblock building with concrete raised beds throughout. He would make me come in after school and count exactly 100 worms in a box and then would sell to local small stores. I hated that job as a kid but I think after watching your videos I may start this myself. THANK YOU for what you post. And you have a lovely family too!

Hi Captain Mat, Vanessa here from South Africa. Thank you for all videos . They are incredibly helpful. My question is, once you start adding to the grow out bins and they get really full I don't see that you fluff, airrate or turn the soil in the bottom. Does the soill not stagnate and become smelly? Especially since no way to drain any liquid off 1 ton bags.

Also, I like this GIANT worm bin idea better than a CFT because I want to “go big” with compost production as well as breeding eventually, and building this giant bin is way more simple than building my own CFT. So thank you for all the helpful information Captain Matt!

I am a big fan of BTI also, however, I would think that along with killing the larvae for the flies, it might also hurt the natural biome developing in the worm castings. Do you have any knowledge on this?

Love your videos and how you educate us in such a practical way. I just wanted to ask, how did you build the bulk bins, and is is lined with plastic? (at the bottom as well as the sides?) And what do you suggest to do if you have your worm bin outside to stop the worms from escaping at night?
@CaptainMattsWorms

I think we forgot to line the bin from this video - but other bins are lined with plastic just on the sides. Outside, I'd still keep a lid and a light inside if possible.

how cold does it get in your garage in the winter? I'm in buffalo NY so I imagine pretty similar weather but my garage is not insulated or heated but well protected from the wind and elements. would worms survive in a cft out there? average low is around 19F in winter here.

Hi Matt! I am trying to catch up on all the content you’ve put out so I have lots of questions! What is the dry “worm chow” mix made of and what’s the purpose of it if you’re giving them blended veggies and coffee grounds? Do you ever get bedding materials from donors in the community, and if so, where? I don’t have enough property to use my own leaves/etc. as bedding. Last question has already been asked on this comment section: do you need to heat your garage in order to give this giant worm bin a proper temperature environment? My garage has no heating or insulation right now and it’s getting to be winter time quickly here in Idaho.

Hi Captain Matt, I have been following you journey and you have very smart ideas. I would like to make a comment for you to think off to make the bins easer to harvest the worm castings. Great video I have some questions. Do you freeze your vegetable scraps first? Are you concerned that the bin would heat up too much when adding everything? What is your bedding mix?
@CaptainMattsWorms

Hey Matthew! I freeze root vegetables first. Adding 5 gallons of browns when I feed and pre-blending food for rapid consumption keeps the bin from overheating

Hello Captain! In Romania there is, among those who deal with Vermiculture or Vermicomposting, the statement that they actually grow a hybrid created by the State University of California called "Red Wiggler of California" (the scientists from the University of California would have brought improvements to the common red wiggler ) They also call this so-called hybrid also with Eisenia Fetida. Is it true? What do you know about this? With admiration and respect, Stefan!
