I've worked with many OTTBs on dialling a diet that's balanced and flexible based on individual needs.
The most important consideration is type of calories and balanced amino acids, vitamins and minerals.
Here is the breakdown:
- base of soaked beet pulp / alfalfa pellets
- California Trace, no SE (CO is high in Se)
- magnesium
- salt
- vitamins E (non pasture horses)
Optional add-ins and why:
- Amplify: good for weight gain
- rolled oats: grain free option for picky eaters
- triple crown senior: add for picky eaters
