It's like the same way comedies rarely win Oscars when in my opinion it's a billion per cent harder to make people genuinely laugh than it is to make them cry. For some reason ugliness seems more "deep" to critics but creating true beauty is a miracle.

but like, there's beauty everywhere... honeycombs in a beehive, shoe patterns in snow or mud, the way shadows fall across other buildings or people... little tulips turning their faces to the sun. I love your channel :)

My god. As an artist, I've STRUGGLED with "but what am I trying to SAY with this art?" for sooooo long, and it completely stops me from making art. I need to listen to this about a hundered more times.

Beauty can muster up profound and unusual and unfamiliar emotions in a person. Beauty can make you have physical sensations, where you feel an openness glide down from your face to your neck to your chest. I have cried from enjoying the beauty of sunsets, fish, trees and the male physique. Finding beauty hugs the human spirit.

Thank you very much for this video. I was in need of a beauty quest, so I took a walk with my camera. The air was crisp, the wind was causing the remaining leaves to sing in the trees, and as I was close to returning home, I saw a Sharp-Shinned Hawk on a Red Pine branch! I definitely feel recharged and inspired.

This is a fascinating take on the idea of what beauty means. As much as we long for physical beauty in our society we also treat it as something shallow and meaningless. It is simultaneously something desirable and something you shouldn't be seen desiring. I think the importance of beauty is in the way we appreciate and enjoy the world around us. We treat beauty like a resource or a tool used in the media to advertise and influence each other, but I think beauty is valuable because it gives us a reason to love life. Experiencing beautiful things, whether it's music or a painting or a story or something else, makes life worth living. I think as a society we often try to squeeze every last ounce of worth out of things in the name of progress and success, in an economic sense as well as an emotional one, and when we do that we ruin these things. Beauty has seemed to lose its depth and meaning because we've taken it and stripped it of everything that made it sacred.

your story from art school reminds me of a story hila klein told on the h3 podcast years ago that has always stuck with me. she was talking about being in art school and her professor told her something like "you'll never be a good artists without suffering. if you are so happy." she went on to say how she disagrees and how it is a very nihilistic way of viewing creating and life. now she owns her own amazing and creative fashion company. so proud of her. and so proud of you! you keep strong to your beliefs - beauty does have depth! beauty has true value and possibilities. thank you!!!

Love this - thank you! You have made me think about my tendency to feel guilty about my love affair with beauty, as though it’s too frivolous a thing to devote oneself to in a serious world. But it’s actually the most serious and wonderful thing of all.

Dear Molly, I've been silently watching your videos for a few years now. Your videos are so wonderful, but I noticed one thing in particular: you seem to always turn the negative things people said to you into something good. The "beauty lacks depth" statement is the perfect example and I also remember other stories from older videos where you did something similiar. That really shows off your great personality, it is a skill to turn something hurtful or mean into something so powerful. That's truly so inspiring... it makes me go over my own thought patterns. I wish I could implement a similiar thinking into my own life, maybe someday! :)

Molly you’re an amazing artist! ✨⚡️The argument over beauty is giving me Art school critique flashbacks. I had a fellow classmate once tell me to burn a painting I had, and film it because “it was too beautiful and I should make better use of my intention for something more meaningful”. Meanwhile their work look like lazy crap if I’m honest. Thank you so much for this defense of beauty!✨❤️🌊✨☀️✨

Wow! I had never considered beauty as a birthright! You have really given me something to chew on. As an artist, I have had simular encounters with professors. I have been watching you...like forever....you get more beautiful as time goes by....My art teacher in high school looked at one of my watercolors (that I was particularly proud of (hey...I was a teen) and he said..."Oh that has been done so many times before." I wish I had said to him...well think of all the different artists that have painted sunflowers in there own way. But I as a good little girl and bit my tongue. It was the 60's and his artwork (phew) was...well...not inspiring to me...I won't be mean. But do you really tell someone...well. that has been done before? I can think of so many things that people do over and over again - in their own ways. I still have that painting. It is hanging in my den and when I walk past it...I just think "Well...you certainly lasted the test of time." It still makes me happy. Oh...that nutshell is adorable. Like you!

Haha laughing at your professor's comment because... nature creates beautiful things... a flower is not a random creation of nature, it is deliberately designed by the universe to be beautiful. I do not think of beauty as a social and cultural construct as many suggest - there are "patterns of beauty" that exist in many different cultures, one changes the external part of the pattern but the essence of what is beautiful remains untouched, like symmetry. Laughing at your professor's comment because he literally said nature lacks depth LOLOLOL. I think beauty is necessary. Yes, continue creating beautiful things, please....

Soooooo feel you on this. I’ve said before that Beauty is my true religion. It’s actually my reason for being and it does seem to be under some kind of attack, although it can’t be gotten rid of so is perverted often into something that actually does lack depth. But Beauty in and of itself as an archetype is Holy.

What do you do when you can't see beauty in yourself or in others? I have very low self esteem and have suffered a lot of horrible things; including lifelong mental illness, bullying, my brothers drug addiction, abuse and more. My world seems like it has always been an ugly and terrible place to be, so I can't see beauty in anything anymore.

It seems like going on a Beauty Quest would be wonderfully healing for you. And as Molly suggests, start with non-human objects. Start by exploring colour, shape, form, light and shadow.

@@laurenfisher322 It is a worthwhile struggle indeed, to pursue the task at hand; but by no means does this fact make it any less difficult. For each object has its own unique mark on any given individual and that sometimes means memories of harm for some, but not others. I do wish to be successful, but I do believe that the journey will most likely be very long as the ghosts of words and sounds whisper more loudly than they should upon the things I see.

Hi Molly! I'm not one to reach out quickly. But I've been knocked out by a proper broken heart lately. It doesn't glisten like a broken mirror. It`s a lumpy, goopy mess that is dark and raw. I feel no magick inside and I see none outside. All I seem to think about is my great love that has put on their boots and went the other way. How uninspiring of me to have depended on their presence so much... I know time heals. But I've been wondering how magick healing can take place when there is no energy or sparkle left. Love ya x
