That double LP album is so full of great songs that most people have never heard before. Examples include HARMONY AND ME and ALL THE YOUNG GIRLS LOVE ALICE. Give them a listen when you can.

Oh man this one been hidden away deep in that album. I was in 10 th grade when that album took the world by storm. All I listened to for months. Saw Elton 4 Times. Once in a very small Venue. Constitution Hall. Like a movie theater. Was amazing. All his early music and concerts were masterpieces. Go back to Older early Elton. Bad side of the moon. For one. 1970. Recorded in a little club I think. Real Elton, pounding the ivory.

This is one of my favorite songs from this album. Obviously Elton’s piano playing/ vocals are great but Nigel Olson’s drumming is done so good and helps set the mood. Big influences on me as a young knucklehead drummer Dee Murray on bass and David Johnson on guitar Great song.

Watch William S. Burroughs "A Thanksgiving Prayer." He was a poet, storyteller who was on every three-letter list of government. Please, react to my late friend and poet Walter Lacey, reciting Langston Hughes. Let America Be America Again, performed by Walter T. Lacey, written by Langston Hughes. You are beautiful my man.

A Thanksgiving Tradition!. Since this song came out in 1967 millions celebrate each Thanksgiving listening to this iconic legendary masterpiece of story telling. It is worth the 18+ minutes to hear this tune. I would be negligent if I didn't suggest you give it a listen, maybe react to it. some of us will really appreciate it..... Beautiful choice. This song is easily overlooked on an album full of great songs! I think you are right on the backwards guitar lead; but no, this is not a first. The Beatles did that on Revolver on several different songs back in 1966.

Around 5:00 is the flipped guitars sound, replicates oboes which not in the orchestra. heard this with Beatles White Album, #9 i guess. the bass doubles the piano chords in the verses to make it heavy, as you say. There's like, tight acoustic strumming just before, some triangle [ting ting ting] to tell you something's about to happen.

06:44 Be aware that Elton didn't write his lyrics. They were written by Bernie Taupin, a lyricist who their publishing company paired him with, early on, to great success, in the style of many classic musical/lyrical duo teams of the 20th Century, like George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart/Hammerstein, Gilbert and Sullivan, Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Simon and Garfunkel, etc. That whole double album is a classic '70s masterpiece, with hardly any dim spots. I used to think _Jamaica Jerk Off_ was one of those, until I heard Elton talk about what really happened when they were trying to record in Jamaica during a period of political upheaval, and basically fled the country, afraid for their lives, after coming under suspicion of the authorities, to France to start over recording the songs at Hérouville, a village in France. If you believe Sir Elton, all the songs were written over a period of two weeks in a hotel in Kingston, and the entire album was recorded over another mere two later weeks at Château d'Hérouville, where they'd recorded before. Incredible, if true. At any rate, the double album is a landmark record from the early seventies and deserves the deep dives you're doing. Good on you, man!

I think I can give some context to this sound. Elton and his band had been weaving orchestral and electric guitar beautifully from their beginnings (check out Caleb Q's weavings with Elton's piano) and this, especially at the time, kinda broke through the ceiling with it.

"I've Seen That Movie Too" - Bernie Taupin I can see by your eyes you must be lying When you think I don't have a clue Baby, you're crazy If you think that you can fool me Because I've seen that movie too The one where the players are acting surprised Saying love's just a four letter word Between forcing smiles, with the knives in their eyes Well their actions become so absurd So keep you auditions for somebody Who hasn't got so much to lose 'Cause you can tell by the lines I'm reciting That I've seen that movie too So keep you auditions for somebody Who hasn't got so much to lose 'Cause you can tell by the lines I'm reciting That I've seen that movie too It's a habit I have, I don't get pushed around Stop twinkling you star like you do I'm not the blueprint For all of your B films Because I've seen that movie too The one where the players are acting surprised Saying love's just a four letter word Between forcing smiles, with the knives in their eyes Well their actions become so absurd So keep you auditions for somebody Who hasn't got so much to lose 'Cause you can tell by the lines I'm reciting That I've seen that movie too So keep you auditions for somebody Who hasn't got so much to lose 'Cause you can tell by the lines I'm reciting That I've seen that movie too So keep you auditions for somebody Who hasn't got so much to lose 'Cause you can tell by the lines I'm reciting That I've seen that movie too So keep you auditions for somebody Who hasn't got so much to lose 'Cause you can tell by the lines I'm reciting That I've seen that movie too
