From my watermelon farmer friend - you want a sweet melon? Refrigerate it whole for 2 days before cutting it open. There's a chemical reaction that turns the fruit into sugar when the it's stored goes below 40 degrees. I buy mine on Wednesday for a Saturday party and I've never had watermelon that wasn't sweet - big spot, little spot, bee stings or not, dark lines or not - it's the chilling that does it. Try it! 🍉

Yea I've done this and that may affect the sweetness but putting it in the fridge definitely doesn't get rid of the sandy texture of an over ripe watermelon. The only way that I have ever been able to pick a perfect Mellon is by measuring the lines with 2 fingers. That way has never failed me and I've not gotten an over ripe Mellon since I've done it that way

It's always about the yellow spot and better if lines are going thru it. It means it's sweeter, been out in the sun and on the vine longer

yellow spot is just where it sat on the ground, so ignore the lines but go for the most yellow

@@41052they all have a yellow spot. It's just where they lay on the ground. If you want a sweet melon then tap it with your knuckle. The more hollow it sounds is the sweeter it will be. Tap a few to get familiar with the difference. I don't know about how the yellow spot works. I do live in the Caribbean, watermelons are everywhere. We tap.

Best childhood ever, we lived in the country side when watermelon season came we would hope and wait when some of the boxes on the trucks would fall over everytime they made a turn without fail two or three boxes would fall over we would pick up the watermelon that weren't cracked and bring them home the truck drivers wouldn't pick them up so it was always nice to get free watermelons.

It's sooo much better on mango! I like watermelon better with coarse salt, let it sit for a minute or two before so it can bring out the sugar in the watermelon. Yum! 😊

@@waffleiron_offical143 It's a Mexican seasoning, they use it in a lot of Mexican candy. It's 3 different types of ground chili peppers, dehydrated lime & sea salt - it isn't actually spicy, it's more tart from the lime.
