Yeah Michael plays 2nd fiddle to the lead trumpet🤣🤣 i do wonder though- was the chart written to the Dubba C gliss? Or did the lead player just decide to go for it🤔

Really great clean playing on this recording. Clean attacks, solid sustains, and clean cutoffs. Very well done. On a separate topic, if you decide to record Maynard Ferguson's arrangement of "Maria", from the musical "West Side Story", try playing the longer sustained notes using very even, medium-rate hand vibrato, like Doc Severinsen used to do on some of his recordings.

I think I will go with Maria this week, I'll try the hand vibrato but I'm not sure that I'm coordinated enough Ha ha!

Hello J, I commented on a previous thread about how I was having this issue with my sound being too airy. You suggested experiments with the gap on me leadpipe. I wanted you to know that I did experiments with that and wow! I play on a fairly deep Schilke 13 d4 mated to a Bach TR 300. So the results so far have been; the airyness in my sound is gone, the horn response is greatly improved -require less effort on my part, the intonation is more even from low to middle registers, the targets for the upper register are more discernible when I back off on the air. It's crazy! Thank you!

Amazing Jordan, do you have a tip to reach those higher tones that are over the five rows If you know what I mean?
@trumpetjordy
@trumpetjordy 4 ай бұрын
thanks ttandari! and absolutely my man, here's something you can try in order to reach those higher tones over the staff: try rolling your lips into your mouth slightly saying "MMmmmmm," keep your lips together (don't open up your jaw too wide), place your aperture near the top rim or bottom rim of your mouthpiece, now play a note. If it feels tighter than you're used to then you're doing it right;) The more you work on this and practice in the "high compression" set, the easier/ more comfortable it will become and you'll get better and better!

Quick question....You have good embouchure control so why do you do shakes "manually" by hand on not use wide lip/tonuge trills instead of manual shakes? They sound so much better and you did a really short one in the beginning that sounded great!
@trumpetjordy
@trumpetjordy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks James, I do most shakes with my tongue by saying Ah Ee Ah Eee Once in a while I’ll shake the horn if it’s a low note shake or a short duration shake like that quick low F natural shake near the end👍 shake it like a Polaroid picture😎
@jamesroberts3642
@jamesroberts3642 3 жыл бұрын
@@trumpetjordy Oh...I see. I've just personally always used tongue (Ah Ee) high OR low.... so I guess I just got used to it the way I do it since I got pretty good at it. I've heard manual "hand" shakes done well (high and low), but I can't do it and it's rare I hear a good one that doesn't just sound like an odd smear, horn oscillation. Either way...I was just curious because I'm always wanting to learn from others.....Awesome job man!!
@trumpetjordy
@trumpetjordy 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I always find it a bit weird when they write a shake in the staff, it doesn’t sound near as nice as above the staff, no matter how you do it😅
@jamesroberts3642
@jamesroberts3642 3 жыл бұрын
@@trumpetjordy Yeah...They don't sound as good, for sure. But, in my head, I just treat them as if it were something Armstrong, or Bix Beiderbeck, or another great Dixiland Jazz player from that time would treat them. I just try to mock them in how they do a fast lip/tongue trill but also smear it a little by pressing a valve or two halfway down so it doesn't sound only like a low, clean lip trill (too classical)...I always found I have to sustain the note for at least a halfbeat before I start moving the note (Ahhh..Eeee....Ahh, Eee, Ah, Ee, A, E). If interested, listen to them man! Even Clifford would do it sometimes. They pull it off and sounds great and even below the staff!!! PS......Don't know if your'e interested in any colabs, but I have some preamps, a Fathead II ribbon mic with the Lundahl mod, and just recently purchased a SE Electronics VR2 Voodoo Active Ribbon Mic to get some better recordings. I haven't done video on KZfaq, but have recorded. If you ever want to colab on on some jazz duets, or anything that does't require me sounding great over a double G, then feel free to message me!
@jamesroberts3642
@jamesroberts3642 3 жыл бұрын
PS...if you give me an email, I'll send you a short MP3 recording I did on my Fathead II Ribbon mic and you can decide if you interested in some kind of a colab. Just trying to reach out and do more with fellow players now that I have this equipment. Even trying to get some simple "recording feedback" too. No worries at all if you don't have the time though.

Hey what’s up Cam! Yeah it was really a last second tuning decision, 1+2 was a hair flat but 123 got it right in the sweet spot. I normally don’t micromanage false fingerings but since we needed to play the note over and over it made sense👌
