When you look at the specs for building shapes able to withstand cyclone-force winds, you'll find that the best shape is the one with no corners, i.e. the monolithic dome, or half- sphere. This is for the obvious reason that the upward push of cyclonic winds has nowhere to hook itself onto and lift the roof. The problem with monolithic domes is that they ate difficult to build, because of the frame. The next best thing is the geodesic.
