I have a Feelword 7" that I'm very happy with, especially for focusing. The SmallHD does have that hard to find waveform assist feature. If you rely on those for exposure, it's probably the only monitor under $500 you'll find them on. Pretty frustrating .

One question? Whenever I see a review of these monitors it seems that are geared towards film making. How about for viewing what you shoot as a photographer to make sure an image is well focused and also to compose using the monitor? I use a Nikon D-810 and the monitor in that camera is fixed, for low angle shooting I am visualizing that this monitor could be handy, and also for above shooting too. Would it display the camera settings too? Good review, and I hope for photography could work. Cheers.

I've been wondering the same thing for a long time. I have a sony a7iii and the resolution of the evf and lcd are terrible. The only thing I don't like about the camera. I've been in search of an inexpensive monitor I can use to better see my image while taking it, as well as for showing clients. I might pull the trigger on the feelworld as it's so cheap. What camera are you using? This sounds like a limitation of your camera not being able to output over HDMI while recording.

This helps. Thanks. But one question. Where on earth are you supposed to mount a rode mic if the monitor mounts on the top where a mic would usually mount? No video on KZfaq ever explains that.

The mounting bracket has a cold shoe mount on the side where you can mount a mic or other accessories.

That would depend on your camera, rather than the monitor. If your camera has a delay sending HDMI out while recording, then that will cause delay.

I am not familiar with that camera, but it sounds like you may need to check the HDMI output settings on the camera.

Is's not a Proprietary HDMI cable. It's just a short micro-HDMI cable, that you can pickup at any place that sells electronics. I have 6 of these cables that came with my Canon cameras. It features a single micro-HDMI input on the SmallHD 5.5" Focus OLED HDMI Monitor. Just FYI.

Just purchased this for my canon 70d and so far seems legit other than i can't get it to display full screen. This might be the cameras fault but would have been nice to know ahead of time since all my cameras are similar :(

Some DSLRs have issues outputting over HDMI in that 16:9 aspect ratio. Sorry about that!

Unfortunately that is a limitation of your camera. Not all cameras can output HDMI while recording.

That depends on if your camera is able to output via HDMI while recording. Some older cameras will shut off the HDMI feed while recording.

Hi again, one more question please? Might you have a recommendation for a 12 volt cable connecting to a USB-C or USB-A port on an external battery pack? I was checking out various 12 volt cables on Amazon and found it confusing for all the many sizes available. I also wasn't sure if this will work due to 5 volts versus 12 volts specified on various cables. I am currently able to use a USB-C cable into the USB-C DC port to power the monitor, but I also want to try a 12 volt cable as well. Thanks!

It will all depend on what battery pack you are using. Usually USBC and USBA outputs are only outputting 5 volts from those packs. 12 volt battery packs usually use a DC barrel type connector. However, I am a bit confused by your setup. The F5 does not have a USBC input. It only has a DC barrel input for 12 volts. Are you somehow adapting a 5 volt USBC output into the 12 volt port and it still powers the monitor? It is possible the monitor will run on 5 volts, but I have not personally tried it.

So with the included DC IN 5V Type-C port, I'm able to power the FeelWorld F5 monitor via the Anker 20,000 mAh battery mentioned just fine. But I'm curious to see what it's like to power the FeelWorld F5 monitor using the DC OUT 8.4V port. The RAVPower 20,000 mAh battery mentioned earlier is rated for 60W of power, so I'm guessing that has sufficient power for the monitor. But I'm uncertain which cable to get for 12 volt DC power. It's not super important, since I'm already able to power the monitor using the USB-C port, but I'm just curious about the 12 Volt port.

@@caseyonlocation8257 Interesting. My F5 does not have a USBC input port. It has a mini USB port for upgrade purposes only. Make sure you DO NOT try to send power to the monitor through the 8.4 Out port. This is an output port only, and is intended for sending power to a camera dummy battery.

If so, then I'll just forget the whole thing. The USB-C port on the monitor works great connected to my Anker 20k mAh external battery, so I'll just use that method.

Hello thanks for your videos. I bought a feelworld 5 monitor. Can you tell me please how to upload luts in this version. I thought it would be equipped with a SD card slot. But it's actually equipped with a mini usb. I bought a converter today in order to be able to read a usb drive.

Just got mine with the rawpower charger + 2 Sony npf550 batteries. The battery mount on the display is too big for such batteries and if I slightly move the monitor the battery just slips away :( any solution will be highly appreciated thx 🙏

That's interesting. I did notice that some batteries are a bit too large and will hit the swivel arm when trying to flip the screen. You can always flip the screen the other direction. However, I have not had problems with the batteries not remaining attached.

Yes, it will connect to anything with an HDMI output. All you need is the correct cable to adapt the action camera HDMI output to full size HDMI.

Seeing both the camera and monitor at the same time depends on your camera. If your camera can do HDMI out and still display its built in screen then yes. This monitor does not have a touch screen and has no camera control.

That is a limitation of your camera and not of the monitor. Not all cameras can output over HDMI while recording.

hey bart I have 2 questions, 1 what size is the DC input on the monitor and 2 how come it uses 7.4v at the batter and and more at the DC, can you use a plate to connect the battery and run a DC line from the plate and still power it up at 7.4v, thanks

I am going to research this for you and get back ASAP. But I believe it takes 7.4v using battery power because that is one of the highest voltages in commonly used (NPF) batteries. This means the monitor can run at 7.4v and you should be able to power it with a separate battery plate and a cable into the DC port. I want to check the voltage range for the DC input port just to be sure. My guess is it is something like 7.4 to 12v, but I want to make sure I give you the correct information.

I think I have some answers for you! I broke out the calipers to measure the DC barrel connector and it appears to be the common 5.5mm x 2.5mm. I also connected a 9V battery pack to the monitor through the DC connection and it powers up and works fine. I managed to find a product spec sheet that states the DC input is 6-24V. A query ... how do I make the screen appear complete ?, I have tried everything, like changing the resolution, pressing the info button repeatedly and I still see more options on the edge of the screen and instead of having the 5.5 of An inch that my feelworld offers I only have 4.5 to give you an example. Does the monitor go blank when recording? This may be a limitation of the G7. Some cameras cannot do HDMI output while recording.

Thanks for your video, thumbs up! I'm puzzled about one thing if you might have an answer. My new FeelWorld F5 5.5" 4K monitor has a "volume" control. But I hear no sound coming out of the monitor when I play back a video. I only hear sound coming out from the camcorder external speaker, nothing from the monitor. I made sure to unplug any cables from the camera's mic-in port and headphone-in port, but still no sound coming out of the monitor. This should be a simple no brainer thing. Any clues?

That sounds like a setting or limitation of the camera itself and not the monitor. If the camera can send play back audio via HDMI then the monitor should receive it. It sounds like your camera either cannot send audio over the HDMI, or there is a setting selecting internal speakers.

I wrongly assumed there was an external speaker on the monitor for putting out sound, that's false. Can only hear sound when plugging in headphones. Thanks for replying back!

By the way, the only one main gripe I have is with the placement of the USB-C port and Headphone-in port. When using the supplied L bracket to hold the monitor, both of those ports mentioned are blocked by the L shaped bracket because there is not enough space to pass a cable in between the port(s) and the bracket. However, I was able to resolve that problem by getting a right-angle USB-C cable. Plus I also have a right angle cable for a simple wired headphones that will fit into the tight space. I'm going to refund my F5 model for the F6 which has better features including 12 volts in and out, plus an improved L bracket that allows swivel without needing to loosen the screw, plus LUT support too. I haven't used the T7, so I don't know much about it. But if the specs are comparable, the decision is really going to come down to size. Is 7 inch too large for you to comfortably work with, or do you need all that screen real estate?

I have not used either of those, but if they have an HDMI output that you can adapt to a full size HDMI, it should work.

What camera are you using? That sounds like a setting in your camera rather than on the monitor.

Bart Johnson Productions Canon SL2. I looked through every setting I think it’s just an old model that doesn’t have that functionality. I just want to head and bought a touchscreen monitor

You can use this monitor with any camera than can do an HDMI output.

I was looking at the FW279 the 7" with 2200nits. I like the larger screen for anamorphic and I have heard that these use way less power than my Atomos 7". For a 5" size, it seems if you're looking at the SmallHD the Atomos Ninja V should also be considered too.

I haven't used the FW279, but I will try and look into it! I also haven't yet had the pleasure of working with the Ninja V. This little F5 came across my desk and I was actually pleasantly surprised for the most part.

@@BartJohnsonProd They also have a 7" 2200 nit with SDI for about $350 on Amazon too. I haven't used the Ninja V yet either. Still using the Inferno 7" and it is thirsty for power.

It will only pass through whatever is fed into it. It cannot remove anything from the input source.

That would be an issue with your camera. Some cameras cannot output over HDMI while recording. What camera do you have?

If you need a larger screen to view your image, then it can help. It would need to be a mirrorless camera, as DSLRs will not show you the actual final image until after the photo is taken.

I'm not sure I understand your question. What recording delay are you referring to? There is a slight delay over HDMI, but that is the nature of HDMI and will vary from camera to camera.

@@BartJohnsonProd the delay between what happens in front of the camera and what you see on the display. Some or most ( I'm still doing research) cheaper monitors have a huge delay, so you actually can't use them for proper filming with getting the focus manually and such.

If the HDMI output still works, any monitor should help. Hopefully you have it set to show the menu on the HDMI output

@@jasonmedas603 I’m not sure on a GH2. You can try connecting the camera to an HDMI TV or monitor you already have and see if the images comes up with the menu system visible.

That will depend on your camera. If your camera can output a lower framerate signal over HDMI while recording in 120fps, then yes. I don't know of any cameras that output 120fps over HDMI.

You can use any HDMI cable. Try finding one that will adapt to the size that fits your camera.

Poor monitors, not worth it. I got feelworld f5 pro and with less than 2 hours use the screen is flickering.

That is surprising! My F5 is still working fine, and I also picked up an F5 Pro as well. I would contact Feelworld and see if it can be replaced.
