Reining is a fascinating sport. I backed my youngster the natural horseman way and was astounded. There is a lot to Learn from western riding. It’s more natural and more free. Good for Anky. To be good at another discipline is amazing too

I have a bit of a background in both Western and English riding, and I'm going to say that many English riders have a lot to learn from Western riders. Getting on a Western horse changes your perception of how every horse should be ridden for the better.

@Nuke 'EmAll she used to win because of rollkur. She was an average rider before. When it was finally seen for the animal abuse that it is, she decided to change overnight. Thank God ppl don't really take her seriously in that. It just saddens me that the FEI covered it up for her and still supports this woman, and they wouldn't have done anything if the public hadn't started to complain.

It's said that reining is western dressage! And cutting cows shows dressage horses what the all the ring work is practicing for.
@sammyjones9132
@sammyjones9132 4 жыл бұрын
It's true. Reining maneuver's are a super controlled and precise. When you put a horse on a cow after doing a reining pattern the maneuver's make sense and it really just let's the horse that thinks for its self while working that cow and you're just along for the ride. It's exhilarating.

Reining is Spanish/Mexican dressage and this is true history. The saddle horn was invented in central México to attach the roping reatas and Mexican riders are the only riders in the world that developed this. It was later copied by Americans when they observed the Hispanic Mexicans

I feel sorry for Anky. In my view, she has lost her way in any having any feeling and empathy for the sentient creatures she is training. I do not know why this is. I feel also extremely sad, and angry about the way the her horses are being treated. (I would NOT say they are being trained) M J Hannah, MA (Psychotherapist) BHSAII

Big money in reining

Well, on the good side, I sincerely doubt that she's the type to embrace making a 20 month old spin and slide so they can compete in the three year old futurities without regard to his future life and health. I see far too much of that happening here in Texas, already. On the down side, it's kind of like watching an elegant ballet dancer go from Swan Lake to giving lap dances and twerking on a pole.

I'm surprised these futurities are not banned, there must be huge money behind it. I can't imagine the amount of joint issues and breakdown percentages there are. No decent horseman would be competing at that age.
@Pro3110
@Pro3110 4 жыл бұрын
@@alsosusieq256 There is a lot of money to be had in them, but you understand where I'm coming from, too. These horses are competing at an age where their dressage counterparts are being backed for the first time. Katherine didn't get that the snark comes from years of watching horses face a plethora of problems because of starting them as early as 18 months. One idiot actually bragged on Facebook in a local group that he started "this colt at 16 months and he's gonna' be a winner". I picked up a 4 month old Quarter Horse 6 years ago, and she's built like a little tank. I waited until she was a three year old before starting her aside from the occasional sprawl over her back and scratch her neck stuff. People around here looked at me like I'd grown three legs for waiting that long. I'm crazy about the little thing, and want her with me for a long time to come, sound and pain free, and yes, I wish that every horse would be given the chance to mature in their own time.
@kasnuss
@kasnuss 4 жыл бұрын
Well, I think I'll have to disappoint you. In Europe, Anky's infamous for practicing rollkur, which, if you haven't heard about, is pulling on the reins so that the horses nose touches its chest, which is really harmful to the horses physical and psychological health. The FEI said that doing that for 10 minutes is ok, whereas german veterinarian Dr. Gerd Heuschmann wrote books about how it clearly isn't.

The cowboy stuff is silly compared to dressage. It is certainly a change of pace though.
@Kimberlyk12
@Kimberlyk12 4 жыл бұрын
Why is it silly, its a sport made out of purpose. Ranch work needs a horse ready for sliding stops to cut the cows and spins to follow them, a horse light on the bit, listening to the seat of the rider. I love dressage, but if you think about it, it's also silly, horses flinging their legs around, dancing and prancing around haha, and don't get me wrong, I do dressage, because it's challenging and beautiful, but anything can be silly if you look at from a different point of view! Different sports for different purposes. Cattle ranching needs specific skills and reining shows them off. Watch Down the Fence on Netflix, i have a new appreciation for ranch work sports!
@maura_the_rose
@maura_the_rose 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, I've done both-- dressage is the basis to all riding, you know. Reining horses are trained with a thousand different buttons, it's certainly NOT easy by any means! They respond to very specific pressure, just like dressage horses. They're more alike than you think, only one (dressage) was birthed for showing and the other (reining) out of nessesity.
@johanna3916
@johanna3916 4 жыл бұрын
Maura_The_Rose Dressage was not birthed for showing. It was necessary for the military back when they were still mounted. Also the basics of dressage are necessary to keep the horse healthy
