This black-and-white film "Felicia" tells the first-person narrative of a Black high school student, Felicia, living in the Watts neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. It was shot just a few months before the Watts Riots broke out. Felicia speaks on the challenges of living in a segregated community in LA in the 1960s and expresses her hopes for a future of changed narratives. The narrator speaks often about the importance of an education in advancing one's lot in life. This groundbreaking film was produced by Stuart Roe, and the filmmakers are Bob Dickson, Alan Gorg, and Trevor Greenwood. Felicia was selected into the United States National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2014, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

From what I remember this girl went on to earn her university degree and became a public administrator in her state.

Non-woke perspective. This film doesn't answer why. It just tells. I know many people who lived this way not in Watts. Today we have San Francisco, Portland, Chicago, Baltimore on and on. Struggles produce, morals determine the fruit.

Excellent documentary through the eyes of a teenager living in a racist society. There should be an update through the eyes of another teenager for today so people can see that systemic racism persists in America.

I'm sure this was eye=opening to many when it came out. I don't think the girl pulled any punches. She seemed determined to succeed in life, and was applying herself to the task. But she was also quite aware that her environment and schools were woefully below the standards of other neighborhoods, where more affluent people lived.

People really dressed up for school in the past. I’ve noticed that trend across all socioeconomic groups. I’m curious about why this changed.
