Luckily in Australia, all packaged and tin food has to tell us the carbohydrate level. My cat gets kangaroo meat, fish and chicken so his diet is no carb. He is OBSESSED with food due to having feline diabetes. Our vet has diagnosed this and he gets 2 shots everyday at feeding times but this has not changed his obsession with food.

What the supermarket foods says and what it actually has are two different things. I've found, the food that controlled my cats diabetes before, no longer does since the shortages of the Covid-91 days started. It seems they are not sticking to the original recipes and using more fillers, ie carbohydrates.

You mention pancreatitis. My cat has both and is not responding to insulin very well. He is on 7! Units of Lantus. His numbers are still matched from 4 Units. Hardly at all. I really don't think it's agromegaly nor cushings bc he doesn't fit their symptoms but maybe have to do the tests to confirm. I've been a year into this and studying my brains out yet not feeling like I'm making progress. My vet just wants to up the dosage even tho his BG increases. Which tells me he is somewhat counter regulating. I also measure ketones so I can intervene before they spill into the urine. Which my vet said was useless. My vet and ER Vets believe I should only feed him twice a day. A cat is not a dog. Plus he is already starving and starving is only upping his BG plus it builds ketones quicker. I supplement with B12 and it has helped his neuropathy. I also give extra taurine. Milk Thistle & Dandelion supplement he refuses to take. IBS I treat with Slippery Elm Bark as needed. So far I have no been wrong with any of my theories. I don't think upping the insulin is the answer. If he's resistant he's resistant. I truly believe the resistance is linked with panc, liver and kidneys & IBD. I really like when you said you have to get creative. That is exactly how I feel yet the Vets are holding on to old protocols and also only seeing the diabetes. So my question to you is, what other options do I have? What forms of treatments are there for the whole combo set of Conditions? Sub-Q Fluids do him well but even there I have a whole can of questions now after stumbling across a med journal on Fluids for cats. I need help.

My cat is diabetic. 2 shots a day at 2. But sometimes sits by the water bowl.not drinking just sitting. Gets wet food 2c a day with dry food as well.. is that too much carb still

urinary infections common?

I'm only prescribed lantus. Should there be meal time insulin in addition? My Vet didn't seem to know what mealtime insulin was. I'm disappointed that my cat is still reading high and I'm only feeding him ketogenic cat food because of his readings are so high.

Does insulin make them eat more? I now have to give her 2 shots and she always hungry! She got diabetic after a bladder infection.

At last the truth. Our small Burmese is just newly diagnosed and we are told diet won't be enough, but vets who use naturally therapies say cats can be turned around and the pancreas encouraged to start working again (as in humans, many of whom are becoming non-diabetic again under natural therapist care, even after years on insulin and even type 1).
