This is my favourite of Felip's solos so far. It just feels like a very complete vision - music, lyrics, MV, choreo. All of it ties in together seamlessly.

Just to give a context on Ken's wardrobe on the first part of the vid: if you would read Philippine history, before we became Catholics we were Muslims. The head of each region was called a Datu and they wore something like that of Felip's with his long hair. So that was a pre colonial clothing. The Bakunawa is a serpent-like dragon in Philippine mythology. It is believed to be the cause of eclipses, earthquakes, rains, and wind. He was fascinated with the moon being so shiny and bright that's why he ate all the 6 siblings of Bulan and he was able to defeat it. So the song depicts that Bakunawa is something or someone that pulls you down.😊

Busan's story is actually a Native Mythology way before the arrival of the Europeans in the Philippines. Bulan is one of the 7 moon gods ( 6 of them were eaten by the serpent dragon due to it's jealousy of the brightness of the moon), Bulan remained alive but protected by his sister Haley (moon goddess). He was transformed to a human boy by his sister to be fully protected. He eventually realized who he really was, then the serpent realized who he'd become and would come eat him also and all along Haliya would keep on fighting the serpent dragon, hence, the blood moon (which symbolizes Haley's wounds) to protect Bulan. Philippines has so many amazing mythology stories. Btw, it was Stell's voice he used for the chanting.

Haliya is Bulan's (twin) sister; thus, she is the moon goddess. I believe this is part of pre-colonial Philippine mythology, long before the Spaniards arrived in the Philippines. These stories have already been passed on for many generations so they were not influenced by Western mythology (Greek/Roman mythology). Sadly, we studied more about Greek and Roman mythology in schools than the pre-colonial Filipino mythology so a lot of young Filipinos are not aware of the latter. It's for this reason that FELIP chose to use the story of Bulan in his music - to create an awareness about our culture, incl our pre-colonial mythology, to the Filipino youth.

This song actually talks about crab mentality and how other people try to tear down those who are trying to pursue their dreams,.as well as served as self-empowerment, especially in difficult situations..accdg. to felip himself,. "Bulan" talks about recognizing that powerful being within you and not letting other people consume your light. It shows the darker, more confrontational side of self-love. Because sometimes, the negativity gets too loud to ignore and the only way to get rid of it is to acknowledge the power that you hold and face it head-on.👌🔥

Haliya (the moon goddess) is Bulan's sister. Bulan has 7 other siblings since the moon has 7 phases. All the other siblings (except Haliya) were eaten by the Bakunawa (the dragon in the mv) because of their light.
