Like a lot of these videos I’m a bit late, but I rewatched this video this evening, and realised I had a couple of cheap spanners in the garage after all, so I went in there (my hideaway!) and modified the 13mm ring. Not entirely successful, but I usually have to ‘have a go’ once so that I can more fully understand the instructions! It’s working, it needs fine tuning but it’s working. If it goes well I might manage with the 13mm, but I have a 14mm in case I need to reset the project. Thanks Felix, you’re a gem! Les in UK 🇬🇧

Thanks again for one more inspiring idea on video. Being a steel guy, I like to suggest some ideas to improve the tool. You could also start with a straight double ring wrench acc. to DIN 837 B / ISO 3318. Then one wrench might be good for two carving tools of different size. Also, you can bend the ring to the desired angel after heating the bending spot until it's glowing bright red. Heating the ring to the same glowing color for 10 minutes in charcoal fire in your grille and letting it cool down slowly will soften the steel and make the file work easier. When your done with coarse sharpening, just heat it up again to red glow and quench it in cold water to harden the steel. With some luck you reach 55 HRC with allows higher sharpness and better edge retention. Don't do the heat treatment with a soldering torch or other blue flame to avoid decarbonization of the outer steel layers.

It is funny that I came across this video as I was scrolling through your channel as I had this same idea about two years ago and did this to three different sizes of wrenches that I picked up at a flea market for a little bit of nothing. I used a die grinder and rotary files to do the bulk of the mterial removal, then hand files, wet/dry sandpaper and round honing stones. I put an adge on both sides of mine to make them more versatile
@bombproofbushcraft

I have seen these plenty of times before on channels that just show the tool being made. BUT what I really liked was that you explained the things to pay attention to and Best practices to get the best results. Great job as usual. And if you are doing things with hand tools, you better have lots of patience, things dont happen fast with hand tools, but you get to learn the process much more in detail.

( hab mal an knochentrockener Buche getestet ).

The squiling noice will be louder if you have the working end more away from the vise, so just get it closer. For the chalk on a file here we do it to have a other effect. if you are done with filework, chalk the file up and file with light pressure. this will smoth the workpeace and save a lot of time and sandpaper. we call that process “schlichten“ . have a nice day greatz from Germany opo
