Hoi Felix, nice that you had Rocco with you... appreciate a lot. I also commented already at Roccos channel.... Very nice project indeed and very challenging. Your boat should be formstable not weight stable which it seemed to like 😉 because of the water inside. Yeah it was not an even form... Bulkheads try to keep the boat in an even shape and give the necessary stability. I don't know what to use for that, but maybe some boards, cut into the form instead of branches. Or if you cannot accomplish this use some sidearms which give the stability like the phillipino boats called banka. Just my humble opinion. All in it was a very nice video to watch.

Made me think of the episode with Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury, where they made a boat from a tree trunk. They put the 'boat'in the water, Cody went into it, and it immediately sunk. 😂👍 It's cool to show also not so succesful projects. A bit of fun never hurts.

As a Royal Canadian Navy Shipwright, I say well done! A bit to narrow to carry your weight without tipping, but i had that issue too when I built a boat without plans too. In Canada that tree is called a Balsam, and the natives used it in a similar style.

If you had soaked the bark in hot water you could have bent it with the smooth side on the outside making it a much more slicker aqua dynamic vessel. I guess there is a ratio for length to breadth for the optimum balance? Sitting/kneeling nearer the stern and using a single paddle like in a Canadian canoe it is easier to control. Ray Mears did a program building a Birch bark canoe which will show you how it is really done. Good effort though.

Fill the bottom with sand or soil for weight and stability. You might have to take the sand out after the sailing, so the boat can be brought on land for drying.

Wonderful project. 👍 The American Indians used to put two stones in the canoe, one in the front, the other in the rear, for balance. 🛶
