I don’t know if it was mentioned already but you can use it also for: 1. cleaning underneath the fingernails 2. open up split rings 3. remove small o-rings without damaging them

The toothpick is usefull for cleaning out crevises on things you dont want to scratch with a metal tool.Like the ports on a smartphone etc.

I use the toothpick every day.......as a toothpick, but it's always good to have tricks up your sleeve.

A personal trick with the toothpick of my Victorinox SAK : when a stitch of a pull-over or any knitwear had been pulled out, forming an ungainly loop, I use the toothpick as a hook, from the inside and through the garment, to pull the little loop inside and hide it.

I prided myself as knowing everything that a Swiss Army Knifes functions were. Until my daughter asked me what the "Hook "on her knife was for. Thank you for making the video of what it was for for now I am her Hero again. Love you videos. Very informative and interesting.

I've also noticed the toothpick is exactly 5cm tall, so you can turn it into a mini-measure tool. Here's how: 1) Take a ruler or a measure tape 2) Put the toothpick on it 3) Make a small cuts on the toothpick on each milimetre (or each 0.5cm if that's enough for you) 4) Paint the toothpick with a black permanent marker and wipe it gently with a cloth from top to bottom (or soak the cloth with a little alcohol if it dried off already) 5) The ink will stay in the cuts you've made. It's pretty useful for measuring small objects. It's also useful to know how long your pocket knife is, for larger measures that don't need to be too accurate - e.g. my victorinox rangegrip 57 is 13cm tall, so 4 of it's length is 52cm, 8 of its length is a little short of 1 meter etc. Very useful if you don't have a good eye for a measure estimation.

Honestly the most use I get from the toothpick is to get all the lint out from the joints on my SAK from riding in my pocket. I am able to get all the gunk out, then oil the joints and it feels like new again. Probably the single best way to maintain a SAK for years. Thank you for the videos and tips! All the best.

For the sewing needle, put the hole near the pointed end, like a sewing machine needle, and don't cut the end off. That way you can push thread through material, hold it and remove the toothpick, and re-thread it from the other side and push it through again. It's slow but does the job, and you still have an intact toothpick :)

Great tips. Being a carpenter the USB C port on my phone is always getting full of dust and the tooth pick works a treat to get the dust-out. Being plastic it doesn't do any damage to the connection.

I clicked to see the King of the SAK healthy and happy . The only thing I've ever used the toothpick on an SAK for was to defeat a pressure switch on a roadside IED / bomb while it was being dismantled . This is some great info using the toothpick to open blades and tools when my fingers are freezing cold . Try using the toothpick to open handcuffs . Just getting back into the SAK game after becoming an adult. I’ve had other multitools, but there is something about the timeless eligance of a SAK that just draws you in. Better for daily carry than a leatherman.

Trick #2 was mine! Lol. I paint each scale tool (Pen, tweezers, and toothpick) with white paint, allow to dry, then paint with yellow, orange, and green paints. Now I know which tool is which based on color, and as you said, they glow in the dark too, so you can find the SAK, or individual tools, in the dark. :)

i love the sewing needle idea! so a quick little story about an old Wenger(Tradesman, never knew what it was and had to do some searching last night to find out what exactly it was!) i got when i was around 7 or 8(i'm 37 now) for probably my birthday. i think i had it all of about 6 or 7 months and was playing outside with it and lost it... well just the other day my father was raking the garden(we only put it in a few years back and it's been tilled about 50-60 times he estimates) and low and behold he found it! it was packed with dirt!!! the little keychain is pretty rusted(i'm currently giving it a vinegar bath though could probably just replace it easy enough). but i spent a few hours last night literally scrubbing this thing down with a tooth brush and soap, had to carefully pop the scales off(which are a rather interesting design but look like they're designed to be replaced rather easily or removed for cleaning if needed as they snapped back into place with little effort!). i ran some scotch brite over everything to clean up a semi crusty layer of i'm not sure what and finished off with some spindle oil for our mill, but with all said and done there wasn't a speck of rust to be had anywhere on the tools and the only bit that's a little worse for wear is the aluminum spacers that have a little bit of pitting and the scales that obviously were rubbing against dirt for the last near 30 years! still has the tooth pick and tweezers too! all the tools still have their nice sharp factory edge including the scissors which are VERY sharp!!! i'll honestly say if anyone is looking for a knife to buy! buy a SAK! go right on ebay and pick up an old vintage one!!! you can find them for under $50 USD they will stand the test of time! i wouldn't buy anything else i don't care what gimmicky "alloys" they use on their blades! these things are like the AK-47 of the knife world!!!

The cable tie lockpick is brilliant. I use a Firefly striker as a replacement for my toothpick, but that was some knowledge, man.

I bought my partner her first pocket knife (the mountaineer) as she wanted it pick I was looking for pink scales and I stumbled across on eBay someone who uses a 3D printer to make them and you choose the colour and it has a charming cross where the emblem usually is, this you can also choose in a separate colour but always you can have the cross as a glow in the dark and it works great! You tip with the nail polish was brilliant and I thought I would share this with you aswell as my lovely fiancée in turn bought me a brand new knife and grey scales with the glow in the dark cross, they are quite the fancy looking pair

I have a mini (scissors on one side, blade and file on the other, toothpick and tweezers), and used the blade to make a pinprick on either side of my belt, and the file/awl to make a proper extra notch for it. It was a spur of the moment thing, and worked great! Even the little ones are good tools.

Thanks for another great tricks! I remember using toothpick to unzip a zip tie, but then I broke the tip and it turned out even worse 🤣. Also, one thing that showed up in my mind is to make a cut ended with a hole on the tip. It might be used to remove ticks if tweezers won't work. Stay healthy!

I like the faro rod fire starter steel striker tooth pick replacement sold for the Swiss Army knife as my first choice for a use in the tooth pick hole. My dad when I was a kid cut half the tooth pick off and melted a needle into the rest of the tooth pick using it as a handle. Here in India the concept of an EDC isn't too well known. My friends whom I've known for decades still give me that look of disapproval when they see me lug my 2006 Spartan and 2007 Classic SD. They feel it's stupid to carry a knife without realising that SAKs are more than just knives. Anyways, that doesn't deter me from buying them from time to time (they have gotten very expensive these days 😂) Keep sharing the wonderful knowledge to us lesser mortals! Thanks, Ash

The toothpick works best if it is replaced by the new FireFly, which is a firesteel to light up a fire. The FireFly has the same functionality (pull out the blades, glow in the dark...) but can also start a fire. As fire starter you can create your own Helix starters by using simple cotton, dip it in liquid wax (tea candle) and form a helix ring in the cork screwer. Works great! ☝😃👍

Felix, I LOVE, LOVE ,LOVE all your videos. I've been carrying a SAK of one kind or another since I was 11 years old and now I'm at the ripe age of 65 and you are able to continually show me many new ways I SHOULD have been using my knives as I grew up. I wish I knew how to say, "You're the man!" in Mundart. I recently watched a 2021 video where you were showing how to stitch with the punch/auger that has an eye in it. In that video you used a nail to open up the loop on the back side of your work piece, which is an additional component. Wouldn't the toothpick do the job equally well and would be something that is included on most SAKs?

My favorite way to store needle and thread like I do in my Victorinox Classic is store the needle between the tweezers and when the tweezers are in its slot the needle is held firmly in place then I wrap some thread around the toothpick and store it

My older brother bought a Champion SAK in South Africa in the 1960s. He gave it to me later when I turned 21. He said the Toothpick in it was made of Elephant Ivory...

Very interesting ideas. I use my toothpick sometimes when I am building a model. You can nudge a part very precisely into place. I have used mine for so many different things that I have actually forgotten. Of course, you can actually use it for a toothpick; if you want.

The toothpick also works surprisingly well as a very small shim I used mine a few weeks ago when my car broke down, a fuse had blown and I was able to use the toothpick to get a new fuse to stay by wedging my toothpick between it and the box (it was the right fuse amperage wise but the blades were to thin, that's what I get for ordering sketchy fuses from the dark side of eBay, the cheap Chinese stuff
