These are the scenes of my youth - I grew up and still live in N. Ireland. The army was everywhere, machine guns were a non-remarkable thing cos they were an every day sight. Bombs & bomb scares were so common that they became almost 'normal'......our so-called 'peace' is still very fragile. Thank you for reacting to this, and R.I.P. Dolores for giving us this song💔....it is part of our history and 'The Troubles'. It's message is overwhelming powerful.

Agreed! The song is totally overwhelming, and the video was inspired by the director taking the camera out onto the streets and just filming what they saw for a day and then working around that. I always feel that this is one of the finest examples of how great artists can create beauty from pain and darkness...

I can't begin to comprehend what it must have been like living through The Troubles. My experience of that time was from the eyes of a very young boy, and all via the news from the safety of my home in England. My late father in law was an Military Policeman in the British Army. So I guess that put him in the strange position of being hated by The Irish, and by the British soldiers he had to police. Even I find this song moving, What must it be like for those, like you, who really understand it from the heart!

I lived in England during those times and we looked on in horror. Every now and then a bombing such as Warrington occurred, and that brought it home once again how tragic and sickening the whole thing was. I cannot imagine what it was like for you. I hope you've managed to create a happy life in spite of the trauma of it all. Let's hope that the relative peace in NI can continue, and we can all learn to live together harmoniously. RIP Dolores.

Dolores and her family lived in Canada years ago and was a neighbour. My dad said he liked to listen to Dolores singing over the lake as she practiced and she would wave to you on her morning runs while she kept a keen eye out for bears. She didn’t ran into any as far as I know. 😊 She and my sister got pretty close because their kids were the same age. Truly a beautiful woman. Love you Dolores. 💕💕

As many have pointed out, this song is about Ireland. One reason Delores O'Riordan's voice is so distinctive is that she draws on a traditional Irish singing style called "keening." When her voice sort of flips into falsetto at the end of vowel sounds, that's one of its characteristics.
@Yaro79514
@Yaro79514 Жыл бұрын
I didn't know that even though I grew up with this song and I'm part Irish! Thx so much for that! Also, I knew 'keening' as a form of lament but didn't know it was also a style of singing, I suppose like wailing, this brings another dimension to the song!

Wow thanks for the info I didn’t know it was a traditional vocal style, every day is a school day…keening. Didn’t she do it brilliantly. The same emotion she related in the less well known “ New New York” about the twin towers. You will get the emotion there too far better than most. What a waste, all those lost in the troubles and Delores herself!❤

"Dreams and "Linger" should be next. Delores sang using an Irish Style called Keening. It's how Irish Women sing in mourning and in paying honour to those lost tragically. This song is very serious, dark and sad. There is no way to dance, bop or celebrate to this song once you understand what she's singing about. There was a bombing. It was done in such a way that people ran towards the danger after misleading calls were made to the authorities. A toddler out shopping with his sitter died. They bombed a shopping district at a busy time during a normal week day. It was awful. Religion and Politics over the safety of children.

The song was written in response to the death of Johnathan Ball, 3, and Tim Parry, 12, who had been killed in the IRA bombing in Warrington, northwest England, when two devices hidden in litter bins were detonated. Ball died at the scene of the bombing as a result of his shrapnel-inflicted injuries and, five days later, Parry lost his life as a result of fatal head injuries. 56 others were injured, some seriously. Parry died in his father's arms in Liverpool's Walton hospital. The two boys had gone shopping to buy Mother's Day cards on one of the town's busiest shopping streets.

It was intended to be a cover/duet style with Dolores (lead singer of the Cranberries) singing alongside them, but sadly she passed away days before they were meant to record the cover. Bad Wolves did a cover of this song that was amazing. I believe on the day of going her to go record her vocals for it she passed away, they still released it and done it justice.

Now that you've heard the original, you should watch/listen/react to "Bad Wolves" rendition of this, and the sad story behind their own version and the lead singer of the Cranberries, Deloris.

I’m so incredibly happy you did this song. This is one of, if not my favourite band of all time. Dolores O’Riordan has in my opinion the greatest voice in rock. When she died it was the first time I have cried over a musicians death. I would love to see you do more songs by The Cranberries in the future. RIP Dolores.

My first concert ever was The Cranberries concert in 1993. I remember it like yesterday as it was just before my freshman year of high school. I had a very frightening incident happen to me prior to this and it ramped up my depression. Going to their concert was such a great moment for me because I was able to let go and just enjoy their music. I still cannot believe Dolores is gone but I'm so grateful that I got to experience that because it did help get me through because it was just a few weeks before I was going to start high school of all things. RIP Dolores and thank you. 🙏🏻

This was redone by Bad Wolves. She’s supposed to do vocals on it but she passed away right before they’re able to do it together. Bad Wolves did it and sent all the proceeds from the song to her kids. If you get a chance check out there version of it also. R.I.P

Delores wrote this about some young kids getting killed by an IRA bomb on mainland UK at Warrington England. Difficult situation half the Irish want independence the other have wish to remain in the UK. I just wish we could all get on. Peace

This song is known and loved by pretty much everyone,, This was played at a strictly dance music festival not long after she passed away and it gave me goosebumps,, just the volume of the crowd and the unity of 60,000 people was something I'll never forget

Although this is a very well played and sung song, it's another ballad type that deals with the troubles in Ireland. These guitar 🎸 notes are box strumming with some vibration tossed in. The drumming is spot on, not too much, nor too little, but precise in every stroke. Listen how the base/bass guitar is playing really fast, but not destroying the beat.. This is a heck of a lot of music and well executed. The perfect hard rock song.

Song has a very special place in my heart. I was young, and so often you'd get bomb threats, or your town centre flattened by a nail bomb, and I just couldn't understand why the Irish wanted to kill us. This song made my 7 year old self realise that they didn't.

I almost got through this without crying. Almost. I don't know how anyone can hear a song desperately decrying war, senseless violence, massacres, and the murder of children, and NOT be emotional 😢

Hate breeds hate. The next generation raised without thinking why or a different solution - like Zombies. Now, I love the Cranberries and I always felt that her voice was like another instrument as she uses it to not just say lyrics.

This song is intense. And ironically, it’s even more intense when Dolores sings softly and with deep breaths. The weight of her expression is palpable. And the fact that her Irish accent really comes through shows how much she sings from her heart. It’s a an anti-war song that will always remain timeless. Three hundred years from now people will still listen to ‘Zombie’. RIP Dolores.

The Cranberries are awesome. This song is great. Please react to Linda Ronstadt next Friday or any day. She has the voice of an angel. She was the first female to sell out arenas. Her catalogue is extensive and spans forty years. I suggest “Long Long Time” or “Someone to Lay Down Beside Me”. Love your channel. 🥰
