I'm honestly surprised by how many people seem to think that female Stormtroopers were either made by Disney and/or to appease women. In Star Wars lore female Stormtroopers in the Galactic Empire have always been a thing, you usually just can't tell because Stormtrooper armor is unisex and - for the most part - covers up any feminine features. Usually their voice is what gives them away.

The original Imperial stormtroopers were all male because they were clones, and all clones were male because they were created from Jango Fett's DNA (except Omega in the Bad Batch who's female somehow). Later, however, the Empire recruited ordinary citizens to its military, and so there were both male and female stormtroopers. For the First Order, their stormtroopers were children from occupied worlds that were kidnapped at a very young age and raised as soldiers, so they could be either male or female. It didn't really matter, so long as they followed orders.

The empire's female stormtroopers were rarely seen.Their was a female tie pilot cadet in the background and a female death trooper both appeared in rebels. Also the empire's female stormtroopers in appeared in comics.

Thanks to Bad Batch we now know that female Stormtroopers have been a thing since the first non-clone soldiers in the Empire. Connected fact, the one from Crosshair's group that survives later becomes a Death Trooper.

I see many people don't understand this about Stormtroopers. You are NOT supposed to see them as male or female. As a stormtrooper or most common imperial troopers, you are not special, your looks represent the Galatic Empire, the Empire desires no unit to stand out like in an independent way, they are all equally the same, they are all equally the face of the Empire, the stormtrooper area supposed to represent uniformity, order, and fear. Each stormtrooper is basically the same in looks with no real deviation. This gives a sense or uniformity and order, the Empire is not some clobbered up mess to instill peace and order, it IS order, in addition, personal touches to ones armor reduces the professional look and fear look. The stormtrooper armor design is supposed to inflict fear, you are not supposed to think, "oh look a female trooper, oh look a male trooper" no the first thoughts should be fear and order, all are to be thought of as the same, as feared imperial troopers or a loyal brave troopers (Depends which side you on for negative or positive). Plus no custom armor jobs maintains this fear factor, children like clones more, especially any with color and designs as it's makes them seem human and more friendly. Stormtroopers are just white (or simple color is different variant) in most people's eyes, they are not humans, they are the mass of soldiers for the imperial army, they are the Empire. The point of the armor designs it's to inflict uniformity, order, and fear, not individuality. They represent the Empire, not themselves, there is no place is having them being seen as male or female but instead as Imperial Stormtroopers. Same applies to the first order but both methods of getting the people are different. Being most Imperial unitd, the Empire does not care for your uniqueness, your want to look different and standout from others, you are not supposed to represent yourself, but instead the Empire.

There's always been female stormtroopers. You're probably thinking of clone troopers, which until recently have all been near genetic clones of Jango Fett (a dude). Omega from bad batch is the only exception for reasons not totally explained yet.

I've always wondered, how do the Stormtroopers bend down, or to the side if they don a rigid body armor that cover the entire torso? Usually the upper body armors are made from several pieces that move, if we are talking about a tight armor (the actual areas where the armor pieces protect the body are very limited). In reality, soldiers (marines) wear a very larger armor that helps them to move freely. So I don't really know how it works in the Star Wars franchise.

The Empire used female Stormtroopers, too. It was simply hard to tell unless they spoke. The main reason why we hardly saw Imperial female Stormtroopers was because there were certain physical requirements needed to join the Imperial Army. I think five percent of women who signed up actually met these requirements, but there were a few exceptions to the rule. The First Order simply didn’t care. If you were effective in combat, you were in.

Yeah female stormtroopers are not anything new. They had been in canon for a very long time. You just could not tell them apart from the males due to the empires policy's.
