Project Granja Caimito

Күн бұрын

This video is part of an ongoing series - like a vlog - about our project aiming to RESTORE soil fertility in Valle de los Pedroches in Andalusia, Spain.
We are located in a landscape called Dehesa in Spanish. It is like an oak savanna and is said to be very biodiverse. However, much of it has been overgrazed and the yearly drought of 6 months with NO RAIN makes recovery difficult. Many good practices from other climate zones with frequent rainfall DO NOT WORK here and have contributed to the bad situation in the past.
First and foremost we are restoring soil fertility and DO NOT AIM to deliver a product into any market at this time. We are not doing agriculture or ranching in order to produce something and turn a profit. We see PROFITABILITY as an OUTCOME that will emerge ONCE we have restored the land.
Learn more about our project at: www.caimito.eu You might also visit our shop there to support this project.
If you want to know more who is behind this project: www.stephan-sc...
Locations in this video might be referred to using a designator. A custom map allows you to better follow along: www.google.com...
Some simple guidelines for commenting:
- Questions are far more helpful to other viewers than suggestions
- You are watching past events and we might have solved issues or moved on already
- Most people live in temperate climate zones with ample rainfall and good agricultural practices from there might not apply on our land.
- You are watching us learning and we all want to enjoy the journey and knowledge acquisition. Please refrain from telling us how something has to be done as your situation most certainly is vastly different than ours.
- Understand that culture, rules and regulations vary around the world. Be respectful when speaking about the people you see in the video.

I find your videos to be so encouraging. Values, intelligence, understanding, work (V.I.U.W., I guess..) applied in the management of natural processes. Thank you.

I was actually very surprised to see one show up. There is also a LOT more birds in the farmyard. All a good sign

Happy to hear you've begun night-time irrigation, at least for MIYAWAKI. And thank you for reminding viewers that you DO plan on getting battery-power for more night irrigation.

It depends solely on excess power. If there is, sure we use it

Just some advice: open and close your valves slower. It keeps the hoses from developing weak places, saves the pump from destroying itself or connections to come loose. You should “ feel” the flow of the water go more evenly.

I'm the old guy at 77 from Canada, I, like you, do not like the word 'just'. when others try to help they say well, if you 'JUST do this or that, you will solve your predicament, when they do not know anything about my problem. love what you've done with the place. I've been watching since you were growing very large rocks...........cheers.

Hello, I believe a weed eater with blades might be more suitable for the dry grass and sticks and twigs. This also saves you time and nerves trying to untangle the cutting string. Also, I think a scythe (ja, eine altmodische Sense) could be very helpful to cut a few square metres here and there. It is silent, it operates right away and it is almost impossible to destroy. Of course it is not a tool anyone wants to use for big projects and during the day, but it is perfect for when you walk the perimeter in the early hours and you see something that you would like to take care of right away without having to go back. Oh and it doesn’t cost a lot. Bellota is a Spanish brand that makes decent scythes, I believe. This is just „food for thought“ and you make the final decision, best for your situation.

Yes, it is good practice to irrigate over night, since plants take it better, there is less evaporation... many benefits. One possible solution I see is during day when you have lot if sun power you can pump water to higher elevation pond, then during night you don't need to pump water, gravity will do the job. Just need power to turn on or off woblers...
@wimpie031
@wimpie031 2 ай бұрын
Gravity will probably not give the wobbles enough power to “wobble”, unless the water comes from very very high.
@ProjectGranjaCaimito
@ProjectGranjaCaimito 2 ай бұрын
The wobbler with the least requirements in terms of pressure and flow wants 279 liters/hour to throw the water 10 meters far. Gravity fed systems are great for drip irrigation in a small garden with the water tower right there. Once you build a system for a field you quickly learn about all kinds of limitations. Ask me how I know :-)

I have a shelter where I keep chickens at night, it has an automated door and the chickens rarely lay outside (well below 10% of egg volume) so I wouldn't necessarily feel like locking them up until the early PM is optimal.
@ProjectGranjaCaimito
@ProjectGranjaCaimito 2 ай бұрын
Right. In any case future shelters with nesting boxes will be mobile and remotely controlled and so all these things can be worked out for the hens we are going to have. It's high on the todo list but first we do need a proper workshop which comes first

Do you know about living willow fences? They could maybe solve some fencing problems while also stabilising the soil over time, by growing a dense root network.

i appreciate your software knowledge and hardware solutions , how will the cables and electronic devices react in case of lightnings or atmospheric electrostatic chargedistributions (Elmsfeuer) , is there a way to protect this precious equipment from heavy wind + thunderstorms ? which frequencies of electronic devices interact with which insects ? Dr Dietrich Klinghardt might have mentioned some effects of electromagnetic radiation.

@@chriss.9060 Flowing current(lightnings incl.) make elmag field around, and conductors inside that field induct el. current into them. There are overvoltages protections, or lightning conductors/earthers. Chances are low, but if that gate wifi hotspot get direct strike, its dead. It can be protected to put some conductor above it, ground it, and place far enough, so nothing is inducted into it.
