Honestly, this is the Fender Amp I'd buy if I was looking for a grab and go. It's got the perfect amount of power and actually has a great sounding tremolo circuit. Pedals sound great thru it and it won't break your back.

If you're looking at the amp and comparing it to the deluxe reverb, One of the biggest things that this thing has that the deluxe reverb doesn't is... a middle EQ adjustment, whereas the deluxe reverb only has bass and treble. big heads up on that
@TheRealCowlick
@TheRealCowlick 2 ай бұрын
It‘s so underrated how important the middle band actually is for shaping different tones through a fender amp… You could cut back on the highs and lows on a princeton to „boost“ the mids in relation to the rest of the frequencies but it doesn’t really sound the same.

I must say, I've scoured the internet for a while now, and I can confidently say that this is the most thorough and informative review of Fender amps that I've come across. As a musician who often performs on loud stages, it's essential for me to find an amp with enough headroom to preserve the clarity of clean tones. After watching this review, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to make an informed decision :)

I had a 2x12 Pro Reverb years ago which was 40 watts and it was fantastic. I likened it as the cross between the Twin and Deluxe and preferred it to both. Even with 2 12" speakers, it was much lighter than a Twin. I've regreted selling it. It's probably the single most under-rated of Fender's classic amps. And to be fair to that Peavey, that was someone having way too much time on their hands. It wasn't that ugly out of the factory.

Small( tube) head / cab combos are the way to go; eliminates the noise, and offers more options you can adjust according to volume needs.Better portability.At low volume, use 1- "10; @ high, 2- "12' s,or 1-"15, - etc.(Some amps offer more matching options than others.) The Fender combos are classic formats for a reason, but there are functional limitations. Speakers/ cab designs also can dramatically change the sound of the given amp; you just have to be clever and careful how you match/ wire them.Oddly, it's a whole area that you rarely see discussed.

@markferguson3745
@markferguson3745 6 ай бұрын
@@narcoticlove Several, yes.Not only by Fender, but also other's utilizing the same circuit.The Princeton's have been available for a while , but then you can Google these as easily as I can.It's worth making the effort to do the research. The speaker can entirely change the character of an amp, and there is no comparison between combo cabs and separates.The only upside I see to combos is marketing to those with little knowledge or curiosity.

This amp replaced my old twin like a year ago, I bought one from 2021 I think. It reminds me of my old 135 watt bassman head which also had the mids knob (minus the trem and reverb ofc). If you want fender cleans there is arguably nothing cleaner. They are still oddly affordable here in Scandinavia when compared to other vintage fender amps too. Peace

One modification I did to give me more clean head room in my ‘75 Twin Reverb was to install Celestion G12T-100’s. I cannot make these speakers distort even with my amp turned all the way up. This is a modification I’d consider if I purchase a Custom Pro Reverb.

The original 2x12 Pro Reverb is maybe the best amp Fender ever produced. I was disappointed Fender didn’t reissue it as originally spec’d. Hopefully it doesn’t have the ridiculous noise floor issues found in the 68 custom deluxe reverb.

Did you fix the buzz/rattle? They sell dB meters and mechanics stethescopes to pinpoint where the noise is coming from...or build a small tube, like 4" PVC pipe and one of your mics and take measurements around the back of the box- look for spikes.

I agree that this amp is amazing. But outside of maybe the slight difference in weight, I just can’t see why you wouldn’t just get an original silverface Pro Reverb when they cost even less than the reissue ones! I’m not taking about the ultra-liner, late 70’s 70 watt ones. I’m talking about the early 70’s ones. You get 2 12’s instead of one. You get a bigger cab. You get a handwired amp that is much easier to work on. Those original non-ultra linear Pro Reverbs are some of the greatest amps ever made- and you can get them for less than these reissues! Unless you specifically want a 1x12” one, I just can’t personally see justification for getting the reissue over vintage in this case. That being said, these reissues are great! I would just get an original.

I love fender amps, this one however has some weird compressed harsh-/shrill-ness going on in the higher registry that IMHO is n o t the sweet highs I love about other Fenders. I was recommended it by a friend and played one several times at my local guitar dealer's amp room, tweaked & tweaked to no avail, then borrowed my friends amp over the Christmas holidays.. I do have other good things to say about it, but those highs are a deal breaker for me.. I think it might be the magnet.. don't know.

It sounds good but I've seen the printed circuit boards and components inside these new "vintage looking" Fender "'68 drip edge" semi-reissue amps and they're not great. Techs understandably aren't crazy about working on them and it's not something that's going to last a lifetime. On top of that, at *$1,400* there's just *no* real value in it. There are just WAY too many builders selling *excellent,* point to point handwired amps. Amps that sound incredible, are easy to repair, easy to modify and will certainly last a lifetime and beyond. Same as an original handwired 1960's Fenders. If I knew someone that was going spring $1,400 to buy one of these, I'd strongly reccomend against it. There are some incredible handwired amps you can find used for the same money. Shit, if you look hard enough you can find an ORIGINAL 2x12 blackface or drip edge Pro Reverb (which again, are hand wired and repairable forever) from the 60's for +/- $1,500. *Seriously!* I've seen, *recently,* an original 1968 drip edge Pro Reverb sell on Craigslist for $1,000 and besides new filter caps (something that should be replaced every 10 to 15 years) and a replacement output transformer was totally original and CLEAN. You can get early 1970's silverface Fender amps, hardwired of course, like Bandmaster's, Showman, Bassman, Twins etc for as much or hundreds less than this printed circuit board "68 Custom Pro Reverb." Or, get yourself something like a Carr Sportsman or any of the 30 to 50 watt offering from the *DOZENS* of builders making bulletproof handwired amps. Don't play yourself with a cheaply made, thin plastic printed circuit board Fender with less than desirable components. I could see if it was $600, maybe $700 but $1,400??? You're *BUGGING.* Too much high quality stuff out there to go that way.

I don’t think you’re giving enough credit to the amps OR techs. There is nothing inherent in a PCB amp that causes it to self-destruct after a set period of time. Any tech worth their salt could handle a repair if needed.. I say this as someone who has worked on a 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb (modded the NFB for more headroom). The tube sockets are even handwired off board and not attached to a PCB, which is a HUGE improvement from other Fender models like the Blues Jr., Bassbreaker Series, Hot Rod Deluxe, et al. If you want to make a case for vintage amps, that’s cool. They definitely rock and some can be had at extremely affordable prices. But this amp isn’t meant to be a vintage reissue, and that should be obvious. Also, resale on these usually puts them into a fair price range - so they won’t be any sort of competition for even the least popular vintage units.

The irony of people griping about printed circuit boards by typing something online isn’t lost on me. To anyone who may be put off on this amp due to the above post, rest assured it’s bunk. Notice how the poster gives no indication that they have any first hand experience with this amp. I own this amp, and have personally built “hand wired” amps. If you aren’t servicing your own amp, and 99% of guitarists don’t, then hand wired vs. pcb makes no difference to you. You can’t hear the difference and I can assure you electrons don’t give a crap if they travel through metal traces on a pcb or metal leads on point to point components. That’s all hogwash perpetrated by guitarists who spend more time “talking gear” online than playing or making music. This is an excellent amp for all the reasons Eric spells out. Take it from him, and others that have first hand experience with this amp.

I agree. I have one of those 68 Custom Deluxe Reverbs and it’s a piece of trash. It’s a hiss hum & buzz special and a look inside to find out why is scary. I just scored a ‘66 Pro Reverb in beautiful condition for $1600. Already serviced with caps & 3 prong cord.
