Nice Comparison. My 2 favorite Basses. I love em both. I recently purchased a Sterling Stingray short-scale and I am so impressed with the fit, finish, sound & playability = Killer little Bass! Someone needs to make a 32" Med Scale Jazz Bass. oNe LovE from NYC

Very informative comparison. listening to it clean- i prefer the j-bass, but in the mix it sounds to me like two different personas, each with its own unique flavour

And... you can mix them, I use mostly neck one, somewhat about 70% neck and 30% bridge

The stingray cut through the mix better than the JB I think. The tone is very different, both sounds great to me. I think the stingray manage better the low B string than the JB. Just my opinion. Thank you for this great comparison.

These instruments are very different, I prefer the MM for that Spank , snap Funk machine it’s known for. Great Video! Forgot to give you props! For anyone trying to decide between the two, this video shows what they bother can do, the Jazz bass is also awesome, thank for This brother! 🙏

Personally I prefer the Stingray. The Jazz is easily as versatile. Honestly it is low-mids vs high-mids, at least the way I see it.

I'm listening to the video through an external sound system, not a phone, and the Bassilicious Music Man is Blatting Out like Crazy on the B string. Sounds like its 18 volt preamp is overdriving the amp you're plugged into. What amp might that be? ✌ Thanks for the Video....Nicely Done...🎶

Both are outstanding instruments, and there were moments I found myself going both ways. But in terms of "big picture overall", I think I favor the J. This video was all A/B comparisons in exact circumstances, which 99.99999% of the time is exactly the kind of comparison I want (and one we get too little of on KZfaq). But since the [quote unquote] "default sound" of the MM is bridge-only, and the [quote unquote] "default sound" of the J is both pickups, I wish this would've included a direct comparison of those two sounds. I don't think it'd have changed my verdict - indeed, if anything, I think it would've likely only even further strengthened it. But it'd still have been cool to hear. Nevertheless, solid video on balance! Thanks for the upload!

This Fender is great in 4 string version. Fender's B string cannot be compared to MM Stingrays. MM humbuckers are just more suitable for 5 string ....., and the consistently built quality makes them superior to Fenders anytime.

Jazz Bass for its tone, versatility and customization. Not a fan of how buzzy and nasally the Stingray is. And in slap, the Jazz Bass destroys the Stingray.

The Jazz has 5 pickup settings, the Ray HH has 5. The Ray with the outer coils engaged sounds like a Rickenbacker mixed with a jazz bass; a very nice slap tone that is slightly deeper sounding.

Love them both and have owned both in 4 string variations, however, Fender usually sits better in a mix, live and studio. Not sure always why but that’s mho.

I love your finger style tone mate! Both basses sound sick but I prefer fender. Tone versatility is unbeatable and the slap tone blows stingray out off the water! Stingray slaps sounds to harsh and aggressive to my taste. Fender all the way :)

It’s funny because without the music the Stingray catches my ears more however once the music starts, the Jazz wins hands down in my opinion.

Всё-таки fender больше для джазовой и попсовой игры, он обладает мягким, бархатным звуком, у musicman звук более резкий, шикарно подходит от фанка до метала. я попсовик, больше нравится fender.

Thank you! Very informative review. Jazzbass ash or alder? Stingray has a more readable lower end of the range. Perhaps if JazzBass had an active preamp, they would be on an equal footing in this case. I agree with another comment below that slap on Stingray sounds a bit synthetic compared to Jazzbass. In all other respects, JazzBass is closer to me ..... and these two. It's a pity the five-string Precision is missing here. Although, I believe, his fifth will be completely wadded.

@@pertybass I assumed that it was ash, since basses with alder bodies were not produced in a natural finish, but since I did not consider the grain pattern, I decided to clarify. But active electronics surprised. Somewhat loosely lower B sounds on Jazz bass. And that's the only thing I didn't like about it.

My style of playing has been described as Greg Lake meets Lemmy with a touch of Steve Howe and Brian May. My right hand is a registered WMD. So I think a Stingray (lives up to its name) is the better fit. Never play nice with others🔥😈🔥
