I live on the Big island in Hawaii where the majority of Koa is grown and harvested. What Lee said is mostly true, although I believe the state does allow some trees to be cut down in specific circumstances. Most of it is deadfall and occurs on state land (it grows higher elevation, typically). Good friend of mines father has a contract to harvest the wood and gets to keep what he harvests. I also believe if the Koa is on your own land you can cut it down and use it for whatever you want. I know Bob Taylor just bought a large track of land very close to where I live to plant sustainably grown Koa as a future source of guitar timber... Gave me even more respect for Taylor guitars because that wood will never directly benefit Bob in his lifetime...Lee if you and the guys want to come out to Hawaii we will set you up in a great house on the water :)

Well, you can't expect Fender to just give away guitars made out of exotic woods like these three, especially considering how uncommon koa is as a timber in anything. If you don't have the scratch for one, don't poo poo it for others that do and can buy them, just buy the standard one and enjoy that one.

They should make a two pickup version with two 3 way switches. 1 which switches between the single coil pickups and a second which is pezio/mix/pickups. That would make these increadibly versitile. It would allow a standard tone control and be immediately more understandable for most guitarists. For even more control switch to stacked pots so you can have one volume/tone section for the pickups and a seperate set for the pizio.

@Andertons Music Co I love Lee's idea that Vince Gill would be the guy to use this. With his WIDE collection of acoustics and his preference for playing a telecaster as his electric of choice, this really would be his perfect guitar, but he's one of the bigger purists and probably wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft. pole. But Lee IS right. it's perfect for a player of that chickin' pickin' style to go back and forth between multiple acoustic and tele sounds.

Also, the Bourbon Burst color was really not as nice looking in person. I ended up just getting a Mint condition Koa Acoustasonic Tele from Reverb yesterday because I realized that with these guitars the “tonal woods” are all BS. @@chrisdobz4468 Thanks for your reply. I ended up getting the Mexican Brushed Black Tele and it is indeed very lovely looking. I really like how it plays, and even unplugged, it's a joy to play... quite indescribable in fact. The way it resonates and vibrates allows for an "acoustic" approach to playing, but the neck experience is more like an electric (even though my particular guitar's action is set a little bit higher that that of my Epiphone ES339, Gibson Midtown Standard and even Gibson J45 - I think I'll lower it just a tad). All in all, a truly pleasant and lightweight instrument with stellar plugged-in acoustic tones. I'm over-the-moon happy.

@@urbansoban2669 that’s the way to go with these Acoustasonic guitars. Get whatever version/color you like and can afford and you won’t be disappointed. They are worth nowhere near $2000 US in any way, shape, or form. It's an experiment and it's likely doomed to fail because of the price Fender put on them. No shot. This is a big boy guitar with killer electronics. I’ll be looking for a used one in a couple of years.

@@JROD082384 I think you missed my point. As far as this concept goes, as alluded to in the video, it is an excellent tool for swapping between acoustic and electric tones for a live instrument. the woods used here are nice, but essentially bling. They are even of less importance sonically with this, than even a standard electric guitar. So my point stands. For my use, and, I suspect many others, a cheaper workhorse guitar that enables you to get several completely different tones at the turn of a switch onstage would far outweigh the cost of a pretty wooden top.

White limba, black limba etc is just another name for Korina. Limba might actually be the correct name but I'm guessing there's several options like with many species

I struggle to believe they are that popular and never see them in the media circuit except on reviews. I suspect there really isn't anything other guitars cant do better individually at considerably less cost combined.

I was informed in my post that Jack White is using them. I Googled and sure enough he is. That could help sales.
