Thank you!!! You’re one of the only people I’ve ever seen mention eliminating the two prong cord !!!! I’m with you, I will never work on an amplifier that has a two prong cord. I don’t care if it’s the holy Grail it’s getting a grounded plug.

Nice job, especially on the heater twisted pair. I have a 66 blackface on the bench that I'm troubleshooting. But I'm going to hold off on an advance improvement like that until i have all the basics straightened out (we never heard a working version before this change to know what improvement it made). The cathode bias cap on the 6V6 in mine is also shot, so I'm not doing anything fancy until that is addressed, along with a new CE can filter. (there's a 4 x20uF version that gives you an option to add an extra stage or double up if noise is an issue)

I believe if you would use some good gel flux (Amtech) when lifting those tabs, it would greatly cut down on the effort you're having to use. Also, even though your Weller might be high wattage, the tip is way too small for the area you're trying to de-solder.

I think the (non-original) chiclet coupler is leaking some DC. Over 1volt measured, which would likely be higher if you lift the output side for a full test.

Indeed! I shared your concern and lifted it from the juction of the 220K resistor to ground and the grid of the power tube and got the same 1V result. Thanks for pointing that out as a best practice, I wish I would have included that in this video.

Nice job, especially on the heater twisted pair . But Yeah those chassis grounds are tough, the chassis is a giant heat sink; didnt seem to take him too long though. ( I have the similar amp on the bench - 66 blackface) I just bought the Weller 80w iron for stained glass. still took a long time, but I cleaned off all the old solder. For the 3 prong green/ground I used the hole in the chassis where the death cap was mounted on mine , instead of using the transformer bolt ( why not now that I can put on a big blob of solder with the bigass soldering iron) . I put the black/hot wire (not the white neutral) straight to the fuse tip (seems safer that way)
