And the cycle continues. Just imagine for a moment that the drunk driver had something tragic happen to him 20 years before he kiled Troy's child. The drunk driver could've been in intense emotional pain for years and years before his car collided with Troy's family members. Troy put the drunk out of his misery, and Troy unknowingly picked up the burden himself. Maybe Troy will seriously hurt someone someday, while he's living the drug life. Maybe the cycle of grief, pain, and suffering will continue?

I love how he said: It’s when people start saying, “I would have done the same thing,” that I think it wasn’t such e great idea. Because when somebody dies, there’s no way you can ever bring them back. It’s like…he’s done what he did and he can’t change it now. But the idea that his crime might influence someone else to take a life is troubling. That shows he’s got a conscience.

I’m torn. I never unalived someone, but I took Justice in my own hands when someone I knew hurt a young family member of mine. I ruined this person’s life forever, which consequently hurt their family’s lives. But I made sure this person would think twice before they hurt another child, and they’d never forget the consequences of hurting a child, and their body will never be the same. I like to believe I did a service to the community by doing what I did, even though I hurt people by doing what I did. I feel some guilt, but I can’t say I wouldn’t have done it any differently if given a second chance. I get why Troy did it. I understand his guilt. But, It’s possible he saved lives by taking his.

Some leaves get hung up on a rock for awhile eventually the water currents flow ideally to free up the leaf and the leaf continues down the stream.... Some leaves however get caught in a violent current thwarted downward and are trapped under a boulder under the current never to be released to continue their path downstream..... While I'm empathetic to this man's story, he's wrong about the child safety seats. Those were absolutely required well before 1991. We couldn't take our first baby home until hospital staff confirmed that we had a correctly installed child safety seat in the back seat of our car in 1987. Holding a baby while riding in a car is not only extremely dangerous, but against the law. The family's negligence may have contributed to the drunk driver getting only probation.

@@baublesanddolls I feel empathy for him but I'm not sure I'd describe someone who "emptied the clip in his head " as "gentle". His side jobs were "modifying guns" and "dealing drugs". As someone who lost my best friend to drugs recently I have issues with the dealers, even although I know the main issue is within. I liked his honesty and respect him for it, I'm not as sure as others here seem to be that he's a blameless victim in all this though. You know what you did was wrong and you paid the price. No need for you to continue to choose to live in hell. You're not doing anyone any good by punishing yourself. You can use what you've been through to help someone make better choices if you're free from the prison you choose to live in. You could help stop someone from destroying their life. What a tragic story. This is a prime example of how other peoples actions can fundamentally change your life. If that drunk driver doesn’t drink and drive that day, then we don’t have this interview. This man seems extremely self aware. It’s understandable to struggle with forgiving the driver when he never showed remorse. I find it hard to believe that any significant amount of people would do the same thing he did. Most lack the courage of their convictions. I pray this man finds peace.

I gave birth to my son in 1989. We bought him an infant car seat...the type that can be removed from the base and you carry your baby in the seating portion...has the handle over the baby (looks like a basket handle) which makes going in and out of locations easy. As he grew, we purchased toddler seats that fit his height and weight. He eventually went into a child's booster seat. ALL of these child safety seats tethered to the car seat (strong belts and not easy to remove!). So Troy stating (timestamp 3:30) that back in 1991 that is was a "common thing" for people to sit with their babies in their laps in cars...I'm sorry, this is *not* true. I do not know anyone that did this in 1989 nor 1991 for that matter. My sister and I grew up in the 60s...so Yes, mothers did that back then, and maybe into the 70s (I wasn't paying attention), but child safety laws regarding secure seating in cars has always been evolving. Child safety seats were law BEFORE I had my baby. There is ample information on the internet regarding the timeline of how & when child safety seats became law. Unfortunately and IMHO, there was a lack of funds for Troy and his wife to buy a child's car seat. This also tells me that information like this would hurt their court case.. I am not saying a drunk driver is correct. I personally despise alcoholism and all the devastation that results from it. I'm guessing that the (paid for) defense attorney proved negligence with Troy and his wife. Proof of insurance, speeding, child safety...all gets exposed in cases like this. I'd have to read the court records to be sure, which are public. But as a new mother during that same time period...parts of the story are omitted or vague at best. A baby passed, God Bless him, RIP. No matter how it happened, it is very sad and I am so sorry for Troy's loss. He seems very nice and deals with regrets. I send my best wishes.

Likewise. I had my son in the 90’s and there absolutely were child safety seat laws in effect in fact . When I had my daughter in the middle 80’s there were laws on the books back then about having cars seats . They differed from the time I had my daughter and son but in both eras there definitely were child restraint seats in effect so that comment took me off guard. Now when I was growing up there were no such laws in effect. Still loosing his son has destroyed his family regardless. It’s easy to blame but what’s the point? For him . That single day . Destroyed him .

Yes I thought this too when he said that. I was born in 1981 and my parents had me solely in car seats as a baby and in the back till I was about 8 years old. Their baby may have survived if they didn’t have the child in their lap in the front seat. I’m sure this hurt his case against the sentence for the drunk driver.

@@nicolesawyer7117 I agree. If an adult in the passenger's seat ends up catapulting through the windshield and ends up on the hood of the car---no seatbelt, no airbag deployment. Mark, thank you for giving a voice to heart ache, tragedy, souls that have become lost, the addicted etc. I have to believe that what you do is a piece and part of the solution. A story of two killers…. 1st one gets in his car pissy drunk and hits a car forever changing the family in side, killing one and seriously injuring the others. He shows no remorse, blames the victims, continues right on with his drinking and driving lifestyle and therefore is very likely to kill again. He get sentenced to probation for his homicide. 2nd one the court failed to get justice for is part of the family forever changed by the 1st ones actions. He kills the 1st one who is still drinking and driving after killing his son and giving his mother traumatic brain injury. Possibly even saving future victims of the 1st one who is clearly demonstrating he is very likely to kill again. This man is remorseful and not at all likely to kill again He gets sentenced to 15 years in prison for his homicide. Blind Lady Justice’s scale is off balance. If her scale is off then remove her blindfold because she shouldn’t be the only one who can’t see this is wrong.

as wrong as drunk driving is, the drunk driver didnt go to their house, knock on the door, and empty an entire clip into their babys head. That, combined with the kid sitting in the lap and having drugs on them theirselves (possibly under the influence themselves, but very poor judgement at the very least) is the difference in the 2 cases. Plus according to him (if his whole murder story is even true) he only did 7 years because he took some test the fbi gave him? lol. 7 years is a slap on the wrist for a premeditated murder like that, but i dont even believe his story about killing and said all that to make some way to explain only doing 7 years for murder, nor ever mentioning anything about what happened with his accomplice.
