A wife and mother-in-law share their story of losing their 29-year-old loved one to fentanyl poisoning, as well as some criticism of the Abilene Police Department's handling of the case. Illicit fentanyl is a dangerous, life-threatening drug frequently found in other illicit drugs and results in the death of 200 people per day in the US. This is just one of those stories and delivers an urgent warning to avoid all illicit drugs.
Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.

Billy was prescribed painkillers for all of those 32 surgeries he had since he was 15, no doubt. His wife said that she has been, and is currently taking Xanax. You can see this in her eyes and the slow speech pattern. What a sad, sad story, and then Fentanyl. God bless the wife and mother in law.

@HeatherGray93 you're a beautiful young woman. Keep your head up. You have 2 daughters to take care of.. make sure the next man you bring is clean sober and does not drink. You should think about becoming a motivational speaker. You need to move on from Having pictures of you and him together, he chose not to be. It's just like a break up.

@@mrbob8618 What kinda bs is this comment? She should remove pictures of her husband then comparing him DYING to a normal break-up? No matter how he died, she’s still a widow. She still loves him. He was her husband & the father of her children yet here you are telling her to forget about him & move on. You can’t tell her how to feel & grieve. What is wrong with you?!

Same. My son died of an overdose two months ago. He did not care about anything else. It’s an obsession. I just wish I knew how to reach him. They have no idea how much hurt they cause while they’re alive and after they’ve died. Addiction is a destructive force that destroys all it touches.

I've been clean 4yrs. It is all addicts care about but don't think they don't wish it away every second of every day. It's literally hell on earth. Everyone has a story. No addict woke up one day and thought to themselves I'm gonna become an addict today. It just happens and some make it out while others don't unfortunately.

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost a son 2 months ago to addiction. They believe it was fentanyl but we won’t know till the toxicology report comes back. I was lucky that in NY, they picked up the drugs when they picked up my son’s body. The detective assigned to my son’s case has been a saint. They’re still working the case. Addiction is mental illness. He had no control whatsoever. No matter what you did, he was going to use. Sadly, I know this truth from my own experience. You’re a strong woman, thank god for that.

You probably know this already, but there has been a lot of fentanyl-laced Xanax and fake Xanax that is really fentanyl, on the streets. I’m in long term recovery and in the recovery field. Often, dealers don’t even know what’s in the bars, because they’re made overseas. Do you know where you can get Narcan, to keep around? I’m glad you found this channel and hope you have lots of support. Prayers for you and your husband. It’s nobody’s fault! Addiction does not discriminate.

Not one of these stories have been about someone seeking fentanyl. They were seeking opioids or in this case xanax. I'm not saying we dont have a fentanyl crisis, but it's ONLY because we have an opioid crisis. And that's just sad to know that so many people are dependent on pills.

And why is it that we think “recreational” drug use is normal behavior? Alcohol kills thousands every year. Drugs kill thousands every year. Cigarettes kill thousands every year. Why are we okay with this. “Everyone” is not doing it, but people say it. Imagine how many people would still be alive today were it not for that one more high! It’s okay, because “everyone” does it. I’ve been on opioids and Fentanyl since 1992 because of my chronic, severe pain in my bones, muscles and nerves. The Gulf War injuries, 7x cancer survivor, 10% survival rate on my first diagnosis of stage four squamous cell carcinoma, massive amounts of radiation treatments and numerous surgeries and more radiation implanted into my tongue and neck. Several times my Fentanyl pain patches dosed too much because of overheating and that’s why I always have Naloxone (Narcan) in my possession and my friends and family know what to do to save me. When my previous VA doctor would “FORGET” to submit my monthly Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, Gabapentin (Neurontin), etc. to the pharmacy, I’d suffer from withdrawals and just want to die from the extreme pain levels. He forgot about 9 months out of 12 months each year. He simply didn’t care. So, I have a fair idea what drug addicts go through in order to chase that “wonderful high” they must have. I’ve never been high in my life and cannot understand why “EVERYONE” does it. I guess I’m just not “NORMAL!” I love the fact that these videos exist, because I don’t want children/teens/young adults to believe that it’s “NORMAL” and that it’s okay, because “EVERYONE” is doing it. Sure, I get some hate for comments I make, because I’m a pragmatic person and people who lack common sense, sound judgement and good morales call me “JUDGMENTAL.” I certainly don’t pass judgement on others, but at times people get their feelings hurt and I simply can’t and don’t control anyone’s feelings. I control only my own feelings.I sincerely appreciate your videos and I’m convinced that lives have been changed/saved as a result of the videos. I wish that the changes brought about were multiplied exponentially. Thanks for listening.

I have probably watched every single one of these stories and although each one touched me greatly, this one impacted me so much more. Each one of these lost lives you wonder what they could have accomplished, contributed to their families and the world. But this one, I honestly believe that the sky was the limit and I can only imagine how many lives he could have positively touched. A good rule of thumb as to someone’s character is how their in-laws speak about them (of course I’m excluding the off their rocker ones). May this family find some form of peace. May the children see all their dreams come true. And may they know in their hearts that he didn’t mean to leave them. I’m so very sorry for your loss. 🥺🥺🙏🏽🙏🏽

You're very smart and very strong Heather. You've got your head around this. Stay strong for yourself and your girls. Addiction is a disease period. The object of that addiction is irrelevant. Your family is not the first to be destroyed by drugs, and unfortunately, it won't be the last. Do whatever you have to do to get stronger. You won't be doing your girls any good if you remain angry. I understand the anger. It is motivated by love. God's peace be with you.

inner strength - that is the only thing that keeps a person from taking - whatever they're addicted to - again... some people find something they love more than drugs, like their kids.. that's where they get their inner strength. it's the same with smoking cigarettes.. once you quit, you can never touch one again. get past the detox part, the physical addiction part, and the rest is up to the addict.

You can't load this crisis on police. They are not health care professionals of addiction exerts. Opioids are not the only thing US has problems with. Police can't fix tem all. And the facts is that dealing with unlawful drugs is a dangerous. How many cops has had their lives taken fighting the problem. They're putting their own life on the line in their work. Are you? Blaming the police is absurd. They can't fix the problem. And in these situations the first responders are usually the EMTs.

Wow 😮 So sad that the police department wouldn’t help this family, instead, they failed them by not doing a complete investigation on what I consider a murder! The drug dealers will keep killing people until they’re held accountable for selling them lethal drugs

Such a powerful yet harrowingly painful testimony by two beautiful, very loving women. As Billy's wife continues to deeply mourn her loss, I hope she'll rest easy and do all she can to recover her strength. I hope Heather thrives in life along with her daughters. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my boyfriend to fentanyl poisoning in 2017. I think you are incredibly strong! You knew you had to pick up the pieces for your girls. You knew you had no choice, and you did what you had to do for your family. I have the utmost respect and admiration for you. ❤️‍🩹 When you told your girls he's still with you all, you weren't wrong. He's there. He can hear you when you talk to him, and youll be together again one day. I believe that. That gave me some peace in the weeks and months after my boyfriend's death. Maybe you can find some peace too. I pray that for you and your family. 🙏🕊

I don’t have children, but I can imagine the struggle that these parents go through when they had to decide between the drugs or their children. My mom was an alcoholic for the first 10 years of my life before she was strong enough to become stronger than the alcohol. I learned from her how hard it is to choose the substance over family. Heather’s strength will help her and Billy’s children get through this now and in the future when they come to realize what their daddy went through. I hope you all find peace ❤

I’m so grateful for this project. Too often, shows about addiction put the living at the forefront and all the loss and death is only alluded to, if anything. This is done with good intentions, to try to help those who can still be helped, but we are a death-avoidant society. Actual deaths SHOULD be avoided…what I mean is we are uncomfortable with the topic of death. Getting to know the people who are casualties of this epidemic and their families makes a much bigger impression.

First off all im so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you all. God bless you in your grief that He will give His peace. I had no support in my addiction. I was shunned, rejected, no one came too help me. I had to put myslef in detox and to this day i get no congrats on 7 years of sobriety. Your right we need to show them.love and caring. That im.passionate about now because my family just do not care to this day. I pray everyone struggling with addiction has someone to care enough for them to let them know they are loved and cared about so they have a reason to try and get sober. I know it was opiods but if hebwas taking those pills from the same dealer all that time it most likely was what henwas getting the whole time. Thats why he was nodding out. He was getting fentynal the whole time. Its sad and heartbreaking that that happened but your talking about a world of selfish people who do not care 1 iotta for you or your loved ones. Jesus helped me. Jesus saved me. Jesus is the one who can help anyone who cries out to Him this day! 🙏

@christinekowalski6 Congratulations to you on your 7 years of sobriety ❤!!! That’s amazing, not everyone can do this on their own… Everyday is a battle, but it is possible! And yes, it’s very sad when we get no support from our own family, they don’t care. They don’t want to see us succeed! But with God by our side, everything is possible 😊! Congratulations again!!! ❤

Christine, congratulations on your years of sobriety and stay humbled in the fact that you are sober as a result in believing in yourself. You finally got sober for your own well-being and hopefully, you will always remember this fact. Never stray from the emotional struggle you experienced at your lowest point, because that will save you from any future relapse. Good luck and Godspeed.

Congratz on staying sober for 7 years I know it's Esp hard in todays America / world , I have not Drank in 21 years yet nobody mentions it not even my wife & She for 1 knows what Booze does / Did to me 2 DUI's Many Arrests , Driving 50+ miles Blacked out .& More . I wonder if his pills were laced all along " Assumption " as he would have a Tolerance to Opioids esp taking up to 30 + mg a day . ??? It only serves curiosity now tho IMO Truly RIP Billy .

But if it was someone rich or a celebrity then maybe they would have been doing their dam job instead of screwing up!! This shit should never have happened!! But now it`s you and your girls, that needs all the help you can get. The police, why they give up, on this serious problem, i don`t understand ???. It will just go on,and on, the police have to get these drug sellers, and put them behind bars. Hope you cope, all the best to you both.

I'm so sorry for your loss...to the grieving wife I hope you know you are a beautiful lady fwiw. You won't want to hear this now perhaps but I hope and expect you can find a happy future still for you and your kids, whatever that looks like. For everyone else watching maybe with kids struggling with opioid addiction, I worry this series, whilst definitely necessary, might really frighten parents; I know the channel does survivor stories too...respect to them for having the insight to know that the possibility of survival is also a necessary part of the whole story. I mainlined heroin (and often crack) for 13 years straight...well that isn't true...I mainlined until I had no veins left except my femoral...until I quit. I did OD once and nearly died...but parents please know not every story ends in disaster. I am a father of 3 kids myself now and a qualified professional in two hard skill disciplines. Much love.
