@@KV-zg3oh Torres is still loved by the fans, he played on Saturday in the LFC Legends match, the first time he's pulled on a Liverpool home shirt since he left in 2011. And he got the biggest standing ovation when he scored. While most of us were hurt when he went to Chelsea, most of us are also mature enough to understand why he left. I'll give you 3 words to explain Fernando Torres exit in 2011: Gillet and Hicks. They sacked Rafa, a manager who won us the Champions League and replaced him with Roy Hodgson, the worst Liverpool manager since the inception of the Premier League. With Liverpool going backwards instead of forwards it was only a matter of time until Torres patience ran out - he came to Liverpool on the promise of winning trophies, and we didn't deliver.
@KV-zg3oh

@@KV-zg3oh Mate, Chelsea isn't a direct rival like you think they are. Man Utd and Everton are. Torres did deliver, other players didn't, we conceded too many goals as well. It's not just about scoring goals, you need a rock solid defence. When we did finally win a PL title, it was because we had a world class goalkeeper in Alisson and a world class centre back in Van Dijk. Torres had neither of those in his Liverpool team, he had Gerrard and Alonso, neither of whom are particularly defensive. And Torres was literally told that the club would deliver trophies, that was how we lured him away from Athletico Madrid. Know what I'm sick of? Liverpool supporters who know sod all about things but then bitch about our ex players.

@Stephen Docherty Let's first look at the stats. 3 goals in 7 games against Manchester United for Liverpool that's hardly anything to boast about, though better than the one goal in 8 for Chelsea and Vidic didn't play. So 3 goals in 14 games. Now, let's look at Vidic. Red cards, 4 of his 8 red cards came against Liverpool, but none of them were challenges made on Torres. Unfortunately for you, the Torres destroying Vidic every game is just a myth. But, as you said, let's ask Vidic. "Torres was a top player," he said. "At the time, he was probably the best striker in the league. He scored a few goals against United. "In the Premier League, I had some good games against [Didier] Drogba, sometimes bad. "I played well against Torres one week, then one game bad, that's the Premier League. You're not going to be on top of your game every week. "It's why I like the Premier League. In one game, you're going to be against a strong player like Drogba, the next it'll be a Torres or [Sergio] Aguero. "If people see me live, they say, 'I thought you were much bigger!' I was never big, but I gave everything in challenges. "It's why I never got bigger because I knew the next week I'd have Torres or Aguero, so I never spent as much time in the gym as you have to adapt to players." In another interview he stated "People say: 'You had a difficult game against Torres', but it was just the one game," Vidić said. "I misjudged the distance and Torres scored.” Interestingly, no mention of fear or of Torres being the one he feared the most. In fact, when asked about the four toughest strikers he faced in the Premier League, he named Didier Drogba, Sergio Agüero, Luis Suárez and Peter fricken Crouch!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Literally all he wanted was to feel important, needed and loved - not just by the fans, who many still love him as their favourite today - but the Liverpool leadership at the time saw him as just another number 9, really a toxic place to be coming from your hometown club where you were loved even on your bad days. Can't blame him, a footballers career is short lived, you need to make the most of it while you can and win what you can - someone like Harry Kane may regret that after his career ends, but respect to him for digging it out with spurs as long as he has before the city bid.

Easy, shoot your brother. And then shoot your other brother. Liverpool had to see Daglish retire, then Fowler, then Owen injured never recovered, then Torres who left. You don’t go to the directors as if you are some sort of a big shot, Liverpool isn’t built to be a one man show. It is a family after Everton packed their bags and left, and became a legendary club, as a family. Liverpool has a core value, it is why we don’t buy stars after stars and create a dream team. Look at Barca, look at Aston Villa, Leeds United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, and so many others like AC Milan actually dropped under relegation zone despite had the strongest team in the world once. Who we have now, Origi, Mane, Firmino, Jota, Salah, Keita, Henderson, Fabinho, Chamberlain, Milner, TAA, Robertson, Tsimikas, VVD, Matip and so on and so forth, you don’t see any pre known stars playing in the top teams. I disagree about the club not being on his level. I would argue Liverpool had a better squad in 2007-2010 than 2004-2007 when they reached 2 champions league finals and won the fa cup 2006. Its just that Man U , Chelsea and to a lesser extent Arsenal back then had MONSTER squads and coaches, so he couldn't win anything domestically. Benitez leaving for Inter also counted i'm sure. Also Liverpool sold Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa to Madrid in the summer of 2009...so his whole Spanish entourage left...leaving him , i'm assuming, rather alone and isolated in the dressing room.And ofc when you sell some of your best players , instead of bringing superstars, that shows you the intentions of the owners.He saw that those American owners didnt want to invest big money to build a trophy winning side and he went there for trophies.

This may sound harsh but people who unironically still don't understand why he left the club at that time are either uninformed, ignorant or too blinded by their subjective bias. LFC was pretty much irrelevant for most of the 2010s, even when Klopp arrived it took him 3-4 years and a whole new squad to create a sustainable winning culture at the club but by that time Torres had already won 4 major club trophies elsewhere and was past his prime anyway. Regardless how "underwhelming" his time at Chelsea was, his decision to leave Liverpool back then was definitely reasonable.

He was my favorite player growing up and made me support Liverpool. I get his reasoning though, especially now as I'm older. Hicks and Gillett didn't care about the club and had no idea what they were doing. They saw money and that was it. They were rotting it from the inside out and everybody knew it. That Liverpool team featuring Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano was arguably one of the best midfields in the world at the time and all Hicks and Gillett needed to do was invest to get them over the line and they didn't. Instead, they opted for that "sell to buy" policy and started piling on massive amounts of debt. Anybody else would've seen the writing on the wall and, after hearing it from Fernando himself, that the ownership and management didn't care about any of it, let alone players, I can't blame him at all.

At Least he won titles at Chelsea and scored some very important goals. I wouldn't say it was a bad move on his part. Nobody is obligated to remain at one club. Very few do

He needed a loving environment to thrive. He never got that at Chelsea and unfortunately the Liverpool ownership back then screwed the club.

First time i saw him score that 1st goal vs chelsea where he got past Ben Haim and scored past Cech, Torres was my instant favorite player. I even bought a magazine with his poster and put it in my locker. When he left, it was so painful for me but I somewhat forgave him instantly because he did not win even 1 title in Liverpool. He made the right choice imo

Liverpool didnt win anything under Torres because he missed a lot of games. If he was a stronger player, less prone to injury Liverpool would likely have won the Premier League in 2009 and UEFA Cup in 2010.

I remember I was 11 and my dad said “Torres left Liverpool” and two tears went down my cheeks. Honestly, it felt like losing a close friend and was crying and watching Torres and Stevie G goal compilations 😂 I was such a mess but to this day, Torres is still my favourite player, El Niño❤️

No hard feelings. He gave his best at Liverpool, its apparent the coaches after Benitez just never seems to be able to bring the team to the level of title winning except Brendon Rodgers. Xabi left, mascherano left, but on the hindsight they got Suarez in but squandered a big chunk on Carroll. Not sure if the Suarez deal is before or after torres left but if they play together with Gerrard probably we could have won the title then

Yeah, Liverpool almost went bankrupt at the end of Hicks and Gillett era. Even took a few years for Klopp to build his title winning team. The real 'mistake' or 'miscalculation' Torres made was picking a move to a rival English club like Chelsea. If he went to Barca instead, for example, he'd probably get less hate.

It was the day before torres left. Carroll transfer was dependent on torres but suarez was being signed if torres was leaving or not.

No transfer has ever had me more gutted. His struggles at Chelsea and his comeback in the testimonial healed that and will be remembered fondly. YNWA el Nino
