It is probably one of my favourites and there are other cars in the collection with very similar colours, including British ones At one point I also attempted to buy a Testarossa to add to the collection, which was for sale locally in the same colour scheme. It also was recently mechanically sorted by the Ferrari dealership with the full engine-out service, but wasn't a perfect show car. Unfortunately it had sold the day before I went to go buy it, or this episode might have featured it instead.

Absolutely! I'm also a big fan of British sports cars as well, but the Italians really perfected the visceral experience of driving a sports car. The British sports cars are capable and fun, but the engines tend to be powerful without having to rev to a high redline, so the Italian cars bring an exhilaration just by design that the British cars can't touch.

@ahaugland1
@ahaugland1 6 ай бұрын
Three out of the five Ferraris in the colleciton are red with a tan interior. Of those, its quite probable that two of them didn't start out that way. It really didn't become dominant practice until the 1980s and became popular enough that a lot of the cars predating the trend ended up getting refinished that way. I expect I can get build records for the two that I'm uncertain about (Ferrari 330GT and Ferrari 365GTC/4) and confirm one way or the other. That said, whenever I drive my silver Ferrari 250 GT, I keep getting asked if its the James Bond car. It's interesting what associations people make between colours and cars!

I love your reviews - with both of you contributing. I had a (red) 308 which I took a couple of years to resurrect from a sorry state. As you say it’s an easy car to work on and parts are surprisingly cheap. You obviously spend a lot of time and trouble on your cars - any chance of seeing some of that work in your garage? Keep up the good work, you’re producing great videos!

We're currently filming a restoration video in process on one of the cars (you can see it teased in the Carside Questions Episode 2 video) but having some garage time with @alexhaugland1 sounds like a great idea. We are looking at other things in the collection we can film and have certainly talked about what other things people would be interested in that would fit the broad scope of who we're trying to reach with the channel. It also takes a lot of work to put out the content we are doing with a crew as small as we are. That said, I do like the idea of going further into depth of the behind--the-scenes, either with specific projects or with some of the details of keeping the cars in a collection like this one alive. It would be a bit more of a specialist interest for some, though, so wouldn't likely be part of our main releases aside from maybe a short montage, but could be something we might release between main episodes.

You need to change that oil filter. Common issue with uniformed owners. There are only three oil filters that work on all 308's. They are the Ferrari UFI, the Fram PH2804/1, and the Baldwin B253. These three oil filters have "stand off" tubes in them to keep oil in the filter while the engine is shut off. Throw that Wix filter away!
@ahaugland1
@ahaugland1 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the heads up. All my other Ferraris are running Baldwin filters, but those are classic V12s where the filters are incredibly obvious in the engine bay. I had a local shop service the car most recently and hadn't specified or paid attention to what filter they fitted, though can certainly remedy the issue.

That is a neatly integrated third brake light, obviously not original to the car given its age. Also, where are the reverse lights? Should be outboard and integrated with the turn signals. Nice color combination.
@ahaugland1
@ahaugland1 6 ай бұрын
We talked and filmed quite a bit about the past modifications to this car by previous owners, many of which I've undone, but most of it ended up getting cut due to video length. If its something that people are interested in, we could potentially put some of it together as extra content, but in summary, when I bought the car it had been mechanically well maintained, but a previous owner decided to customize it as much as he could. He removed the front bumper, extended the grille to cover the hole, hiding the turn signals and a set of fog lights behind it, hence the change to the European style front bumper. He also almost completely debadged the car, installed different mirrors on long pedestals painted body colour, and various other changes. I ended acquiring the car inexpensively enough due to the multitude of things "wrong" with it that it was reasonably affordable to set most of them back right. The lenses of the inner and outer brake lights are interchangeable, but to be honest I hadn't really noticed that the reverse light-side of the lens was incorrect! Fortunately it should be an easy fix.

@Everyday2Exotic
@Everyday2Exotic 6 ай бұрын
Music is absolutely central to everything that we're doing. Not a lot of car shows put music at the forefront alongside cars, that's something we specifically wanted to do with each episode. We legally license all music through Musicbed (because we want to support these talented musicians!), so adding credits in the episodes is not something we're required to do. But the music is just so dang good and adds so much it feels like adding in a "now playing" credit is the least we can do. The steering column turn signal stalks, lever, buttons feels exactly like an old Fiat 127 or the1600 coupe. It never felt like an old Alfa Romeo from the same era. Personally I prefer the old small rounded fender mount turn signal and take the engine to 21st century with fuel injection, itbs, crank/cam sensors, COP, wide band 02 sensors and modern wiring harness to a Haltech Elite ecu .... you'll get reliability and extra hp/torque .... I will delete the heater and every power robbing, emission BS on the engine .... I just need a gud cheap reliable DENSO or Patco AC compressor in it. We did it on a Dino GT4 in 2015
@Everyday2Exotic
@Everyday2Exotic 6 ай бұрын
Oh we'd love to see that Dino GT4. That's what makes the '76 308 GTB one of the better 308s, it still maintains much of its power before US emissions standards kicked in. There's some pretty impressive 308 builds out there with modern components that feel like they finally bring the true sportiness to match the Ferrari look!

@@princesssolace4337 Sounds like the perfect candidate to customize. I've driven in Thailand and it was the only place I've driven where the car came new without a heater but with air conditioning. The heater would be completely useless there as it would be in Malaysia. Part of what I really like about these early Ferraris is the switch gear, which clearly shows that you are in a car of the 1960s of 70s. By the 1980s it was all black pushbuttons with LED lights and lost all the character.

@@ahaugland1 Fun Fact - the owner sold his Skyline GTR to restore the Dino and upgrade the electrical, cooling system. He even got a spare engine when he bought the car. In 2009, we got a 2001 Audi RS4 Avant, the cheapest in UK ..... sold the front pair heated Recaros and windshield to a repair shop looking for one. The Recaros cost £2500 each new from Audi. We did the heater and front side airbag delete in UK, install a normal windscreen for free and we gave away the winter tyres+wheels combo for free too. It cut the price 50% at dat time b4 shipping it over to Malaysia. I'm kinda suprised in 2023 the Audi cost a lot.

Bad luck u got carb version. Injection is slower but more reliable.
@ahaugland1
@ahaugland1 6 ай бұрын
That can absolutely be true if the carbs aren't well tuned. These ones certainly are. The general rule that causes the most problems when broken is that if you have carburetor problems, that it isn't the carburetor at all but something in the ignition system. There are four carburetors to set up, tune, and balance. It takes someone who really knows what they are doing to set it up and generally, as long as you keep the fuel system clean and drive the car to keep old fuel accumulations from building up, they stay pretty well tuned. Messing with it without fully checking the ignition system first does nothing but make it so you need to start the entire process over again. I would add though, that if Ferrari didn't have to detune the engine itself to meet emissions rules, the fuel injected cars should have been not only more reliable but faster as well as a well set up fuel injection system is a much more perfect way to keep peak fueling accuracy in varying conditions than carburetors ever could hope to be!

More Engine Nosie please! I think these vids are over edited.. Otherwise, must be nice to have so much access to beautiful cars! Your wife must be the first person ever to knit in a Ferrari especially while it's in motion.
@Everyday2Exotic
@Everyday2Exotic 5 ай бұрын
Saying our videos are over-edited is like saying these cars are over engineered! ;) Our goal is to have Top Gear like production quality with the warmth and heart of a KZfaq show, so taking the time to produce videos that mix high quality music, lighting, cinematography, and these cars is all part of what we're doing. There's plenty of videos out there of people with their iPhones and GoPros talking about cars, but who else can do what we do? And yes, we hear you about engine noise! The microphones we've been using for these episodes are primarily for picking up voices and don't do a good job of capturing anything other than a muffled drone of the engine. For future episodes we'll be recording a secondary audio track on a separate microphone specifically for engine noise. That's just another little detail that goes into making this a quality production!
@ahaugland1
@ahaugland1 5 ай бұрын
We've discussed what we can do about engine noise in the videos to improve the experience listening to it. Part of the issue is that getting audio with good where you can hear us talking requires noise cancellation, greatly reducing the engine noise. In the future, we may upgrade our sound equipment to specifically get an unfiltered sound that can be balanced in to bring back enough of the engine nose without making everything else inaudible.
