The Ferrari 308 was introduced in 1975 and the two-seater V8 mid-engine sports car acted as a template for future models from the 328 to the 458 Italia.
There are four different iterations of 308. The original 308 had 240 to 255 hp depending on if it was a european or US spec'd car. These were produced from 1975 to 1980. The body was originally constructed of fiberglass, but in 1976 Ferrari switched to steel bodies, most likely due to cost.
At the end of 1980 increasing emission standards forced Ferrari to adopt a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system - which robbed power from the V8 knocking it down to about 210 hp. These cars are referred to as the 308 GTBi or GTSi.
They also introduced a 208 which has a tiny 2 litre version of the V8 found in the 308. It was mainly produced for the local Italian market as engines larger than 2 litres were subjected to a 38% value added tax.
In 1982 Ferrari made additional modifications. In this case the engine would feature four valves per cylinder bumping horsepower back to the 240 range. These cars are called the 308 Quattrovalvole (and featured in this video), which means four valves in Italian.
