This is a big one! This week on TheCarGuys and #DriveEveryFerrari we drive the Ferrari 599 GTO - one of those mythical cars with a fearsome reputation, a historic name, and something that’s become increasingly difficult to find. You had to be a Ferrari VIP to buy one originally, and they only made 599 in 2010 and 2011.
To celebrate such a special drive, and owner Tony’s generosity, this episode includes a full explanation of the cars features - inside and out - a look at current values, a full review and roadtest, some Beans (obviously) and the history of the GTO (at the end).

All 599s are ageing very well aesthetically. The GTO is an incredible car. It’s a big leap on from a GTB, but in real world driving on the road, not that big a leap … And (ignoring running costs for the moment), a GTB is a relative bargain at only GBP90k in today’s market, IMHO.

I've never been a big fan of the looks of the 599, but the changes to the GTO are a big improvement. That color looks spectacular on that car as well!

The best Ferrari ever made (my opinion). Nothing beats the rawness, designed to be driven hard. Pure Ferrari spirit and heart. I am very lucky to have been surrounded by a few and it always gives me goosebumps and puts a tear in the corner of my eye. A 599 owner I spoke with wanted the empty plaque in the cabin signed by Mick Schumacher :)

I had tears, thinking how Great Ferrari's back then, and now they're producing,scraps such as Sf90,f8,296 which has no soul in it. The last Ferrari which has soul and connect with drivers emotion will be the 812 super fast...... And I'll prefer the 812 super fast any day. And can't even imagine how worst the purosounge gonna be

I'm very pleased to see what you made of this. I am fortunate to have had chance to give one beans myself and it remains the must have lotto win car for me. Great episode..awesome car. Brute force. My local AD in Melbourne has a gorgeous 599 GTO in his collection. Pearlescent white with metallic blue mirrors and stripe. A very cool look. Even has the 599 number plate. Which adds another $4-500k to the price.. if it was for sale. It sits beside his 288GTO. and F40. And Enzo. Another lovely PP on the wrist, I see.

The exhaust noise of the 599 GTO is amazing, sure. But the induction noise and the engine roar is on another galaxy. I had a chance to see one driven flat out on racetrack. The way it sounds when it takes long deep breath is just something else.

I seem to recall the car journos saying the wider front tyres gave the car so much front end bite that when you really pushing the back end got very interesting. One for the car control hero's then.

I always wondered about the shift speed on the GTO transmission versus the Scuderia. I personally like the way the Scud’s shifts once you put it in RACE mode. How old a Lamborghini STO and GT4 with a PDK and I still find SCUD’s Version of the single clutch transmission adequate. Yes, you are right, you need to lift momentarily when changing gears, but that’s what makes it a lot more akin to driving a car with a manual transmission.

Good vid, worth the extra effort and finesse - I was in the car park when Vanessa Feltz reversed her crappy dented Mini into Chris Evans' 599 gto and drove off hoping he wouldn't notice as it was just a small ding - Agree it's a fab car Roger from Evo Magazine and I had one for a month on launch and we loved it apart from it slightly naff glitzy looks !!
