I will add my 2 cents to the conversation. My ferritin has been high for several years, between 450-799. Liver enzymes tests always came back as normal. My doctor told me not to worry because there is no iron overload. So why is ferritin so high? Inflammation was the answer. I kept whining about the ferritin every time I see her. Finally, she got fed up and referred me to a haematologist/oncologist. He was friendly and patient. He explained that as long as there is no iron overload as shown on the labs, there is nothing to worry about. One possible explanation for the high ferritin is the body’s reaction to irritation, like my kidney stone condition. Fine, nothing to worry about.

Why not check IL6 for chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation expresses IL6 which expresses hepcidin which closes feroportin which blocks iron from diet from entering the blood stream. More importantly it also blocks the recycled iron collected by macrophage on the red blood cells that are constantly dying. With Ferroportin blocked and iron from daily RBC recycling getting stored as ferritin instead of going back to the blood stream then ferritin rises and serum iron and TS% lowers.

Mine was due to mercury and lead toxicity confirmed with hair test along with elevated copper. i.e causing oxidative stress my ferritin fluctuated between 208-442

Most informative and hard to believe or understand that high level of iron is not iron overload, to worry about? Comments from others are really helpful here too. I guess that if liver enzymes and ferritin levels are very high, there's concern but if only ferritin level is high, inlammation can cause iron overload.

My iron is 77 ug/dl. Iron Saturation is 26% but ferritin is 497. I’m 51 year old male, not overweight and no other symptoms. Don’t drink much at all. Tested negative for hemochromatosis. Does phlebotomy make sense? Thx for posting this video

My elevated ferritin was treated by an oncologist with 12 phlebotomy's over 2 years. Liver enzymes remained high. Went on a low carb diet, lost 40 pounds. AST/ALT combined went from 150 to 45. "Fired" my oncologist, with his permission. Hypertrophic fat cells were "leaking" ferritin.

Curious if you had any follow ups and if you’re ferritin is still low? I’m having hemochromatosis negative high ferritin with unknown cause

@@miiitchhh225 No followups in the past year, but is a good suggestion. My iron panels were always normal when ferritin was high. Suspect they are still good since I've maintained most of the weight loss.

Carnivore diet would increase cholesterol but also meat has high levels of digestible iron. Logically simple natural thing to do is reduce meat consumption, to alleviate iron overload

How about oxalate crystals puncturing cells to release inter cellular fluids … aka ferritin as per the Root Cause Protocol.

How can one test oxidative stress. With phlebotomy my family member develops anemia, ferritin is lowered but so is overall iron. Incidentally has pitted nail beds. Would love more insight. No hematachromatosis.

Well if iron is generally low, and you remove blood from the body, you would probably see iron decrease even further. I would reach out to your doc.

you many have Non-HFE hemochromatosis type 4 (SLC40A1) called Ferroportin Disease which is ignored in usa - it can occur with Southern European descent - stay away from the alcohol, high iron foods (red meat) and vitamin C and iron supplements and talk to a specialist (hematologist) who knows what he's doing with hemochromatosis and aware of ferroportin disease.
