I test four popular ferro rod's with various tinder sources along with a tabletop review of each one. These are my favorite ferro rod options in 2020.

To have an accurate test you should have used the same striker on all of the different rods to eliminate any variables from the differing strikers. I use the same kind of striker as the Uberleben has on all of my different brands of rods and I can't tell a difference between any of the brands. IMO the striker you use is more important than the brand of rod you use.

nathan is out here with me he's in rialto ca me huntington beach ca. we did lunch one day. he has some bad ass ferro rods.

Without comparison,more of a showing All look very good,and have found sometime striker is just as important

That dragon tail is so pretty! I actually make these too, and finding a complete dragon tail is not easy! Especially one that's the right size for a ferro rod handle to wear around your neck. Then cleaning it up to bring out it's natural beauty without damaging or scratching it is tough too. It sure is exciting when you do find um. There's just something about fatwood

American Drifter I’m thinking fat wood would be pretty soft....making a dragon tail could be a fun project....hmmm... -k

@@Derparoonie It's doable, with the supplies. Traditional fatwood firesteels he sells are about $20...saves the hassle and materials. I know Jeff seals the wood too.

All Ferro Rods come from China , I don't know of any in any other countries , So you are just comparing distributors of Ferro Rods

100% correct. It's the striker that makes the difference and IMO he should have used the same striker for all of the rods he tested.

@@j.t.cooper2963 , Ferro Rods come in two types , soft and hard , Soft Ferro Rods have different percentages of Ferrocerium , magnesium and iron than hard Ferro Rods , As for the scraper , I have used Steel , Stainless Steel , Rocks , Files , grinding wheels , hacksaw blades , anything hard . I have over 100 Ferro Rods from small ones that fit in your boot laces , to 1/4 by 3 inch's , to 1/2 by 6 inch's , to 1 inch by 10 inch Monster Ferro Rods that weight 2 pounds each and cost $150 bucks , Copper and aluminum does not provide a hard scraper , I tried it .

@@j.t.cooper2963 , I have got my last 3 orders from Nathan 4071 , Including the Monster 1 inch diameter by 10 inches long , I make my own handles and Strikers , and I have over 400+ pieces of Fat Wood , so I light sometimes 5 fires each day , I usually get Fire on the first or second strike ,.
