Thank you for the video, Hans. With the SBooster that I bought after seeing your review of the MKII version, I especially appreciate the clarity, the size of the soundstage and the relaxed sound that makes us feel emotionally connected to the music we are listening to. I am thinking about buying the Hypsos to replace the SBooster, because I have streamers and DACs with diferent voltages, but I am afraid that the better performance of the Hypsos will change the dynamics of the music and that it loses the relaxed and emotional sound, in the calmer songs, which I enjoy so much.

After I watched your video, I procured the Hypsos. I am cognizant of the value of the PS. I am using the Bluesound Node. I purchased the PCB board for the Bluesound from Fidelity Audio which is required to use the PS. The sound benefit was jaw dropping. The Bluesound is NOT a audiophile grade component. The PCB along with the Hypsos is a GAME Changer. A colleague of mine uses the Hypsos with the Chord Ethernet Switch. Again the performance is substantial.

Power supplies have dramatic effect on sound quality,sometimes equal to device schematics! I improved sound of many devices just to changing cheap impulse power supply to diy linear one. For example cheapest Pro Ject phono corrector can sound much much better with good power supply.While Pro-ject schematics is good,delivered power supply spoil sound,make it grey & flat.Changing power supply moves such phono corrector from low to medium priced phono corrector categories in terms of sound quality.

Thanks Hans, i’m playing with the Hypsos right now on a Mytek Brooklyn+ and i couldn’t agree more. Most of all impressive are the dynamics! Sometimes playing music i’m scared of the effect. I had some other PSU’s on a high level as well but this one beats them all! Last thing ; Standard it comes with a 50cm cable 5.5/2.1 or 2.5 by choice. On request 100cm is plus 50.euro’s extra.

Thank you.... I always love your reviews and they have guided me in my current audio setup. I am a stronger believer in Linear PSUs. In fact, I have linear PSU's powering my Mac Mini (Uptone), iFi - Micro iUSB 2.0 Power Supply, and headphone amplifier. However, these are "simple" circuits and most good ones use a R-core or toroidal transformer. I would like to see you do a review or comparison between these type of mainstream PSUs versus some Chi-fi PSUs with decent R-core or Talema transformers. I think the difference would be indistinguishable. You've mentioned doing this type of review in past reviews... I am still waiting. Another interesting review. Thanks again!
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel3 жыл бұрын
Don't believe in linear power supplies; believe in GOOD power supplies, like the Uptone's. Transformers are only a limited part of the equation.

Very nice video as all your videos. I’m considering the Hypsos to feed my Nucleus + who’s still with its original PSU. But I’m using my Nucleus as core only to feed my Mola Mola Makua (with integrated DAC) via Ethernet. I’ve read left and right that upgrading the Nuc PSU would only have an effect while using the USB port of the NUC not on the Ethernet one. Do you think bringing the Hypsos into my equation would be beneficial?

No, if you want to further improve the sound quality, invest in a high end ethernet switch like kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9Vkhqeams6wqKc.html and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ap6fmNOov829gqs.html

I want to buy a Ferrum Hypsos. However, I need to know the type of cable termination I will need. Hypsos offers two alternatives but they say other may be available. The two standard plugs they offer are 5.5 x 2.5 mm and 5.5 x 2.1 mm. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of my server does not publish the information regarding the type of plug required, nor have they told me although I have asked them. I have the brick style switching power supply with the attached cable. Is there a way to know which type it is? Should I take a measurement? The power supply output is 12v 5amps. Input is 100-240VAC, 50-60HZ, 1.8A. Your help is greatly appreciated.

You can simply measure the diameters of the barrel and the inside. \For that is what Ferrum specifies.

For over 15 years I’ve listened to stereo music using a Marantz SR8300 receiver and recently I bought a pair of Magnepan 1.7i speakers and REL S/510 subwoofer. Some music tracks sound like a real life live performance and sound so natural and musical to my ears. I’ve more recently bought a Benchmark AHB2 amplifier and Mytek Brooklyn Bridge but I find the sound is lacking dynamics and musicality, kinda sounds thin. Instruments like acoustic guitar and cymbals sound more natural and wonderful to listen to much more so on the Marantz. So question is will a Ferrum Hypsos give me a more natural live performance sound with better dynamics powering my Mytek as preamp to AHB2 much closer to what my Marantz could reproduce with track Roadhouse and Automobiles by Chris Jones?
@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel2 жыл бұрын
I think you got so much accustomed to the sound of your Marantz that any change is a downgrade. I don’t think the Ferrum Hypnos wil some that.
@StephenKurlow2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel yes that is my fear and perhaps joy to learn. I’m going to try the Ferrum. Some people reckon it brings out more of a natural sound on the mytek. If that is not to my satisfaction then I may have to save up for Marantz’s top of the range PM10S1 integrated amp to replace then Benchmark ahb2
@StephenKurlow2 жыл бұрын
I received the Ferrum Hypsos to power my Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and now I am enjoying the listening experience. It is a must buy. Now acoustic instruments sound more real and life like. Sound is fuller bodied as it was sounding a bit thin without the Hypsos. Transients have moved up a notch too with more slam and weight behind sounds like piano, bass guitar and drums. Cymbals sound more life like now too. All up a worthy addition. It is obvious why most hifi equipment comes with toroidal power supplies rather than SMPS. Seems can only get away with SMPS on the power amp but not preamp.

I'm just wondering if a 12V batterie will not provide the same effect. Normally their output voltage is around 13 to 13.5 V. Die you test this variant allready?

How do you tell if your system would benefit from such a component? If a system is not sufficiently resolving there would be no change... But how would you know? There are countless combinations of dacs, amps, speakers and room setups.

@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thanks for the response I was sorting of dreading that as the answer... I guess a related question is: It makes sense that spending 100x more for speakers than an integrated amp/dac means quality is unheard that could be gained with a better amp & dac. Is there a good way to understand where the weakest links in a system are? There is no silver bullet, but what are some guidelines that says this speaker outresolves that dac or that speaker is not showing what that amp can do?
