ABOUT WANDERING BIRD
In 2018, I quit my job as an air traffic controller to travel in a van. That's adulting, right?
Since then, I've spent most of my time living in a motorhome, touring the UK and Europe, sometimes with my husband, sometimes with my daughter and sometimes enjoying solo female vanlife (well, with my dog, Mac!)
Wandering Bird was created to help motorhomers and campervanners make the most of their time on the road.
We share weekly tips, tricks and reviews to encourage and inspire your next adventure, whether you're a complete motorhoming beginner, or a more experienced owner looking for new ideas or places to visit.

What an adventure, & packed so much information in the video I think I know all I need to know. But I need to digress, your complexion is awesome, how do you care for your skin when travelling, so many weathers you tackle, I bet your one of the lucky ones with fabulous genes. 😊

Wonderful to see this video. I already have it on the list to do and previously priced up the trip with simliar cost to you. A big trip but much cheaper than renting a MH over there if staying for 3 or 4 weeks :) Exiting! Have fun.

NIce review of the ferry to Iceland and how to get there. One thing I noticed was the limited mileage for each day for hired campers. This would add up to the costs, as a 100km per day allowance is going to be exceeded almost everyday as the distances between towns and locations is huge. I have visited Iceland around 11 times, and it is not unusal for us to return the hire car with 1500km to 2000 kms for a 5 day rental. It you already own a motorhome the ferry costs make a lot more sense, and the option of a few days in the Faroes sounds awesome.

Hi Kat, great video although I’m not sure that I’d have the courage to go to Iceland on my own so good for you. I’m loving the aerial shots that you got with your drone, apologies if I’ve forgotten a blog that you’ve done but have you covered which drone you’ve got and you? Thanks Joyce and keep the videos and emails coming, everything you cover is well done and very informative

I did this by car in 07 and 08, iceland back then counted as eu and my insurer offered a fully comp top up for a modest fee. Not sure about these days. Really fab trips but rough gravel roads, some under construction were very hairy in a 2wd Focus. The northeast very remote, hardly any traffic. Need to be prepared for almost anything (within reason) and refuel when you see a petrol station in the quiet areas. Faroes were fab too esp the tunnels. Did a day trip to Greenland from Iceland. Used ti via the Hoek and camp in Friedrichstadt just before Danish border. A long drive but a convenient and pretty stopover on way to ferry.

Good explanations but some silly prices when it's all added up...think I'd rather tour Scotland or UK.

We are planning our trip to Iceland currently. I found out that it make 400 € difference when the car is below 2.5m now I have to check if I get it lower by removing the sunshade from the roof, at them moment it is 2.57m. Anyway - you said you could bring your own food on the ferry to save on meals. Is it possible to access your van while on the ferry?
