Garden fundamentals on youtube. Robert Pavlis. He also has great books. He would pick apart this video. Plants also make their food you aren't feeding them, you are supplying them with minerals that become a solution that the plant will use for its metabolism. Sugars the plant makes "photo" light "synthesis" combining, gets used to help the plant grow and it does that the same fundamental way as we do we take in oxygen and it oxidizes the sugar and produces enegry required for growth. Robert also does garden myths like synthetic vs organic fertilizer.

Look up content on how to grow weed, its the same for garden plants and they dumb that shit down into super simple terms. In a jist, all plants need 3 major elements to grow and make fruit. N-P-K Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium Crash course on successful feeding plan i use for everything Fertilizer - i buy cheap salt fertilizer from a brand called “general hydroponics” I use the 2 part. The maxi bloom and maxi grow. You only use one at a time, maxi-grow when its growing, bloom when its making flowers and fruiting I also use a cal-mag, a calcium/magnesium supplement, which you can find almost anywhere To fend off nutrient burn and atill Allow the plant to take in the nutrients naturally as well as lots of other benifits, i use organic microbes to keep lots of organic life in the soil so everything stays regulated naturally. I use a product called “Recharge” from a company called “RealGrowers”. Its a little pricy but not as bad as some stuff like “mammoth-p” I mix that in when i feed the fertilizer, and alternate those feeds with compost tea, which adds even more microorganisms My compost tea recipe is very simple but very effective 3 gallons dechlorinated water (i just let a bucket sot out for a day or 2) , 1 heaping 8 oz cup of worm castings, 1/4 cup of blackstrap molasses. Aerate for at least 24 hours before feeding to plants

The first leafs contain more sugar and power to make the plant grow and get the true leafs out as quick as possible. That's why they got eaten by rascals so frequently.. The best thing you can provide this is to put a white container with a net on them, but still let them grow outside when the weather is right to get some wind. Plants grow stronger with wind. When your plant is having 5 to 10 leafs its strong enough to face the world without a net... Good Luck!

Your seedling mix should have enough stuff in it to support your plants until they get transplanted. What most people lack is phosphorus uptake. 60% of your plants phosphorus uptake happens within the first week. If it's not available you'll never get that phosphorus level up.

Great video but the whole "synthetic fertilizer has salt" is very misleading. Most people will understand that it contains sodium chloride (table salt) but that's not what salt means in chemistry. The organic fertilizer will also contain "salts" as the organic compounds break down. The benefits of organic fertilizer is that they break down slower so it's harder to over fertilize your plants and the environment but if you use synthetic fertilizers that's fine too just dilute it the same way to get down to a 3-3-3 or lower.
@jacquesinthegarden
@jacquesinthegarden Жыл бұрын
True I should have worded it more carefully, they aren't salt like take salts just chemically salts leading to rapis uptake as they become soluble in water. It's true you can dilute the synthetics but I would still prefer the organic fertilizers which support the soil life as well.
@mawawohuuuschwarz3721
@mawawohuuuschwarz3721 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Also, 3-3-3 stands for the ratio (and mg) of N-P-K, so "salts" containing nitrogen, phosphorus and kalium in this proportion and mg (per liter if diluted?).

Honest question here, not trying to stir up trouble: I am confused because I saw in a number of experts' videos that using organic fertilizer is a waste if you don't have the microorganisms found in soil (but not found in potting mix) to break it down to aid the plants' absorption of the nutrients. So wouldn't giving organic fert. to contained plants (in potting mix) be like feeding crunchy Trail mix to a baby with no teeth?

@jacquesinthegarden

It definitely depends on the seed some can take 3 weeks, like parsley, most should be within a week or 2. If you are trying to germinate peppers or tomatoes they need heat to germinate quickly so it could be that you need a heat mat

@gofigure4920

No don't. You will kill those seedlings. I would wait till they have a few of the original leaves before you plant them in the soil. I would create a hole with no fertilizer soil a few inches in the spot you are planning to bury them in it so hopefully not to burn the seedlings. I personally do not fertilize the soil till the plant gets bigger.

From what I've learned never fertilize extremely dry plants. What I do is check the soil by pushing my finger into the soil, dry means I water first, let it sit for a time so the plant can draw the water into it's roots. Then it's safe to fertilize. If you are watering by filling the bottom tray what time of day won't matter, if you fertilize or water from above you should only do early enough in the day for any liquid on the leaves has time to dry first.

It’s obvious he’s a true gardener but he doesn’t read the comments🧐or answer. For those of us that are new to gardening, we just need a quick answer as to not burn our seedling. I started some of mine too early and so some of the leaves are turning yellow. Too much water? Not enough? Lack of fertilizer? They have been in their containers for a couple of months. 😩 I’m anxious to get them in their waist high raised beds. So what fertilizer is good for all of them for starters? I’ve had videos that recommend different fertilizers for squash vs cabbage, broccoli and something else for tomatoes. Everyone on the video makes it look easy. But it’s not. I plan on adding compost and worm castings to the raised bed soil I bought last year. Don’t think anything I’m using will burn my newbie plants. But it hoping it will be enough to get growth and a great harvest. Any suggestions you all that know? Planning on adding vermiculite to help with the soil mix in the beds. Thanks🪴🩷😊
