To anyone who wasn't there and who isn't immersed in football culture is hard to emphasise enough just how incredible the climax to the '89 season was. Most years the championship is decided before the final match of the season, and I cannot recall another season that saw the top two teams playing against each other in the last match. Then for it to all be settled by a last minute goal, and for the margin to be _so wafer thin_ - level on points, level on goal difference. Then you can add in how much Arsenal were underdogs. This was the Liverpool side of Barnes and Beardsley. They had won the cup the previous week. They had won seven out of the previous ten championships. After beating West Ham 5-1 midweek to go three points clear and with goal difference 4 greater than Arsenal it really looked like the season was over. Anyway I have no interest in watching this film. I saw this season first hand when it happened. Furthermore I’m a scouser and I will go to my grave believing that Alan Smith never got his head on that indirect free kick! But fair play to ‘em, George Graham built a very good team and we had some classic encounters in the late 80s.

Try watching 12 Mighty Orphans , it's the best sports film I've watched this year so far.

It's a sweet film but I actually prefer the American remake with Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore. A great British film with a football story line is Bill Forsyth's 'Gregory's Girl'.

If you want n English football movie that is as authentic or as near as ya gonna get you have to watch Football Factory it's a look at a certain type off football fans on and off the field.. its a great movie and as cockney as you're going to get
