If you've been struggling to get started building a thriving zoo, or are completely new to the game, I'm here to help! In this let’s play tutorial series, I'm going to teach you how to start a zoo in Planet Zoo, manage your animals, staff and guests, and crucially, plan and design a realistic, beautiful AND functional Zoo in Franchise Mode!
In episode 2 of this let's play series we run over some more advanced path techniques, specifically how to make large plazas and have smooth corners; more advanced buildings techniques and how to use Advanced Move, plus how to use null barriers to create more interesting habitat designs!

I'm absolutely loving this series! Planet Zoo is a game that I considered buying before Christmas but decided not to. However, after your first video of this series, I immediately bought it so that I could build along with you (as I've done with Auridon). All I have to say is thank you so much. I've had Planet Zoo since launch and tbh right now the game is just on my library rotting away because of the complexity of the detailing and the tools of the game. Everytime a video of planet zoo pops into my feed is just this amazing video of a zoo fully detailed that I know I'm never being able to replicate that so that made me lose the motivation to play the game. I played Zoo Tycoon for hundreds of hours when I was a kid and didn't felt this overwhelmed like I do for Planet Zoo. But seeing your videos until now actually started to give me some motivation to play because you are showing that even with limited and simple detailing you can make your Zoo look amazing. So again thank you.

That was a lot of detailing, it felt like a lot more than in Cities too. The habitat turned out wonderful 😍, I love the sign on the front with the little prairie dog on the right, that's really cute. I bet all the kids coming into the Zoo and seeing this would drag their parents to it right away 😄

I love that map/plan that you drew! Super helpful to see a layout. I've just been building randomly but I would much prefer to work off of an overall plan to guide me, so that will serve as a nice inspiration to create my own. Still not sure about the micromangement aspects but Planet Zoo is very pretty, that's for sure. I love your scribbled plan too, your writing is worse than mine and that's saying something! 🤣😂 With the detail and customisation of the builds etc though, I can see why you love it, it's right down your street. I'm genuinely surprised you haven't gone to PO in CS though, that's basically what you're doing here.

You are incredibly skilled at creating these exhibits. That prairie dog habitat turned absolutely beautiful! I remember seeing wild ones in South Dakota as a kid, so I would spend a huge amount of time being utterly fascinated by this exhibit if I were a guest at Few Zoo. Again, outstanding job!

another great episode few! i always forget to add signs to my animal enclosures to say what's actually in there ... may i suggest some really big, tough, typical dog names for the prairie dogs? they're just so tiny and names like Buster and Rex would be too funny!

Really enjoying this guide. It’s taught me a lot. I have had a problem when trying to create the prairie dog enclosure. For some reason I only got one donation and no one else is donating! They mostly seem happy, are educated, have donation boxes by habitat boards/speakers and prairie dogs are happy with 100% enrichment. I can’t figure out what’s wrong! 😢

I love your idea of using the small logs to make a barrier for the pathway! I don't seem to have the smaller log in my construction inventory. Do you know what pack they are associated with or what do I need to research to unlock them? I only have hug thick logs which wont work for the pathways. Also, I love this series and thanks for such a great tutorial!

Thank you! So I use the Log Wall Log 1m for these pathways, it's a base game asset so should come up if you search that name! I then sink them into the ground so they aren't so tall!

I've seen that you can send your animal from trade center to quarantine then to their enclosure so they don't bring disease and they are fine (no broken legs or so)

Great vid, easy to follow along. When you say they will only live for 7 years - with 5x slower ageing, does that affect that number?

I know that this video was posted a whild back, so if anyone reads this, could you give me some insight? I made a hard shelter with bedding for 2 Aldabra Tortoise as closely as possible to the one in this video, however when i unpaused the game, It did not acknowledge it as a hard shelter. Then i tried different rocks and arranged them in a variety of different formats, I even added a rock bottom to the shelter, but to no avail. Finally, I placed down one of the wooden premade shelters. It was only then that the game recognized a hard shelter in the habitat. Anyone have a clue what I might have missed? Thanks again, FewCandy for your outstanding videos.

I have had similar issues before, I think a recent update changed the way that works which is super frustrating and has been hit or miss since using rocks. If there’s anyway you can hide roof pieces or construction pieces inside your rocks, that would fix it for you! Sorry I don’t have a better answer for you!

I have an important question plz... if you start a NEW Franchise zoo, but in your last zoo you researched and mechanic researched a bunch of zoo knowledge, does that all carry over to a NEW zoo, or do you have to start all over again from zero????

If you open a new zoo within the same franchise, then yes, all your research is copied over, and your animals in your trade centre are also shared, very handy indeed! If you started over with a whole new franchise, you start again from scratch!

If you want to have more than one mechanic so you can research more buildings stuff, do you need an extra workshop for each?

You need to select 'Align to grid' with your end piece selected, and make sure 'Square Edges' is ticked, then you can replace it with a square piece!

why does the end of the path at 10:13 have a straight edge with corners? how do I do that?

So you can get square edges if you 'align to grid' and choose the 'square edges' option (in the options, bottom right) that way you can piece together path units in a grid and create huge plazas or square edges path networks!

Yes... after a while it is inevitable unfortunately, but it takes a while and only really if you are super heavy on the number of build pieces, which is why in this series I don't go too nuts with small details. But you can control it somewhat by reducing the number of guests in your zoo.

I tried everything in this Guide Up to my first animal but i'm Not making enough Money. I have Shops, Tip boxes, my animals are Happy and still lose Money. 😥 I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
