Psychopathy is a brake invented to stigmatize violent individuals whose behavior is more in line with the animals that deep down we all are. Giving guilt and remorse, law and religion to inferior individuals is a tool of the powerful to keep the masses in line.

@user-vj6us1nn9q One can reconcile the understanding that humans are animals while also acknowledging that our ability of higher thinking enables us to construct a society that serves to benefit the majority, rather than the individual. Cultivating and strengthening our ability to feel remorse ultimately enables us to rise above our animalistic tendencies to cooperate rather than to tear down. Psychopathy or as you described it, our most basic tendencies, should be deprogrammed in us if we are to strive for a peaceful society. In a sense you’re correct. Morality and laws serve to control us but I’d argue that we NEED to be controlled, otherwise we regress. Psychopathy needs to be fazed out

I like how Denis plays with the expectations of his audience. Initially they get the impression that Feyd is an egomaniacal coward who fixes his fights. @dankblissey6162Ай бұрын
I don't know if they would have been crushed, the Harkonens were even richer than the Emperor himself, suppose that truly neutral ground was done, neither army was fighting on home turf, and they set up a battle. The Harkonnens would have the money to send many more men into battle, despite Atredies's far greater combat skills, I still think house Harkonnen could beat them. But in Dune, the goal wasn't to beat Atredies, it was to completely wipe them out, ideally no survivors at all, and they still had to assault a fortress city, rather than an open battle.
@teencommentАй бұрын
I love how this shows the Harkonnens in so many ways. Their savagery, their warped pageantry...and their cowardice. Their supposed "best" can't fight in the arena without them having to drug slaves out of fear one of them will get lucky. Also gets to show how well-trained the Atreides soldiers were. Even one of them was well trained enough that he was able to nearly be a match for Feyd.

It also shows that Fayd is a different kind of beast, he is craving the thrill of the kill in sadistic ways but he also wants to do it all himself, blade in hand, no middlemen or executioners. And even then he still enjoys it and respects his opponents when they actually fight him well and with intent to kill. And the Baron knows this and encourages him, which is why he gave the order for Lanville to not be drugged, the best of the Atreides soldiers they had captured, he did it for Fayds reputation as well as to give him a birthday gift, the chance to fight in a life and death struggle against one of the galaxys best.

A little detail that could be easily missed since it was cut out is that as Feyd throws his shield in 3:22, you could see the Atreides soldier do the Atreides salute possibly to acknowledge his desire for a fair fight.

Those who are calling Fayed Rautha weak This guy is not just some noble guy. He is the heir to an entire planet, heir to the richest family in the Imperium. Everything is fun unless something serious happens to him. They are never gonna take that risk. Given Julius Ceasre, Marcus Crassus and Pompey were there to fight against Spartacus and his rebel army consist of Gladiators. Now to boost the Roman Legions spirit it may be fun for the Triumvirate to have a duel with the Rebels but do you really think that they let it slide when the Gladiator gets upper hand. That’s what going in this Arena. Fayed rautha was a very good fighter he took Paul to his edge and injured him fatally.

I like how despite maniacal and psychotic Feyd-Rautha is, he was honorable in the fight. Granted, it might have been to get his adrenaline fix, but him scorning the guard and taking off his shield made him seem honorable. Feyd made this movie so fucking interesting.

The fact that 2 of the 3 Atreides soldiers were poisoned and injured on purpose before the fight... we now see that they'd have taken Feyd out. As for the 3rd Atreides soldier that was in good condition, he would've killed Feyd had it not been for the shield around Feyd in the first moment.

This wasnt some average joe Atreides soldier. The man he fought was a warmaster, a vet, an actual trained and well disciplined fighter and Feyd was matching him. If the other two weren’t drugged Feyd most definitely wouldve beat them because he beat someone of higher rank and skill
@machdude3366Ай бұрын
MY favorite part of this scene is when he evades the first exchange after turning off his shield and giving the Atreides fighter a wink. He doesn't have that zest when he first fought them and was more or less running on rage. The moment he realized he was getting a fight, he was ecstatic. The anger came later, but in the heat of the moment, it was real.
