FF&R: Fault find and repair range hood controller.

This is the light and fan controller from a kitchen range hood. It is a no brand cheapo unit and I thought it was finished but why not try see if I can fix it. An hour fixing it is way more fun than three hours shopping for a new one.

You are a superstar! Motor on my hood failed so I bought a replacement. That did not work either! Motor capacitor checked, I was ready to replace the PCB, then I found your clip! Your voice over was great at explaining your logic. I followed this to find a broken solder. Fixed that and the motor worked! Thanks so much.

I am looking for the same repair and I found your video. Perfect Video (required little bit more louder but its ok). I wish I have the same problem. I will check on coming weekend.

As a home DIYer meself, your vid is most amusing. It's like... turn on the camera and just record your musings and trial and error on the PC board and just test everything. Even thought you'd hit a dead end at one stage and was going to throw in the towel. Fair dinkum, I heard the motorbike racing down the street and I was waiting for you to say; "oh, here come the drugs, this project's going nowhere so let's bail and just get wrecked". Honestly though, I'm the same as you, never know when to quit and in the end, the stuff does gets fixed. You don't need to video the whole thing but. Keep up the fair work!

The transformer is available from R S components stock number. 7320360 …I changed one today 02:03:22

Thermal fuse, that what is wrong with the transformer. It is under the black plastic on the tfansformer, u need to break it off and it's under the tape

My kitchen hood front geatures and fan lights blinking when power on and then off and hood not start. Please tell me whats the problem

Great video. I’m having exactly this issue. Company says units obsolete, f””kers. Only problem is - I’m a gobshite. Never tested boards and also a soldering novice. But it’s a 15$ fix versus a 500$ new unit. Am I pissing on a violin, attempting to do it myself?
