Here I break down two variations of a takedown I love from judo, and show you how you can transition it from the gi to no gi.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments, as well as any other technique breakdowns you'd like to see in the future!

At long last a tutorial explaining how to get the best out of the opponent's grip rather than telling us "just break the grip, bro !"

I love that Ffion's videos are like in the 5-10 min range for instructionals. Coming from Danaher's, these are alot easier to digest and watch and rewatch.

Brill instructional for a super super handy take down! - seeing the contrast/translation into no gi was very helpful as someone who trains both as I'm sure many others here do as well!! Keep it up Ffion!!

A little detail that I hope nobody missed, but make sure you get your uke's arm to the front of your body (or russian tie) and prevent them from getting an underhook. If not, they can take their left foot forward and sweep you with an osoto gari or some hip toss.

Amazing! For the gi one, Is there likely risk to partner when we put our knee / shin against their knee just as we throw!? I imagine it only could hurt them if we drive forwards and not backwards?

Good question! But I think she wouldn't take such a risk. So I think perhaps the pro grappling level is so high that all she has to do is remove the crucial PRO LEVEL details that make her technique work vs other pro's, because there's still so much that is wholly unknown and deeply appreciated by dweebs like us.

Both techniques are great.... but neither are sumi-gaeshi. First is a variation of Tomoe-Nage (John Wick does it in the first movie) and the second is a variation of Sukui-Nage. (3rd Degree ⚫: Judo / 🟣 Jiujitsu)

mate this is a sports tutorial for a sport. in a real fight I'm sure everyone would be like chewing out their opponents eyeballs or something but sadly in BJJ there are things called rules that mean that some moves that aren't viable in a real fight become very effective very quickly in a comp
