DISCLAIMER: Windower is a third party program, and is technically against the game's Terms of Service. While it is generally regarded as safe to use most of it's addons, be aware that you do so at your own risk. I've never had any issues as long as you stay away from cheaty stuff like duping/speedhacking/botting. Again though, Use at your own risk.
This video is a tutorial on how to use the GearSwap addon in Windower4. I am not the author of this addon, nor do I consider myself to be an expert when it comes to programming, however I hope to give an insightful introduction and tutorial to what is probably the most used AddOn in the game.

I am glad to see someone is making some videos about this. One thing I did not hear you mention and seems to be a major problem beginners miss is to SAVE the updates before reloading the lua in game. So many times people forget to save and spend a lot of extra time trying to find an issue that doesn't exist.

Yeah, that and if they have their friend editing it and sending it to them they'll leave it in the downloads folder sometimes, I'll bring that up in part 2.

Writing scripts for Spellcast and Gearswap has been the most fun way ever to learn code. Haven't played in a long time and coming back for a free week is great. Thanks to Gearswap I'm still able to play the game as I've forgotten everything sinds (though it comes back very fast).

Bravo! Thank you for posting this. GearSwap is very overwhelming when you copy and paste someone else's script.! I've had this explained to me so it wasnt super helpful but Ill tell you. If this video was around when I was learning it. It would have been ALOT easier!! :)

Returning player guide: if you have to learn to program cheats in order to make a game playable, play something else instead.

I spent a ton of time learning and perfecting my SpellCasts. Once GearSwap came around I was VERY overwhelmed with the new addon because I could no longer play the way that I did. I wasn't very into learning a new scripting language just to play a game either. I tried copy/pasting gear into the prewritten LUA files but I didnt understand any of it. I also thought using ashitacast would work for me with the similar XML markup to SpellCast. There was little documentation on what I could actually do with it. The prewritten xml files looked very crude at the time. In the end I used the new equipment sets system just to get my main job functional again but it was never the same. Most of my friends were quitting at the time and it wasn't worth it to learn with so few left to play with. Sorry for the wall of text guys. This video gave me a bit of PTSD but I still gave you a thumbs up.

Really GearSwap is quite easy to use at a base level, you just have to be careful when copy/pasting. The biggest thing people do wrong is not having commas after each piece of gear, having extra commas, not having a {} surrounding a set, or having extra { or } next to a set. Every time I fix someone's file this is the issue like 95% of the time. When it's not that, it generally wasn't their fault because the file was broken before they got it... Though I must admit, gearswap is worth the change, this video doesn't even begin to cover what this can do.

@11:38 I mention checking the console window: You can press INS to keep the console window open so you can read it. I would have made this an annotation but KZfaq is getting rid of annotations on the 15 of January specifically to spite me.

This was a great guide, only thing would be good to share a blank "Skeleton file" that has all the gears removed as you just did, so i can export my gear .lua's from in game to. Other files im looking at doesn't seem to be clear, and im looking for a set just like that above with everything removed

In the interim, in the macro you put in /console input gs c command Example: I have F12 bound to cycle weapon lock mode like this: send_command('bind f12 gs c cycle WeaponLockMode') the in-game macro would be: /console input gs c cycle WeaponLockMode

This is a good video. It could be better if you slow down a bit on the actions you take. Around the 4:30-4:40 point when you started converting one .lua to another, you started deleting faster than I could really catch without scrolling back a couple times. A slower pace would be good for those of us who are completely new to GS .luas. otherwise...GREAT DELIVERY.

Heya, trying to figure out why "my" Lua isn't working. Please help ; ; The file is loading fine. Yet my gear doesn't swap. I've tried two different Lua's now. Currently working on Arislans - Do I need to paste a set into every single set function? Ie, I am very new - I don't have enough gear to fill all these scenarios. So for now I am basically looking to use a fast cast set for precast and a MAB for midcast. At first I tried to just use those function that were appropriate to this. Do i need to fill every gear set "brace" with some form of gear set? Hope I'm clear, I don't seem to getting anywhere.

Thanks for making this one! 1 million dollar advice: delivering your message by voice will be one hundred percent more effective with no background music. BGM doesn't add anything, but annoyance. Good job otherwise.
