I've started playing a lot of SGE but since I've already capped SMN and got a free SCH, I feel like I should learn to play it as well. However, I really struggle to heal with it in a dungeon. I find myself burning through all my AF stacks and having to spam Adlo. I don't know if it's the gradual accumulation of Addersgal that keeps me from doing that on SGE, but I don't seem to have that issue with SGE. I would love it if you could give some examples of how to heal in dungeons, like you did when you talked about mitigation for the tanks.

Recitation->excog on tank during pull, dot as you move, then sacred soil once they stop, art of war spam and lustrate/fairie abilities as needed, and don’t be afraid to sac your fairie for a fresh stack of aetherflow charges. This will usually get me through dungeon content

What Mark said is really good, I apologise I couldn't get any good example footage, as its on a tank per tank basis and exceptionally good tanks give me bad habits xD I'll go over this in my overall healer guide though so thank you for the feedback, appreciate it!

Recitation can be used on 4 skills including Adlo, which also grants Catalyze if the Adlo crits. If the Adlo heals for 8k, then the shield (Galvanize + Catalyze) will be around 30k. So how to use Recitation depends on your playstyle. If youre more into emergency heal, you can combo Recitation with Excog, but if youre more of shielding, you can combo Recitation with Adlo. You can even use Recitation + Emergency Tactics + Adlo, it will give around 35k of pure heal. During trash pulls, you can cast any kind of dmg reduction and regen for the tank, Sacred Soil + Whispering Dawn, and also Fey Union after Whispering/Fey Illumination, and Excog Protraction. After that, you can rotate between shielding and pure healing if still necessary. Adlo for shield, and Emergency + Adlo for pure heal, and Lustrate if necessary. Emergency Tactics is your friend for pure healing, use it before Adlo or Succor.

Don't forget about Fey Blessing and Aetherpact. Fey Blessing can quickly stabilize your tank if your GCD is still rolling and Aetherpact is fantastic for healing chip damage on anyone who isn't the tank. Neither of these need aetherflow stacks. Protraction is another underutilized skill. Protraction+Aetherpact on the tank can handle a lot of the sustain during pulls if you're out of aetherflow.

Some things I feel need mention: -Dissipation opener is really really great (swap the use of aetherflow and dissipation) as this enables earlier acess to the pet on top of lining up better for chain strat. -Important to note that Sacred soil takes a servertick to properly apply, so if you want to mitigate a raidwide you have to pop it 3 seconds before it comes out for the 10% mitigation. -Never underestimate the Prog power of recitation+addlo spread. Can make some mechanics much more relaxing to go through. Sidenote a recitation succor shield is about as strong as a "none crit" addlo spread. -Recitation Exgog > Recitation Addlo in between pulls in dungeons and then fish for crittlo's instead. Excog is sure not to be wasted whilst shields technically waste any healing that goes on until the tank actually drops in HP. -Disspation gives a "healing magic potency" buff, the same one as fey illumination so it only really works on Addlo/Succor (not sure if this was mentioned)

You mentioned pepsis and how you don't really use it. Pepsis is my "sorry I'm bad" consolation heal when I forgot there was an incoming raid wide and I shielded too late

Holminster is definitely a huge damage spike from the healing perspective, I remember when I started months ago it caught me off guard big time 😅

My fav healer ever, and first class plus SMN when I started the game years ago, tho I don't main heal atm. The military tactician + medic / arcane summoner aesthetic is awesome. Very impressive tools, Expedient must be cracked... Plus critlo on thrill war, me smooth brain like big numbers Love your rundown of Sch! It's cool you're enjoying it

Expedient is probably the most fun ability in the game honestly, its such a blast getting to use this ability and get full usage out of it. Big fan of the aesthetic too, I like how they name the abilities and such and just how well its kit works with each other

So a couple of quick things. I'm learning Scholar as well, It's actually become my main for Savage Raiding and a lot of this advice is great, the description and use of abilities is mostly spot on. However, this is more for raiding than dungeons, You should absolutely save Recitation for a massive AoE Shield. There are attacks that can near murder your group and having 50% more HP as a shield is no joke. Cast Recitation + Protraction on yourself, then Adloqium and Emergency Tactics. You can even use Swiftcast on the Adlo for a quick, massive shield. It will almost negate the boss's entire attack and leave you in a good spot for any subsequent raid wide AoEs. You should also Combining Wispering Dawn with Fey Illumination as much as possible, it increases it's potency as well and can basically heal an entire party up after a massive raid wide blast without you, or the other healer, having to use any other AoE healing.

Whispering Dawn and Fey Illumination don’t work with each other though I believe. Whispering Dawn is an ability and FI only increases spell healing, so GCD heals: Adlo, Succor, and Physick.

Wonderful guide to scholar! This helped me tremendously. I leveled my scholar to 90 and then swapped back to my white mage because I was more comfortable playing it. I've wanted to dig into scholar a bit more and learn more of the intricacies and spells. This video is so detailed and understandable! I also appreciate that you include examples of situations in raids and dungeons and what you would do.

Honestly only use my SCH for levelling and when going after some hunt mobs. Like playing it solo due to the constant fairy regen, but find WHM to be better at getting folks up quickly (non-party players, e.g. during fates). Switched to SMN for the dungeons and trials of the MSQ. Healing trusts in Shadowbringers on SCH was just too much of a pain, hence didn’t even try in Endwalker. That being said, your video does make me consider giving it another try.

Its definitely a fun job and it is really strong! its party utility is really good and everyone likes having a SCH in the team. Speed buff and crit buffs are always a welcome addition ! It definitely does feel painful to heal dungeons sometimes, but with enough practice and coming to terms with the kit it does start to make more sense

I wish Energy Drain had a higher potency, it just feels underwhelming to use. It's been so long since Drain has existed but it's still so pathetic.

@@brandismith9912 this isn't entirely bad though. Being stingy is perfectly ok, just keep your gcd rolling and don't let the DoT drop off. Remember to dump aetherflow on energy drain before getting a fresh set so you don't waste stacks

it really shouldn't. here's why overall 1 energy drain is, let's say, 3% of a sch's total damage rn. (don't know exact number.) Very small. If you can't optimize well enough with your cohealer on healing and have to use all your aetherflow stacks on heals, you only miss out on 9% damage. now, if we were to buff the skill energy drain, something else damage wise would have to be nerfed. if energy drain was just outright buffed sch's total damage potential would be much stronger than the other healers, so that's just not going to happen. they're not going to unbalance a healer just to make a random skill feel better to use. so let's pretend they DO buff the skill to make it stronger, while making something else a bit weaker to balance it. now energy drain is 10% of sch's total damage, that's a whopping 30% of sch's damage with all three energy drains. if you can't save all 3 each time, that's a HUGE chunk of your damage that is MISSING. you'll only be doing 70% of your potential. do you see why it's very important to keep the damage potency low of a resource that HAS to be EITHER damage or healing? if you tie too much worth to energy drain, schs will have to choose between losing damage or not healing.

I think they should just take the button away. I would make Aetherflow just use up the remaining Gem stacks do 100 potency each to enemies effected by Biolysis. That way, you can't just waste them on damage before your Aetherflow cooldown is done, and you still get that extra damage for the unused gems.

Do note that you said that Dissipation increases healing of all your skills, that is unfortunately false. It works on healing magic, and lustrate etc are abilities. Thus, it works on succor and adlo and physick, but not on the aetherflow skills you just gained. Overall, this is just borked design if you ask me. It can still be a boon, certainly with emergency tactics

I agree, it is botched design. But I do not say it increases all healing, I do specify shields and healing but I do understand how that can be interpreted as confusing, I should of been more specific and made a disclaimer that they do not work on oGCD heals

Starting off Scholar, it is very interesting, quite reactive when it comes to healing. I'm still trying to get use to the, Shield-healing aspect. Coming from WoW, its just a lot to wrap my head around.

Definitely requires a bit of practice, but keep at it! Honestly when leveling healing is really rough, but once you get to the level 78-80 range it starts to become a lot easier with access to more potent oGCDs and the likes

@@AzuriteTV Yep, I am currently 70, and I feel I just keep my aetherflow stacked, then I can just heal when need to, otherwise do Art of War on adds, group heal, then just instant heal on tank to keep him up, my fairy will keep most smaller damages topped up, its been a fun experience so far, I get worried when my aether flow on cooldown when DPS or Tank didn't dodge obvious areas on the floor, I just resort to spamming group heal until everyone is topped up.

I find myself using Emergency Tactics more often than needed. It works kinda like Eukrasia from Sage, but in the reverse so I binded it to the same key lol. Great video btw!

The Glamour is Moonward healing gear, it use to be a tome purchase bit I believe (?) It can now be bought via sacks of nuts at the hunting vendor in Old Sharlayn or however the heck its spelt... you got lucky I guess 🤭

I use never Energie drain by the scholar. It is to weak to use and i like it more, to keep my aetherflow points be save, for the cases, when i need them.

System - HUD Layout - Click your gauge, then click the cog next to "current UI element" and check the box "Switch Job Gauge to Simple Mode"

I deleted energy drain from my bars... I never use it. It wastes my aetherflow for a 100 potency attack.. If it were 200 or even 250 we're talking, but this is just underwhelming as hell.

I came here because I was looking to improve my Raid opener, but apparently this isn't the place. Mine is: Protraction at -8, Whispering Dawn, Recitation, Adloquium, Deployment tactics, Broil, Aetherflow, Biolysys, Energy Drain, Energy Drain, Broil, Energy Drain, Broil, Chain Stratagem, Broil, Expedient, Broil, Fey Illumination, Broil, Dissipation. swap around Exp and FI depending on when the first raidwide comes out, maybe put another Broil, Fey Blessing if it's a particularly heavy raidwide. This has worked wonders when progressing P3S and P4S. It lets me line up my buffs to certain mechanics without drifting a cooldown too long or needing it while it's still on cooldown.

Good guide as always. I never knew what deployment tactics ever does since HW and never use it, but now I know what it meant for lol. I used to hype so much for SGE but now I went back to my starting class SCH because I enjoyed SCH much more than SGE. Maybe it's just me but I feel like SGE's AoE heals sucks. I keep struggling to heal party during continuous raid wide aoe but with SCH I can do it with ease.

Generally I throw up physis then follow up with no kerchole, panhaima orrr holos or some combination. I feel like I’ve latched onto sage because it plays with more like a tank logic. Generally I feel wanna be a bit more proactive for the damage. To be fair I haven’t touched any other healer and they’re all 60ish or lower so I may change my tune at some point. I definitely struggle when the party is taking unnecessary damage

@@DragonAbyssal yesss. Exactly. Last night I did extreme trials with 2 sages. And both of them struggled so hard to heal party. No need to say took unnecessary dmg, the one did will die for sure since they can't burst single heal when they're out of AG. And their aoe cd so darn long, no way it can be spammable. I just laughed when we conceded the trial because it was expected lol.

This set is just the full Moonward gear which can be bought with non weekly lockout tomes which you get when you complete the Endwalker story and get access to Endgame, hope that helps! :)

Scholar is better at raw shielding, but Sage has more tools for consistent mitigation and actual ogcd shields so it depends

Hey correct me if I'm wrong but my sch is 90. And when you summon seriph you can use fey blessing and fey illumination. It changes the name to something else. But I believe it just does the same thing.

Correct! The icon changes but the potency remains the same, honestly not sure why they bothered with this, maybe I should of mentioned this but because nothing changes I didn't feel like I needed to say this. But thank you for commenting this, I appreciate it regardless!

You can still use fey illumination and whispering dawn, and they are still named the same thing. I don't believe you can use fey blessing though with seraph

I would suggest not going from max scholar to sage back to scholar. You'll hate life. Especially Holminster and beyond. Once you do SGE, going back to SCH feels like you're playing at half speed. This is for dungeons primarily since alot of Duty Finders yoink all your good tools. You'll want to do 80+ content exclusively to get your tools.

The full set is the Moonward gear, so the boots are also moonward. You can buy this gear from the vendors at Radz-at-Han for the non lockout tomes. Hope this helps!

I used to main sch in shb but then swapped to ast towards the end. but now sch feels good again. and the delay of the fairy skills are somewhat better. but I do main sge as it's so smooth.

SPS in an optimised environment is actually really good. With a 2.32 GCD it outweighs the other options and gives you consistency - the current bis uses this and gives a slight advantage over other sets. Besides that you would normally play with 2.4 gcd to gain a proper alignment for dot and snack / chain

There isn't any such thing as Extreme dungeon content, but once you complete the EW MSQ you can unlock EX trials and level 90 dungeons, most of the quests for these should be dotted around Old Sharlayan with blue markers shown on the map

I've always hated the design of the scholar. They give you a second resource you have to balance to choose between DPS or doing your better heals. I don't know, always seemed kinda stupid to me. I guess I always liked the idea of being the one solely in control of doing the heals and not relying on a pet to do the job for me, and nowhere near as well.

Yeah I dislike it too, I get that it is an alternative healer to Sage for that kind of min/maxing but it feels kinda off and makes the job less approachable imo. Energy drain should just get a trait, make it energy drain 2, give it a 60 second cooldown and 300 potency, no DPS lost, lines up with raid buffs and you don't have to pick between DPS or heals... that's just my take anyways

How do you still have a TP bar? Tactical points isnt a thing after Stormblood...The Devs took it out of the game completely.

It isn't TP, it's the fairy gauge. I just moved it to where the TP bar use to be

When expedient was announced and people praised it for being good in raids and very useful on a class known as the "Scholar" who uses "fairies" to "heal", but it encompassed none of those things while also being the final ability learned by this class to show mastery of all of its other abilities, I knew that it was time for me to get off the ride...

Well Scholar also has the military tactician aesthetic going on for it so an ability that encourages your party to sprint and take less damage is kind of in line with its theme :)

Rotation?? Healing is very unpredictable, you can't have a rotation.

The voice changes DRASTICALLY when talking about chain stratagem. Throughout the video his tone is bright and perky then when he talks about chain stratagem he quiets down so much and is like he’s ashamed and muffling his voice. Like he is resentful that he has to talk about it and playing it down. I’m not saying that’s his message, but just listen to the massive change in his tone when he talks about chain stratagem. Listen, don’t believe his non verbal communication. Chain stratagem is the ONLY reason why anyone plays scholar in raids. Period.
