I can confirm that as of 03/09/2021 that this method still works, I would recommend just doing "Dance, Magic Dance" levequest which is based in Dravanian Hinterlands the area is small, you clearly see if there is a chest and is very fast.

Drop rate is almost the same - I got 29 vilekins in 98 leves = just under 30% drop rate. This is a way more effective way of getting sand than burning through poetics to get Thavnairian Mist/Enchanted Ink (particularly as I never do leves anyway) and those poetics can now be used exclusively on umbrite. Thanks Mrhappy! :)

This is awesome happs, worked for me. Can't stand how much this has effected the price of elemental materia iv's, but i guess thats how the world works.

Large scale leves work just as well (costing 10 leves though) they drop 5 vilekin if you get a coffer chest pop. and you do this with a friend at the same time to increase your chances or number of times getting vilekin as the chest will pop for you and him/her.

20.2.2022. Picked up levequests from Ishgard to this very location. Tried each levequest on Difficulty: Recommended lvl +0, found none treasure chests. Simply abandoned them in the questlog and selected retry, initiate, and changed difficulty to "recommended level +1", searched again & found some chests. Simply repeated this and found even more and more chests. Simple and easy. Cheers for the video! Much appreciated 💖

Guys. Please use this method to prevent yourself from loosing your marbles. Previous to this, I was wasting gil on demimateria and the Poetic stuff when I could. Used 100 leves and got around 19 sands. Let them build up to about 40 leves, got another 15. I no longer need sands and I may have some left over depending on my bonus' as I'm 190/240. The one I used was Dance, Magic, Dance.

2 crystal sand is equivalent to 5 blue crafters' scrip token 5 blue gathers' scrip token (I don't craft or gather, but considering it) garlond steel (6000 gil), celestine (7300 gil), high allagan chimera leather (8-14000 gil) (tradable) amber-encased vilekin (very little info on the wiki, so glad i came here) fire (one in stock: 100000gil) , wind, lightning materia IV (tradable) ice, earth, water materia IV (tradable) 3 battle (2400 gil) and 3 field craft (33,000 gil) demimateria I 2 (700 gil) for II (1800 gil) (tradable) 5 moonstones (20000 seals) inverno horn (9000 gil) , crag heart (16000 gil), diamon tear (1913 gil)(tradable) vortex feather (200 gil), barb of the whorl (6400 gil) , large levin orb (6000 gil) (tradable) 5 superior enchanted ink and 5 thavnairian mist (225 tombstone) 2 mhachi farthing (found at void ark) and 5 allagan catalyst (125 gil) (catalyst tradable) unidentifiable bone, shell, ore, seed (600 tombstone)(24 vanu bones) (bone for precision gordian bolt in fist of the father A1 *3) (shell for precision gordian lens from cuff of the father A2 *3) (ore for precision gordian spring from arm of the father A3 *3) (seed for precision gordian shaft from burden of the father A4 *3)

After about spending 100k gil on other things, I happened to find this method in a google search. In 100 leves I maybe got 18 vilekin. I hear your chances are better if you work with a partner who has the same leve(s). Still very slim drop rate. I'm about halfway through the top bar. 51/240. Also, if you have some friends who don't mind running Aetherochemical about a dozen times with you, that is still the best lore farm there is. Of course, my friends and I like to switch it up and do the past expert roulette dungeons and the current ones for some good lore as well. Of course defaulting back to Aetherochemical at times. I am doing the "Show your Work" Leve in the Churning Mists area. I find it to be quite fast. The most simple way to do it is to set yourself at an island just out of the reach of the spawning monsters and then fly up to see the field. You still have to fly around, but the chest drops on the same level as the monsters so it's more like a 15 sec scan, land on island, dismount, abandon, retry, repeat. And if you can get two people to do it, you and one other, you can both be on opposite sides of the leve, one on the north, one on the south. It's also better if you both have it as well so the one on the north can be landed on an island and the south can stay flying. and that method only takes about 8 secs to search, partner (or you) abandon, retry, repeat. Since both of you have two areas of the leve to scan for it, it is so much quicker. Even if your partner doesn't hold it, let you be the one to stay stationary. So much faster.

So as of 11/1/2017, I can confirm this is still working. The drop rate seems to be on par with what Mr Happy is showing in this video. Using 100 leve Allowances, I walked away with 21 Vilekin. I didn't get my first drop until I was about 25 leves in, so I thought it wasn't working. While Mr Happy estimates around a 25% drop rate, I like to think of it as more of a 75% chance you get no coffer. Yeah, I know it's the same thing, but it felt like I was getting nothing.

98 leves, 22 drops. Thanks for the tip Happy :)). Also if any of you have 50000 Grand company seals just sitting there, you can grab Moonstones. Then trade in all you old loot that your retainers are hording for more seals then repeat.

I did this to get my music months ago. I recommend western coerthas though. the leve area is much smaller and you will see a chest within seconds if it spawned

I recently returned to the game and begun to gather luminous crystals for my relic weapon, but I'm a bit uncertain if its worth it. There are those in my FC that has spent weeks farming the crystals and still aren't finished, is the relics really worth all that grinding?

This Still Works and the ratio is now 2/1 2 sand for 1 amber !!!

Can someone explain this to me please? When it comes to alocating the stats on the wep? What do i need to do in order to advance into the next step? Do i need to put all points into one stat or just get to 240 points? I've looked everywhere and no one explains how to do that part properly, only how to farm the stuff for the sand.

Still working 6/14/22. 16 chests out of 100 leves. Took me about 20 leves to realize chests could spawn in areas I wasn't watching for, so maybe add a couple to that.

If you aren't getting enough vilekin, then you are not doing the exact leves Mr. Happy suggested to do in this video. They are the lvl 58. Battlecraft leves you get at the Levemete in Foundation near the Skysteel Manufactory aether teleport. Go NE and you can't miss him. Take the exact 3 Mr. Happy shows you in his quest journal in this video: Dance, Magic Dance; Necrologos: His Treasure Forhelen; and Whither the Morbol Goeth. They WILL drop the chests, just maybe not as many as 27. I got 5 vilekins from 61 allowances repeating one leve quest in the Churning Mists just North of Moghome. I decided to do it Mr. Happy's way in the Hinterlands with the 3 battlecraft leves he mentions in this video, and out of 38 allowances, i got 10 vilekins! I wish I had followed his instructions sooner other than thinking I knew better.

Spawn rate must be low, im currently 7/50. Still if 14 of 100 that saves me 14x225 = 3150 tomes update: 20 ambers from like 120 tryes.

Definitely doing this before a hotfix happens.

tried with Falcon leves .... got only 6 chests in 50 leves retries. That seems like an aweful waste of resources if you encounter bad rng :'(

Is there a reason the leves are not staying in the journal after they're abandoned?

How many sands and umbrites (is that what they are called?) do you need to complete the weapon? That's the part I'm not 100% sure on yet because I'm hearing different things and seeing different numbers.

I am from the same server but I hardly see you in Idyllshire or any common gathering place? I have only seen you in GS and in one raid. when do you play do you have some invisibility stuff or something?

After seeing this i went and tried it. after the first 20 leve only 1 has 1 chest. This is either bad rng or the 7 others here poping it up is affecting it. Maybe there is a chest limit.

okay, so it is possible to get a coffer if a bounty spawns, I was doing this one in the video "Dance, Magic Dance" and the bounty Tcaridyi spawned next to a coffer by the little hill you see at 2:34 in the video

I got 15 vilekins out of 99 allowances using this method. Never saw a double chest (lucky dawg!). But there seemed to be some controversy about no chest spawning when you see the bounty. This is not true! I have seen the bounty AND gotten a chest on the same leve. fyi. :)

12% drop rate on "Dance, Magic Dance" levequest for me... I have bad luck I guess :P
