I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this theme. On the one hand, I really like it for that feeling you described, that feeling of pushing through and struggling and when the music swells it feels like the tide is turning in your favor, that you're almost there and just gotta push a bit farther. That said, I initially didn't like the fact that the theme is used for a ZONE. I felt like it would have felt better in a dungeon or some cutscene or some such. I'm not musically savvy but certain parts of the music feel like they're on this constant andante tempo, the kind that says go go go go go... Which felt odd to have used in a zone.

We freed a nation, and won an army, while people are planning for the invasion in Rhalgr off screen. We had numerous setbacks, until finally succeeding in beating the bad guy after we'd been gut punched by him two times already, on top of all the other terrible things that happen in this expac Yeah, totally, no problems or setbacks at all. Wtf story did YOU play?

I have my issues with the Stormblood MSQ myself but most of what you mention is explained by the story. |There is no mentioning of heavy casualties, the Empire never fights back beside that one point at the start where they just stopped.| Yeah, because Zenos isn't in his right mind. He shows up, beats the WoL handily (the strongest resistance member) and then sees the entire chore of killing pathetic Ala Mihgans as beneath him. His whole thing is to foment hatred to cultivate better opponents. It's why he kept Fordola around, why he doesn't give a fuck about Doma and has essentially put Ala Mihgo on autopilot. I repeat, Zenos wasn't in his right mind the entire expansion. I think that's a lame rationale for the MSQ but apparently SE thinks differently. |Doma? What a fucking Joke. No resistance at all beside some guys fighting back when you invade what was left over after the terrorist attack on the castle, probably killing dozens and hundreds of civilians inside.| Zenos doesn't give a shit about ruling Doma. He sticks Yotsuyu there to abuse Domans with the express purpose of trying to create someone strong enough to entertain him. Until the WoL shows up Doma is a broken nation of peasant farmers. The garrison stationed in Doma in theory hasn't had a real resistance (read: you) in years. When Hien floods the place and sends the WoL in, they're caught completely off guard. The bosses are all Magitek and Hypertuned Grynwaht is an unstable experiment who basically admits he's gonna die the minute the fight starts. |while the alliance is mainly slaughtering people from Ala Migho, Doma and other countries, who want to become Empire citizens and got no probleme with the new leaders. All those people got families by the way. Partens, sisters and brothers, children and so on. They are now dead and it's pretty hard to explain that to their families why exactly some people from other countries killed them during their invasion.| That's how war works. If you get pressed into service and end up on the losing side you could get killed. If you sympathize with the enemy and end up on the wrong side of liberation you're going to be seen as a criminal. Innocent people die in wars because ultimately wars don't care about individuals. See: Heavensward.

Arriving at the Lochs first time during night time, you finally see the lights of Ala Mhigo flickering in the distance after going through all of the hardships. Then this theme plays, it was easily one of the most memorable moments in the game so far!

When I got to this zone, it was night time and foggy. All I could see was a vague shape of torches burning in the darkness. All i could tell was that it was huge, and didn't get to see it until several quests later when the sun finally rose.

This is such a satisfying "Final area" feeling to it. My only wish is that it worked like Azys La,. where the music would persist thru combat. Still an amazing track tho.

I know it's from a year ago, but you can actually do this! If you go to System Configuration, you can check the box off on "Enable Normal Battle Music".

To me, I see it as Ala Mhigo's Ishgard theme. It has that heroic feeling while being different enough to feel like its own thing.

3:45 - 4:25 This part for me represents Stormblood. Every struggle every cry every blood that's been spilled over the battlefield and every tear that drops for the joy of winning Ala Mhigo back and having the last stand.

Masterpiece. Those trumpets, those violins, those drums (and every single other instrument present)! It is such an intense theme and I feel so incredibly emotional whenever I listen to it, the first time I actually almost cried. This is how a song should be prior a last fight, it reminds you of everything you went through to get there and it makes you feel prepared to succeed. And probably with a heartbreak knowing stormblood is ending and/or whenever you exit the zone. To the latter no matter, I have this video. Thank you for posting it!

@@ItsSauIGoodman nah man stormblood is the peak of FF14 and its not even close. theyve gotten too lax on making content now and the story lost the groundedness that made it feel like the characters were a small part of bigger things. now you basically have the Z fighters killing god every other patch.

As others have said, I love this track. It has that "finally at the top of the mountain, with the final battle looming within reach, time to gear up and make the final march" feel to it. So much emotion and anticipation in this theme.

This theme is just so excellent and epic. It's like heroic+dramatic cutscene music, it's just that good. Honestly, it's TOO good to just be zone music, but when your OST has such a consistently high quality all the time... it's hard to not make tracks TOO good!

This is so amazing the first minute it feels like a desperate struggle and you have this feeling deep down that you know you will lose then 1:23 comes in and you feel like looking up one more time to look at death's face and say "Not yet." Definitely one of the best songs in Stormblood coming in a close second to Doma's funky theme.

I'm a tad annoyed by people just before SB came out saying that the music wasn't good compared to HW. They're both very good, but SB music has been just absolutely amazing. When those heroic sounding horns come in at 1:22 and you see the massive fortress city of Ala Mhigo it's just...amazing. I got chills the first time, I'll never forget it. A fantastic expansion and there's so much more to come with 2+ years of story updates haha.

ExireHG Honestly, Stormblood's music was fantastic. I don't remember EVERY area's theme (Dravanian Forelands and The Ruby Sea are the forgettable ones of each expansion for me), but Soken really stepped his game up. Heavensward still holds a special place in my heart, but Stormblood imo did what Heavensward did, and improved upon it by a LOT.

Oh God. That was a pain. Finally realized that you had to go 1) North to the Tombs of Kings then 2) West and South through the Royal Hunting Grounds and, lastly, 3) Jump down to the wall. >.

The funny thing Jared, is that the first Aether Current is the only tricky one, and it's not that bad. One of the quests sends you to the tomb to kill Specters, and if you follow the fairly obvious path west, that's exactly how you reach it and it's very linear and obvious. So if one waited for all the Current-giving Quests before hunting down the open world currents, you'd probably stumble on it. But most, like me, are not so patient and like to explore FIRST.

Those goddamn trumpets. It just sums up SB for me. The struggle, fighting with our comrades, Lyse comes to mind, for the freedom of Ala Mhigo, at last, this music combined with the cheers when you get close to the end... You feel like you can take on the entire world yet there is always a bit of uncertainty about what's to come. Absolutely fantastic, can't put everything into words you know?

I have to agree. I finally went around this past week collecting aether currents since I finished 5.1's quests, and was exploring trying to find them and... I wish it had been used more.

I immediately fell in love with this theme when I first heard it in the scenario trailer a couple weeks ago, and I love it even more now that I've gotten to hear it in the game. I do feel like maybe it's a bit too... intense, maybe? ...to be used as a permanent ambient zone theme, but I can't deny that it felt really good to hear this track come in the first time I zoned into the Lochs, especially since it fit the atmosphere of the MSQ perfectly at that time.

3:20 I remember swimming down there and getting creeped out. Was half expecting to just see something weird down there, maybe a skeleton or a giant dead something that the Garleans ditched in there or the Ala Mhigans killed decades ago. Then seeing the statue, and eventually the calcified city through the murk really sealed the deal.

Love the trumpet part so much, simple yet full with emotions. Spoiler: . . . . I love after going back to Porta Praetoria after the royal menageries, when you get close to most of the NPCs they turn to you and cheer and clap even before you start speaking, the feel they actually cares and welcomes you back is so good. These details add so much to the experience after a triumph event. And the entire triumph against imperials filled me with tears when putting myself into the perspective of all those who fight for Ala Migo for decades, died or have their friends died, and eventually comes to taking back their home.

Such incredible music for a zone with so much missed potential, compared to the other zones, this one as well fell flat with a lot of Gyr Abania, it felt extremely unfinished and empty, and the questing was 1/4 of the time of any other zone, really hope they're setting it up for something interesting in the patches to come :(

I have to ask. Yes I know I am over 4 years late, but does anyone other then me notice that the music in most open field areas is a rendition(or remix whatever) of one of the dungeons in that specific areak. Example, The Lochs, both Day and Night. You can hear pieces of the music from Skalla and Ala Mhigo(Dungeon) in it. (The Azim Steppe is good example too. It's highly noticable. (Bardams Mettle)

One of my favourite parts of dungeons is recognising parts of the area themes in the composition. It is a trend that continued on to Shadowbringers, perhaps even more evidently (The Heroes' Gauntlet being a combination of all area themes that preceded it)
