for me personally having to count to 123 consistently while doing raid mechanics while pressing your ogcds while looking at your job passive buffs and ability gauge stuff, teammates debuffs ect, it really makes a difference and creates this tension I just dont feel on viper or picto. a huge learning curve for me was not accidently press 2 twice while weaving several things and focusing on mechanics ect. it creates this rhythm sense of flow.

They should all be placed on one button. There is never a single instance when a combo ability is pressed out of order and they just take up real estate that could be better used elsewhere. If someone feels like pressing 1 2 3 instead of 1 1 1 is in any way related to skill, that says more about them than they realize. They should put them all on one button and give the option to break them apart if desired. Some jobs, like Samurai would likely not want the stacked ability regardless due to the 3 combos with 1 root ability. SAM would definitely not benefit from the baby's first combos that the viper has, though.

With how little skill expression there is in jobs after they get simplified every single expansion I will take literally anything I can get The real estate we gain from putting 1-2-3 on to one button isnt going to be used to give jobs some other type of depth.

Its crazy to me that they added Moulinet Duex and Moulinet Trois and made them a combo extension, and didn't do the same to the single target version.

Pictomancer's Substactrive Pallete literally locks you out of your Red, Green, Blue spells. Why aren't Yellow/Magenta/Cyan just replacing them for the duration?

@@GrimMobius Or Star Prism which can only be used with a buff gained from Starry Sky, but it doesn't replace Starry Sky on the bar, and has to be its own separate button bind, or 'render Hammer' and 'use Hammer attack' being seperate buttons, when on earth am I going to paint another hammer without using the first one? Sometimes SE consolidates the stuff that doesn't need consolidating, and other times the stuff that makes sense to consolidate, they leave alone. There's no rhyme or reason to it

About the paintings (motifs and muses). Creature motif and living muse should be one button since you wont paint wings without having used the poms etc etc. (Mog/madeen not include because you can paint the next one while saving them for burst) Hammer motif and steel muse. We only have one weapon so this could go both ways in the future. Either new weapons get added to weapon motif (likely since its called weapon motif in the base form) and thus is just the same as creature/living so combine into one button. OR we get new weapons as separate buttons and have flexibility in choosing which weapon we want, so they stay separated (less likely because then why have a steel muse, just use the motif as the muse button too). Landscape motif and scenic muse. Are we... getting another buff? I dont see us getting another one in the future... why two buttons?

Same. I was at my comfort limit in EW, and now I've got two additional buttons. I also do a bit of point-and-click activations with a extra-large hotbar in the middle of my HUD, so that alleviates some of it for me (but this is often inconvenient). I've got 6 buttons down the left side of my keyboard, 5 of which are 'comforable' (with either pinky finger or a quick jump with my middle finger), but I've got to now use that 6th one, which almost always requires a quick glance down to locate accurately.

People who use 5,6,7,8 aren't comfortable but apparently they don't know any better The real solution is to use 1,2,3,4 (optional 5) and the keys surrounding WASD

As a GNB who regularly clears bosses after the rest of the party has died, I genuinely don't bother to do that because i want to kill the boss faster, so I continue to so 1-2-3. Unavoidable damage doesn't come fast enough for me to *NEED* to do 1-2 skipping to survive bosses. Plus, that's what Aurora and Heart of Corundum are for.

@@TheOneGreat I've messed up 1-1-1 or 1-1-1-1 (PLD's Confeitor combo) more often than I've messed up its 1-2-3 Royal Authority combo. By far. It's not even close. The 1-1-1 is just as easy to mess up as 1-2-3. The trick is to have multiple things going on at the same time that players are juggling and that have interactions. GNB also has a 1-2-3 and a 1-1-1 (Gnashing Fang, call it AB-AB-AB because of Continuation weaves), but you can break the 1-1-1 if you continue the base combo (e.g. hit 1-AB-AB-2-...now you broke the AB and can't use the final GF combo ability or its Continuation). Imo, 1-1-1 is easier to mess up since you can lose where you are in the combo easier (especially if the animations are the same or similar) and accidentally break out of it by going into or progressing one of your other combos.

I am 100% in agreement, they've given us the ability to chose if we want Fight or Flight -> Goring Blade, I think it's fine for let us build our own "Combo Binding" especially for the controller players

The people against its main argument is that it would be less fun hitting 1-1-1-1-1-1 than 1-2-3-1-2-3. So, i can certainly say i do probably more enjoy hitting 1-2-3 than I do 1-1-1-1-1-1 (based on your bard description). As I know I have way more fun when bloodletter procs on BRD than I do when it does. So, the point being give people the option. The issue then becomes the min-max will likely be upset because now they feel they may HAVE to run as 1-1-1 because it will likely be an increase of dps or be more consistent which then ruins their fun of going 1-2-3. I get the argument on both sides, but if ANYTHING I would like to see an overhaul of job mechanics more than I'd like to see the team find some way of making all jobs work on a 1-1-1-1 main rotation. Then to add on here with how much people complain about homogenization we would have people be saying "Why does X job have 1-2-3 on one button but your job design of my job doesnt allow it and will you be making it possible?" That alone is enough for me to say I'm good. I'm fine with way things are in their current state at least until larger sweeping changes come poasibly in 8.0 and onward.

i find it staggering how many people will still start arguments that pressing 1-2-3 is the best and people should just shut up about the boring 1-1-1...when the whole point of it is to make it an *optional* change that you can toggle, not to force everyone into it. Like, give it two seconds of thought, lol.

They could definitely use some of the new ideas from VPR and PCT on other jobs on certain basic abilities to reduce button bloat and make room for new, awesome abilities.

Agreed. I would love to see PvP type combos, with the option to split them if desired (they just added the option for some things, so just expand that). Speaking of keybinds, yours are less insane chaos than mine, guaranteed. I don't use anything remotely normal.

I think for older jobs, they could make it a toggle. I wouldn't mind if the RDM melee combo instead became one button, or say, after using your gap closer your Jolt turns into the melee combo, but then again this will be tricky to do in a way that doesn't ruin everybody's muscle memory and keybinds.

Muscle memory is easy: Just put the one button on your 1, 2, and 3 keys. If you did that, nothing would change for you. Though I do agree optional is better than not. But the 1-2-3 combos date back to ARR when we had half the keybinds we do now and needed to fill out more. That isn't needed now. Other than Jobs with branching combos (WAR and SAM come to mind), or with some special thing with its combo (MNK comes to mind, though it could technically work with just two buttons like VIP does...), 1-1-1 is the same as 1-2-3. WAR/NIN have 1-2-3/1-2-4, SAM has 1-2-3/1-4-5/1-6, and MNK has 1-2-3-4-5-3-1-5-3-4-2-6-... So in those cases, it makes sense to have more buttons since that's a key part of the gameplay, not just a filler that you never change the order of. But the 1-2-3s that never change (e.g. PLD's 1-2-3 Royal Authority combo or RDM's melee 1-2-3 combo), it's kind of pointless having three buttons.

Yeah, I was hoping they were going to put in an option to combine the basic combo, at least with the new system they put in DT. But all they did was change barrel stabilizer to full metal, I also don't understand why we need to have a bunch of dead skills on our bars. That do nothing outside of "empowered" stages like for example Auto crossbow does nothing. Outside of overheat, why is scatter gun simply not just turning in to auto crossbow during heated, how is pressing 6 vs shift 6 any different.

While i agree with general sentiment, the "it's a game, can we have fun?" Is a poor argument due to fun being subjective. For the sake of argument you find easier classes more fun, while i find harder classes fun. Thats's the issue we both want to have fun... (Ofc the example is just hypothetical i honestly dont care)

The most important thing is that 1-2-3 combos are weak filler abilities, only taking the place of hotkeys, of which there are about 10 more IMPORTANT abilities, and which in fact also represent 4-5 6-7, etc. Most games have come to 4-6 keys that really combine into something interesting, and not just cause different amounts of damage.

5:10 Nah even on WAR you can get its 4 buttons basic rotation down to 2, just have the whole thing rotate together like on Viper, one button is Storm's Path the other is Storm's Eye, so you'd change your rotation from 1-2-3 and 1-2-4 to 1-1-1/1-1-2/2-2-2/2-2-1/1-2-1/2-1-2 etc. Only your 3rd press would have to be deliberate, and quite frankly I think most people would go 1-1-1, 1-1-2, and 2-2-2 in practice. The only honestly tricky one is MNK. The core rotation part can be done just fine of reducing 9 buttons into 3. You'd end up with buttons for [Bootshine (Leaping Opo) > True Strikes (Rising Raptor) > Snap Punch (Pouncing Coeurl)], [Dragon Kick, > Twin Snakes > Demolish], & [Arm (Shadow) of the Destroyer > Four-point Fury > Rockbreaker] and all 3 would rotate based on current stance. Problem ends up being Perfect Balance and how to still choose which skill to use without being clunky in the moment. Best options I can think of on the fly would be having a player assigned "Perfect Balance" shift assigned to each one, but I don't think it'd actually work out. The other would be to create new moves that each of the buttons switch to similar to how Dancer Steps works. Most other melee's could be spared at least 5 buttons easily 3-4 of which from their core rotation. The ranged group is a bit less condensing friendly, but I'd still say most could drop 2-3 buttons. Oddly Enough, Picto could have 5 less buttons easily since the 3 Motifs and Muses have no reason to be separate buttons, Star Prism could be just fine being a follow up to Starry Muse, and lastly Holy in White can't be used while Comet in Black is available as is.

THANKS, I've been saying this since the start of Shadowbringers. I am glad that more voices start.... Well... Voicing it out. Not only is it an opportunity to introduce more skills without disturbing the hotbars much in the long term, but also an elegant solution to button bloat in the short term.

All of the jobs need to be modernized in a fun way like Viper and Picto are. If someone thinks the game or their job would become too easy because their main combos are condensed into non-breaker combo actions then your job wasn't fun or difficult to begin with. Even Reaper does this to an extent, but because of how few buttons it already has to hit I find its 123 somewhat justified due to its modern toolkit being based around that design

Some people believe that 1-2-3 has an inherently higher chance to mess up, than a 1-1-1, in the heat of combat (especially when doing hard mechanics like you'd find in Savage/Ultimates). I myself have completed Ultimates, and find myself breaking the occasional 1-2-3. The crux of the matter is the question: 'If the 1-2-3 combos were consolidated into 1-1-1, what would SE replace that skill expression (no matter how small it may be in your opinion) with?'. And the answer is simply 'we don't know, but all known evidence points to 'nothing''. So, with the assumption that SE would add nothing to replace that 'skill expression', and effectively lower the skill floor and skill ceiling again, it's understandable why some would be against the removal. We've already lost so much complexity over the years that Yoshi-P himself says 'we might have gone too far', so it makes sense to me why people would want to preserve that which remains even more. You can see the same arguments playing out with Positionals on Melee The other question is 'where do we draw the line?'. You brought up Solid Barrel combo on GNB from PVP. But in PVP, that button also turns into Burst Strike after pressing Solid Barrel. Should that happen in PVE too? Should SAM have an option where pressing Meikyo to get all 3 stickers, turns into Gekko/Kasha/Yukikaze, so you can just press that one button 4 times to get all the stickers for Midare? Should BRD and DNC's procs replace the base action that procced them on the bar, so you can press 11111 on BRD to auto-spend any Refulgent procs? What about a system that checks how long a duration your DOTs as BRD have remaining, and swaps Burst Shot to Iron Jaws when the DOTs have less than 6s left (for people who don't like DOT management)? This is a bit of the Slippery Slope fallacy, yes, but there are genuinely people out there who play this game, who would not only say 'yes' to this kind of stuff, but would actively ask for it. 1-2-3 getting changed to 1-1-1 is like the dam holding those asks back, once that change happens, the floodgates will open. IMO, anyone who wants to press 1-1-1 instead of 1-2-3, there's Jobs with that system in the game to play. Healers, SMN, now PCT and VPR. Same as my mindset for positionals, if you want to play a melee that doesn't have positionals, there's PLD, WAR, DRK and GNB for that

In some cases 1 1 1 would be easier to mess up if you're trying to optimize. For some jobs the 3 button adds gauge or enables other actions. Optimally you will pool those resources for a burst phase, but if you accidentally push 1 too many times you would overcap gauge or completely lose uses of higher potency actions. Having 1 2 3 helps me keep track of where I am in the rotation so that doesn't happen.

As a healer main with probably only several dozen hours playing a melee class (RPR), I can say that I routinely blow my 1-2-3 combo during mechanics or after burst / semi-burst stuff. 2 or 3 might be glowing, but I so often revert to just pressing 1 when my mind is otherwise distracted. So I'd say that 1-2-3 *is* an expression of skill and experience, b/c if it were just 1-1-1, then you couldn't ever screw up or blow the combo.

I dunno having played through viper ove come to see that jobs that have actual things happen based off the gcd its nice to have control over it. Gunbreaker is a perfect example of having the option to skip 3 as needed. Some conbos can but some just shouldnt. Viper an issue ive noticed is when noxious drops or you need to apply it to more targets, you cant simply start the combo over, you have to go through all 3 gcds before you can even

It's not just about "skill expression" though, it's also about job *feel.* I think having an option for 1-1-1 is fine, but I'm not going to pretend like it doesn't feel worse for many jobs if you just mash a single button. The reason why there's so much healer discourse and drama and nonsense going on all the time is because people are bored of 1-1-1-1-1 mashing gameplay. I think dragoon is fun *because* you had a different feeling 1-2-3-4-4 combo, that alternated between the two positionals. That gives it a unique feeling vs other jobs. I think overall, most jobs are in a good place, but over homogenization is already a complaint for so many jobs, especially tanks and healers. Making even more of them even more of the same by removing what combo buttons they do have doesn't help that, and i think would make a lot of them feel worse. Especially ones like samurai and monk, i have my hotbars set up in a way that intuitively makes sense and leads from one starter to one finisher and "feels good", putting them into a weird 1-1-1 or 2-2-2 or 3-3-3 just makes them feel worse and the same as other jobs. I think it makes sense on things like viper and picto because they were intentionally designed with job actions made so they could combo on one button, but for many other jobs i just don't think it makes sense. I think there are some for sure i wouldn't mind adding like machinist 1-2-3 or red mage melee combo, since you only ever use the full combo anyway, but so many other jobs have reason to have them as separate routes that would have to be overhauled and homogenized. Under the same logic, since black mages follow such a strict rotation in dawntrail now, why not just combine a bunch of their skills into one button? For aoe if you just blizz ii, freeze, fire ii, flare, flare, flare star, why have all those buttons? Why not just press 1 button for all those? Cuz it feels bad, that's why. Cuz sometimes having more buttons to press on the regular feels better to play and gives jobs flavor. If anyone here plays an instrument, what feels better to play and sounds better to hear, hitting the same note 15 times in a row, or playing a scale? People do overreact when people propose a 1-1-1 shift from 1-2-3 combos but don't pretend like there's no difference between them. They literally do feel different.

My personal belief: BRANCHING combos being different buttons makes some sense. WAR for example (2 finishers) or SAM (two 1-2/A-3/B combos AND a 1-4 also). But for combos THAT DO NOT BRANCH, they should just be 1 button in most cases. It's not like 1-2-3 is much harder than 1-1-1, and when that was invented was ARR when we had half the keybinds we do now and needed to fill out more slots. We don't need that anymore except for the Jobs that specifically have those branches as part of their core rotation and button layout.

As a controller player, I really wish they would put the 1,2,3's on one button. Anything to give me more space. It's not necessarily that I don't have enough button slots, but like how people on PC place their abilities in specific order depending on rotation, I like to put mine in as logical an order as possible. Having my main combo be on 1 button would really help free up space to let me do that more.

The 1,2,3 for all tanks should be left open for healing /expression. DK you get mana for rushing spenders using 1,2 on repeat. Gnb to heal over generating spenders. For pally you can reset attornment but also having royal and the third hit of attonment for FoF is higher damage then the last 2 of attonment.

Glad someone made a video about this. I have thought they would add action change to 123s since they announced it, and I know I wasn't the only one. Square, if you were waiting for player feedback, you got my approval to add it everywhere! As long as it's optional! Hell, add action change to the tutorial, it should be that ubiquitous.

I think this was meant as a setting for the 1-2-3 main combos and not for “secondary” or “burst” skills (although Viper is something else tbh) I just wish we would get offered the option.

For any combo actions that can be interrupted, I dislike the thought of consolidating the buttons. That takes a major skill factor out of playing the job. (Yes, I know it just involves remembering where you are in the combo...). Breaking a combo is a major DPS loss, and those who can properly manage their combos earn their place toward the top. Not every job needs to be braindead or super easy. Having some more difficult jobs alongside the easy ones gives a good balance of playstyles. I'm against the dumbing down of jobs.

I think dragoon is in much the same boat as Warrior but I still think something could be done, like adding a 2nd button that starts a different 1-2-3 combo deals less damage to give more buffs/debuffs/aoe Samurai could have all their different combos put into 3 a handful of buttons that do this Ninja could have their main 1-2-3 combo made into a single button and have their last skill still be separate, but activate at the same point in the combo I think RDM could have verfire and verearth fused with verthunder and veraero respectively verflare and verholy would be fused with those skills as well they could also be fused with the AoE versions as well there are so many this could get this treatment

I find it ok with Tanks. There are some cases where you would want do 1,2 combo like gunbreaker, can sustain himself spaming 1,2 and skipping 3. RDM there is no reason to not making a single button combo, and I also want SAM iajutsu to become tsubame gaeshi to reduce button bloat. Also some healers just spaming 1 is a bit tedious so a bit of combo mechanics would be nice.

At a minimum, Tank 1-2-3's & AOE 1-2's that have 0 decision making should be condensed without resorting to Dalamud. Continuation should just be the same button because again 0 decision making.

I like the idea of this, but I also like the idea of having a choice to do it or not to do it. One place I really think that combining abilities and Channing abilities and one or two buttons is for people with disabilities. I think it might also raise the floor For some players who just need a little bit of help.

when they say viper is too busy i think they mean there going to do this to dreadwinder/pit of dread skill line combo it'll be kinda like Gunbraker Gnashing fang and continuation combos to make it less odd finding button placement that make sense I'm a controller player i love viper but it mess with my button placement a bit having 2 skill lines that are 3 buttons broken out each then you cant even use 2 of the buttons till you use the starter so i think they will made it use the combo system like what you talk about in the vid if they do that itll make the job seem "less busy" with out making it Actually less busy viper keeps everything but some buttons get combo in a way that make sense everyone wins i hope they mean that i dont want viper to get gutted

I respect that some people like the feeling of pressing 1-2-3, so making these optional is the best course both for muscle memory and people who just like 1-2-3 But still, come on, we gotta have the option to condense it. For all the people who can't play certain jobs because there are just too many buttons to everyone else that just doesn't care for the combos

RGB makes sense, it makes white. CMY makes black. That's why LED lights use RGB & comic book dots use CMY. Just, the worst example to use for a thumbnail because it's irl color theory which ONLY makes sense, much like the theory of gravity

I recommend a Corsair mmo mouse! It saved me a lot of issues of not being able to hit a lot of my abilities comfortably. Even then though, they should collapse a lot of skills like you said with rdm and others, it’s optional so people shouldn’t make a fuss like they are lmao Also I like your viper glam!

I love my Logitech MMO mouse. It has a 3rd click button that I use as "Alt" from my keyboard so I have 24 button presses just on my right hand...but I don't think this is something that will work for everybody. The Logitech one is cheaper cost wise, but the build and being wired isn't as nice as a Corsair one but costs way more.

I use a Razer Naga, and for this expansion I switched my mouse's side buttons 1-6 (on a 3x4 1-12 Layout) into modifier keys so all my normally pressed buttons are on 1-6 and possibly a modifier key on my mouse, then my UI is made to make it obvious which button on my mouse I need. CTRL, SHIFT, and ALT combinations. Still have a 2 row 7 to = bar of which I only use 0 to = and only keeps those super situational buttons on it or things I probably more often manually click than use a hotkey for anyways. Think things like Sprint, LB, Ranged Attack for Melees, Esuna, Sleep, Summon Pet, Tank Stance, Dance Partner, etc. A lot of Touch and Forget or things that disrupt the flow quite a bit when needed anyways.

They defo said they would add this, but it only applied selectively. And so we still have jobs like samurai where half the good keys are spent on basic combos xD But they also said we would get an increase in housing item limit and chat bubbles. Except no we did not. Either they come in some later patches or DT will be a whole lot of half measures and empty promises.

Healers have nothing else to do when heals are not needed. Dps and tanks don't have that issue. Mch for example uses 123 only when all 600 - 700 potencies are on cooldown and there is no heat to spend. + managing battery on top. 123 happens relatively little. And bard is already spamming 1 and even the proc can be automated with the in game macro system. No one complains cuz challenge of bard is everything else besides that.

Do you think giving healers a 1,2,3 combo would solve the glarespam problem? The issue is that there is no decision making in your filler rotation beyond upkeeping a dot. Healers don't need a complex rotation, but they could stand to get something more to do than to fill the next GCD spell with the same mental operation. Do I need to GCD heal? No? Glare. Do I need to GCD heal now? No? Glare. Party took damage, weave oGCD heal. Glare. WHM does get a reduction in the amount of glares if you want to use your blood lily. But other than that, it's always Glare.

The thing with GNB has its niche use. The second part of the combo heals and gives a shield, so in a pure survival scenario it is better to just spam 1-2 over and over. Still I think having the option to put it into one button would be nice

It always gets me when people insist 1-2-3 is super high skill expression and SO MUCH BETTER than 1-1-1. I've messed up more 1-1-1s (e.g. accidentally broken PLD or GNB's burst combos) than I have messed up 1-2-3s. It's just some people trying to ego stroke themselves.

It's not 'super high skill expression', but it is undeniably 'more skill expression' than 1-1-1. Even if it's 0.0001% of the total pie chart of 'how you express skill', that's still 0.0001% more than the alternative. And with so much skill expression being removed over the years (to the point that Yoshi P himself says 'we may have gone too far'), it makes sense that people would cling to what little remains so much more desperately. You can see it with positionals too. Does missing a positional matter to anyone but the players going for the highest parses? No. You lose a minimal amount of potency, but can still clear just as easily. Doesn't affect your gameplay, doesn't break any combos, doesn't 'not apply the buff' like the old days, just 'oops lose 40p'. But some want them removed, because it 'feels bad' to miss positionals. It reminds me of the last area of the Dead Ends. People want to be free of the inconveniences that prevent them from performing well on jobs, but little do they realise how boring it'd be if every inconvenience was actually removed. It'd be 'stand and hit' simulator, and if I wanted to play that, I'd go play Classic WOW I've messed up hundreds of 1-2-3s on PLD during SHB, when Atonement combo would break your 1-2-3, because I'd autopilot and start with a new FastBlade. They changed it so that Atonement no longer breaks your 1-2-3. That helps players who were making my mistake, but didn't require consolidating the 1-2-3 to achieve. Anyone who wants to be free of 1-2-3, there's a system in the game that helps with that, called the 'armory system'. It lets you swap to a job that doesn't have any 1-2-3s to worry about, such as a healer, SMN, or the new PCT/VPR

I've messed up the 1-1-1-1 rotations more often than the 1-2-3s. 1-2-3 CAN be more skill expression if there are branching combos like SAM or WAR or NIN, or that thing MNK does. But general 1-2-3s are no more skill expression than 1-1-1s are. Sometimes, they're actually less. If PLD had three 1-1-1 combos (Royal, Confeitor, Atonement), that'd be more skill expression than having a 1-2-3 combo any day of the week. Also, which of healer, SMN, PCT, or VPR are Tank Jobs?

The double standards are sickening. @@OneTallBloke Well, two points there: 1) People can say whatever they want. My own personal view is each role should have a mix of things. For example, I've advocated for one of the healers to have a DPS rotation like SCH or SGE to accommodate people that want that. 2) It's not the same thing anyway. A 1-1-1 rotation vs a 1-2-3 rotation isn't a "Tank" thing. So the idea of "Go play a non-Tank if you don't like the Tank Jobs all having...something that has nothing to do with Tanking". That'd be a valid rebuttal of someone was saying "I want to play a Tank but I don't want to manage defensive CDs or hold the boss agro or do Tank swaps". It'd be fair to point out "Well, you don't really want to play a Tank, then, since you don't want to do any of the Tank things". But a 1-2-3 rotation is not a "tank things". Hell, PLD's rotation used to be to spam Flash when I first picked up the Job. ...if you're playing a Healer and wanting a DPS rotation, it DOES make some sense to suggestion you might be happier playing a DPS Job. But this is the opposite of that. This is people saying they DON'T want a DPS rotation on a Tank, and you saying "so go play a DPS Job then", when the thing they're trying to avoid...is a DPS rotation (or at least a 1-2-3 combo system one). So it's not only not the same thing, it's the opposite of the same thing. . But, again, that said, I personally think they should have a Healer with a DPS rotation. So I'm not the person you can use that rebuttal against. BUT, even if I was, I'm pointing out it's not the same thing (applies to oranges) and so doesn't apply.

"Player skill expression" is a buzz word invented by hardcore gatekeeper that are mad that now more people can get into hardcore content and they dont feel as special anymore. DPS never had any player expression. They always had rigid rotation with an optimal way to execute and your "expression" would make it less optimal. The only roles that have a scintilla of player expression are tanks and healers. And thats only because they acually have choice of what heals or mit they use. Thats it. "Skill expression" is a nothing burger. It just means "Im mad people are as good as i am at my job because they sinplified it".

Please no, I don't want all classes to remove combos. It does make a difference having different combo skills on different buttons. I see it for some classes but please don't advocate for every class losing their combos on different buttons. And no Cole it doesn't make the game elden ring levels of difficult, but it does change the difficulty from a 1/10 to a 2/10. The difficulty levels are not important, what is important in the amount of focus you use when playing the job, and having combos on different buttons does help make the job more involved. If you don't believe me, go hit a dummy with 1,1,1,1,1,1,1 and then 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 and notice that you are paying more attention to the game in the second version. Not all classes need that but that does make a difference in terms of feel from machinist to bard for example.

You don’t need to use the button replacement in most situations. Also, controller players shouldn’t have to struggle for your desire to 1-2-3. Also, if you have your rotation memorized, 1-1-1 feels no different than 1-2-3.

Agreed. Hopefully they do enable combos for those basic combos. Hopefully they don’t listen to the loud players that cry “OMG IT MAKE THE GAME FOR NON-THINKERS IF U MAKE COMBO.” They might struggle when thinking about branching combos like Dragoon where both of their main combos start with the same move. It could still be done, though. Just two buttons (button one starts both combos and you only use button two when it’s time for combo two)

Some issues come in with job flavor and animations, basically all of them would need to be remade from the ground up. Those issues aside, if they made good use of the newly vacated bar space, it has the potential to be a good change. If I were in the devs' shoes, I'd probably never consider this idea tbh. It's too fundamental of a shift towards an action mmo, best reserved for its own game. As a player, though, it sounds somewhat interesting.

no, not for normal gcds but this would be nice for all those "this action shares cooldown with xyz" oGCDs like war upheaval and aoe upheaval. sam also has a shared st and a line aoe iirc? just add the aoe part with a trait later on if needed.

there's already a plugin that does this exact thing, which you can make yourself. se just needs to implement that into the game and allow people to make whatever combo sequences they want. cuz yeah it doesn't make sense to have three separate abilities that are completely useless when they aren't used in the correct order. there are exceptions to this of course, but for most jobs it's just 1-2-3 90% of the time. you can't tell me this is skilled game play lmao

Most jobs, if you are 1-2-3ing 90% of the time you're playing horrendously incorrectly. The 1-2-3 is meant to be 'filler', eg it 'fills' the downtime between your big attacks. The question then is, 'what is it about the job's design that leads to you using your 'filler' so much'? In the case of something like DRK, you blow all your CDs in the 2min window and are then left with 1-2-3 on loop until the next minute window. This isn't an issue with the 1-2-3, it's a symptom of the actual issue, that every job is now locked to the 2min meta, and outside of that 2min has very little else it can do (because everything else is on CD)

Originally when I heard about the combo changes coming into DT. I thought it would change all jobs 1 2 3 into 1 button by default and parody pvp jobs in a way. The lack of consistency throughout all the jobs with the combo changes seems odd. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that it was lack of developer time dedicated to it, but who really knows. The only real thing that can be done is bring it up to the developers and talk about what players in general would like to see.
