As you've stated in the video the Bosman Ruling completely destroyed my favorite club: Ajax Amsterdam. The year the Bosman ruling came through (1995) Ajax was the best club in the world, but nearly all of the players in that squad left the club for free in the years after that succes. It was heartbreaking to watch as a fan. The best club in the world was being gutted. It wasn't until a couple of years ago (so more than 30 years later) that Ajax had any significance in Europe again but such a thing can only happen once every so often, because after every season the best players are being bought by the richer clubs and Ajax has to start building a new team with "lesser" players of which they hope to become the next super players that can be sold. The record is now about 50/50, but the 50% that is being sold do make an overal profit over the once that don't. So for Ajax to become the best team in the world again requires a lot of luck and even then all the best players will be bought by other clubs which have much more money to spend anyway. So knowing this inevitable cycle, Ajax now tries to at least "bother" the richest clubs in Europe and tries to be the best of the rest and that will be the best case scenario, because the broadcasting rights for the Dutch league will never come close to that of bigger countries. At the moment any Premier League club gets €98 mil per season of broadcasting rights money. Ajax gets €9.3 mil... As long as this gap remains in place Ajax will never be a global superpower again and as you state in your video: neither will any other club that's not in the top 5 leagues of Europe. Looking at it through that lens Ajax is currently doing alright, but a global superpower? Never going to happen in the current setup. Edit: Typo's and more background info.

I knew about the Bosman ruling beforehand through a few other videos but you are the first one to actually place some focus on Bosman himself and how his life fell apart because of a ruling that made players' lives better. I just wish something can be done about his situation now.

This ruling definitely changed the context in which great players are determined. Back in the day, there were no super teams, as teams that were rich couldn’t have more than a few foreigners. Imagine Cruyff, Maradona, Hugo Sánchez, Romario (in his prime), Baggio (in his prime) playing on today’s rich teams… or the opposite, Messi, Cristiano, Neymar… playing back in those times where they couldn’t have been surrounded by $800,000 on the pitch. This ruling, I believe, also changed the game as teams have to focus on defending with more players and destroying these powerful team’s offense than actually going toe to toe, and make the game pretty boring. It became an unfair and predictable, game, we always see the same champions in every league, Madrid, Barça, Bayern, Juventus, PSG. And the worst part… as teams might have gotten a larger worldwide audience, I believe they also lost their local identity. Another thing, the crazy wages left other continents without a chance to hold their talents. Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay can’t keep the talent in their land for long, as players want to run to the old continent to get that big paycheck… regardless of losing their football mystic… it’s been a longtime since Brasil displayed Jogo Bonito as they seem to play the European way now… no wonder they haven’t been in a world final since 1998. In the start of this rulling Some teams took a lot advantage that these players were free out of no where. That is why a small club like Lierse became champion in Belgium in 1997.(ofc this wasn’t the only reason) Now the big clubs get a lot of advantage because the players started to understand the wages

In Allsvenskan (Swedish top division) at least half of the players in the match squad must be "home fostered". Meaning that the player has been registered at a swedish club during at least 3 years between they were 12 and 21 years old. So maximum 9 "foreign" players in a match squad. No limitation for foreign players in the general squad though, nor in the starting eleven. So i was surprised to hear about the EU rule of unlimited foreign players :)

For me the only nice thing about the rule is the globalization and that teams can have unlimited foreign players. In the other hand it has really destroyed the beauty of the game. Created by the poor,Stollen by the rich
