BEARDS 'n CARS

Күн бұрын

The Fiat Panda 100HP is genuinely one of my favourite cars, and has been on my bucket list to review since day one of the Beards n Cars series, so let's find out if this bargain hot hatch lives up to my hopes for it, and its reputation for being one of the most fun driving experiences around for the money and horsepower...

First car was a 1.1 panda, after 10 years and 94k it had engine problems while doing the emissions test for it's MOT so I limped it home, pulled the engine and am working on getting an abarth t-jet in it. Loads of people have done this with the 100hp one but it will be funny to have a 180hp panda sleeper. Would love a 100hp one too, just like second gen pandas so much with how simple, light and fun they are. I'm a Ford tech and hate all the multi module rubbish and faults due to new technology, expensive parts and bad engineering in modern cars but the panda seems to hit the sweet spot of simplicity, availability and fun.

I've just bought myself a 41k mile 2006 1.1 panda as well. Was the issue on yours the headgasket? And if so, how difficult was it to replace?

Nah headgasket is generally fine on them, the engines are so understressed they just go on and on and on. With mine the radiator sprung a leak and the fan had seized, replaced that then when bleeding it all the metal coolant pipe that runs under the exhaust manifold had rusted to a point where there was a pinhole leak that got bigger, all the bolts were rusty AF and didn't fancy throwing even more parts and time at it when the timing belt was overdue (non interference so nbd). Whole time I had the car it didn't need much even if I missed a service, a crank position sensor at about 5 years and an evap valve at about 12 years. Enjoy your gutless little runabout!

@@cwj138 thanks for the info. I was looking at a 1L Corsa before buying this as my first car, that had for lack of a better word a bunch of mayonnaise under the oil cap and around the rockers even though it was very low mileage, and I was told by a mechanic friend whose done a headgasket on them that they are really thin so I've been a little worried about headgaskets ever since because of that. Great to hear that the engine isn't difficult to maintain either. My green 2006 panda has less than 41k miles and looks like it's been taken care of so I'm hoping to take it over 100k before even considering scrapping it.

Corsas do that, they make a lot of mayonnaise (but will keep going quite happily) and always need timing chains, normally you can hear it before they go completely. Would say you made the better choice but it's a very biased opinion. Pandas rule.

Watching this one year after. Very nice review. Can someone tell me how is it in long trips? I’m quite interested because this is the only car of this kind which has 6th gear! Thanks a lot.

Enjoyed your video, from an owner it was very factual. Not sure why people go with Abarth stickers but it's up to them, on the headrests was a bit much.
